Hey all! 👋Just correcting a few of the points from this review, now that it's been a little longer: 🎮Number of profiles is limited to 30. 🪫Battery in the controller actually appears to be smaller than the regular Dualsense in order to make space for the additional feature. However, it is more efficient, which is why the shorter battery life isn't as large as the size of the batteries would suggest. Again, keep an eye out on my channel and TikTok as I will have a battery comparison up soon. :) 📏For those interested, the braied USB-C cable is 2.8m in length; apologies for not mentioning this! I hope you all enjoyed the review and found it of use; it is one of the best controllers I have ever used. Happy launch day! 🥳
Really great review! I liked how you put the features into context of how you use them in a game. Pre ordered it after watching this review

First pro controller was a scuf pro for PS4. Didn't appreciate. Better yet, did t want to take the time to get better with it. Now with games having more button inputs and whatnot, I find the learning curve much more enjoyable as I can experiment with different configs and I love how you can set deadzones. I'm legit a better online shooter player now. Like considerably. I love the purchase, even though I honestly thought about returning it .
How is the Dpad for fighting games etc. Does it feel more mechanical and premium or just a different colour?

Very good controller, already clocked a few hours now, great design and feel with a bit more heft in the hands, better haptics, very good software customization to go with the controller, the half domes are incredible and my fingers just rest perfectly on them (the paddles are pretty good too.) Solid all rounder but the one con is the battery life, with that said don't regret picking up the DS Edge!

Same user here, the edge is a perfect controller for me., the battery life though is short, but I dont care as it came with a premium usb cable for wired usage .. In the Philippines, it cost Php 12000, 3x the price of regular dual sense that cost around Php 4000., but I dont mind as I am experiencing the quality of what I paid for.🤗

Stoked for mine, but damn about having to use a wired headset. Was looking forward to adjusting my pulse headset without letting go of the controller.
@Octorious
Жыл бұрын
yeah this disappointed me too :( I don't see why it couldn't be changed in a future software update, especially for the Pulse. It isn't like there is any indication on the headset of the value of the volume or balance like there is with the mute button which is why that doesn't work on the controller, but I'm hopefully Sony will see this feedback and aim to change it in the future. :)
What I find annoying is that some of these software settings could easily be adapted to be used for the standard dual sense controller.

This! So annoyingly true.

I feel like there might be SOME decent reasoning for it, but I've honestly got no idea. The settings do save to the controller rather than just the software, so maybe the regular Dualsense controllers lack that capability on the main board? Not quite sure but it is what it is! I ordered one yesterday, and I almost went with the Scuf because I've had great luck with them, and the customization options. But the edge seemed like a better bet because you don't need a PC to update it, and the replaceable stick modules. We shall see if it's really worth it.
I like a lot of these controllers features it’s the little innovations that make me feel like this is a great controller such as being able to replace the sticks and the velcro bit on the carrying case. I also love the design however, whilst when new the glossy finish looks great as you said it will just attract fingerprints. And I wish they upgraded the battery. Yes, that would be awesome! I remember a patent for this leaking before the PS5 and it's controller were ever unveiled so it was assumed this would be the regular controller. Sucks that it isn't, but maybe by the time the PS6 rolls around!
With this DualSense edge controller would it be okay to leave it connected wired that comes with the package to the console 24 hours?
@Octorious

Do you mean so you can reduce latency? If so, yes.
If the back buttons have to be mapped on the ps5 will they work on pc then? Will the controller "remember" it so you can use it on pc? Or is it the program on the ps5 that will "remember" it everytime you play?
@Octorious
Жыл бұрын
I believe there will be drivers/software released for PC that allow you to map them just with the PC. At the moment though, that doesn't exist and I haven't been able to test it, though I believe this is how that will work, and will presumably be possible in the next few days.

