This video shows the repair of a PS4 Pro with an NVG-002 revision motherboard where someone has managed to rip the connector away from the motherboard, lifting all the connection points as they did so. This particular machine was stood on which may have been responsible for some of the damage. Here we replace the connector concerned, rebuild the circuit and get this console fit to fight another day.

    Fantastic to hear! That's the same age as when I started out - a basic Antex iron, soldering tools and an old VCR remote control circuit board... That thing was covered in wires, and all those little ICs had been soldered and desoldered all manner of times in the end ha ha! Good luck and if I can be of any assistance just ask.

    Hi Kenneth, Many thanks for your message. Interestingly I've had a few messages like this recently - up to now I've tried to maintain things as a knowledge base-type resource rather than flooding videos of the same things, however I'm sure we could re-work things to