@@yofolkdem1256 if you look at this video, then it looks like the profiles are stored on the ps5 and not the controller. Just hope i am wrong about that, but it shure look slike it is stored on the ps5. or else the creator of this video would not have responded to another commenter that he blelieves that sony will realease driovers or software later for pc to remap the buttons for pc. So dont make unaducated gueses. the video shows us it clearly stores the back button setting on the ps5 and not he controller. Sony has to release new software or drivers for pc. And i know this is a fact, because DualSense isn't recognized through XInput because it's not an XInput compatible game controller. The only way a dualsense controller works on pc is through an input mapper like rewasd ds4windows and steaminput. And all of these do not recognise the back buttons as separate controller buttons. back buttons can only be mapped to existing other controller buttons. That is also why you can map the back buttons on pc for a fnction that is not already done by anohter button on the controller.
It'll be probably be possible to get a better battery but i mean I'd stick to the cable anyway. I'ma have to just order me one
I really wanna get one and hopefully I will be able to soon, but why PS didnt update the battery on this controller is beyond me 🤷♂️
@Octorious
Жыл бұрын
If you have a look at the internals, it makes sense. There is hardly any room left in that thing, nevermind room for a larger battery. For me, like I mentioned in the video, the battery life is plentiful for my use. I'm getting around 7 hours in haptic and trigger intensive games so disable those and I reckon 9-10 hours.
Can I get this from GameStop Best Buy Amazon ext…? Is only from PlayStation website?
@Octorious
Жыл бұрын
As of now it is the PS Direct site only but it will be coming to other retailers in February. The reasoning is purely because only having it on PS Direct is a great counter to scalpers, and ensures those who want one day 1/during launch window are able to get one with ease.
I got the controller on release date and have no regrets, I’m glad they kept the same form as the Dualsense because why change perfection.

What is the impression of using shorter triggers when shooting? The reviews complain that it could be shorter. What are your feelings?
@Octorious
Жыл бұрын
For me, I love having the ability to actually switch between full trigger length or it being shorter. If you compare it to something like a Scuf though, Scuf's instant triggers are fully digital, so like a mouse click. The Edge just reduces the input range by about 2 thirds I'd guess, which is awesome and better than most controllers but in comparison to fully digital triggers, it isn't as fast. Still very good though! I hope you enjoyed the review :)

Makes sense! I do like that most 3rd party pro controller manufacturers give this as an option as well. Personally, I'll always keep them in my PS5 controllers. I didn't care for having them in the PS4 controllers, but the haptics in the PS5 controllers are worth it for me; huge leap.
Love this controller, pick it up on launch day, been using it ever since, love playing MW2 while having the back buttons programmed for reload and jump, make this a must have on any FPS games. The remapping the dead zone sensitivity make this controller even better for my own liking!
Wish it had 4 paddles, only reason I considered the scuff

The volume button does not work with ps5 wireless headset either ?
@Octorious
Жыл бұрын
Nope :( It works if you wire it in, but using it wirelessly always leads to the same "Can't Control Audio Right Now" message which shocked me a lot considering it's Sony's own. I understand the mute button not working due to the headset's button being physical with an indicator if the mic status but vol and sound balance don't have anything like that at all. It is definitely possible for this to work, so I'm just hoping there's some weird issue preventing it at the moment which they are able to eliminate with a software update. :) Thank you for watching!

@caleasthetic
Жыл бұрын
what is not durable about a scuff that is already not durable on a regular dualsense? Scuff controller are not 3rd party controllers. scuff only modifies some components and adds some. The stick drift is also not the fault of scuff. because scuff does not change the stick modules or the potentiometers, wich cause the drift. So even if your only mentioned that they take to long to fixe the drift, and you did not say anything about it being scuffs fault istill put ot in my comment just to let you know why your sticks can develop drift. Potentiometers have moving resistors that rub against each other. This then measures the current and determines the position of the stick Sony should have used hall effect sensors for this new controller. Hall effect sensors use magnets (no moving parts that can break or wear down). So hall effect sensors can not drift that easily (not saying they can never develop drift) but they are alot more resistent to it. I hope gulikit comes out with replacable hall effect stick modules for the new edge.

The better solution would have been to use hall effect sensors to combat drift. Sony are just cheapskates. Hall effect sensors are only a few cent more expensive then potentiometers. Lukily whe have gulikit that are going to realse replacable thumstick modules with hall effect sennsors. Only problem is it can take a whiel for them to make these.
@Octorious
Жыл бұрын
I can definitely understand that view, and agree it would have been interesting to see hall effect sensors used. However, from my understanding, hall effect sensors only work at a set, constant voltage right, which is also much higher than the potentiometers used? They've already had to reduce the battery size to fit everything else in the controller, so using hall effect sensors would lead to an even higher power draw and I suppose they deemed that a risk they didn't want, knowing battery life would already be considered as "poor" by many. They have a set budget for these things and need to try to turn a profit, so it does make sense, and like you say, 3rd parties will create other stick modules anyway! :)

@@Octorious maybe your right on the voltage part, but the cost of hall effect sensors is not that high. i know of two companies that solely rely on the sale of their controller for the most part of their profit. and their controller only cost 60 dollars, and the other cost 70 dollars. Both also have gyro sensors and accelrerometers. Gulikit only has one controller and a few hall effect replacement kits. Most of their profit come from the sale of the king kong pro 2 controller (60 dollars). so even at that price it is cost effective. Sony is just greedy. they could use hall effect sensors on their normal Dualsense controller, but they also don''t use them. Microsoft has the cheapest controller to produce because it lacks all of the other bells and whistles and even they are to cheap to add it.
Unbiased review??? You probably play twice a year if you don't have stick drift, Sony controllers fail after just 2 months of use, so that's the reason Sony do replacement sticks . Instead of moving to magnetic one, which is actually game changer
@Octorious
Жыл бұрын
I play quite a lot but I do have several controllers so switch between quite a bit. I also don't push the sticks aggressively like I know many who suffer with stick drift too. This review is unbiased and I did mention some issues I have with the controller myself, as well as some things I'd have rather seen. There is more to the choice of using potentiometers than just money too. Hall effect sensors require a constant voltage supplied to them, which is higher than the variable voltage that potentiometers used, and would therefore kill the controller much, much, much quicker. With the battery already needing to be reduced in order to fit whilst still keeping all the other parts in the same shell, Sony couldn't then use a bigger battery to counter this without making more sacrifices elsewhere in the control. They had to make compromises and this is the direction they took it. There's more to it than just "oh they could have used this technology instead and everything else be the same".

Way too expensive. The Microsoft elite series 2 way better and $90 cheaper if you have an Xbox. I’m sticking with the PS5 dual sense as $339 is ridiculous for a controller. I wouldn’t pay more than $180 for it.

I can't comment as I haven't had it long enough. Theoretically, it is capable of developing stick drift, but we don't know how often or soon this will occur. I've not had any issue with any PS5 controllers yet though, and like you've noticed from the video, it is very easy to replace anyway. I'm not sure, but if drift develops within a certain span after purchase, it wouldn't surprise me if Sony would supply the new module right to you. That's just my brain going off on one though, I have no real idea regarding that! With how this controller feels, I don't see trigger hinges breaking, and I don't see the pads tearing either. So you shouldn't have to worry about that, that's more an issue with Scufs from my personal experience.
The sound from RB or LB shouldn’t happen my LB was silent on short and RB sounded horrendous PlayStation support said it was a fault unit returned clearly highlighted this in video to prevent complaints to Sony for poor build. Wouldn’t trust reviews where the unit has been gifted he won’t give this a bad review blacklists reviewers from further products.
the absolute unmitigated nerve of these literal greedbags to come out with a TWO HUNDRED DOLLAR controller after having YEARS of controllers with stick drift AND NEVER fixing it. Literally a class action lawsuit against them and yet here we are.

I didn't even realise this when making the review, but there kind of are grips! The inner part of the controller on the back, beyond the black glossy cut, is made of a grippier material than the rest and with that being where your fingers naturally lay, is pretty good! I haven't replied to everyone on this video yet, but I'll get to it.
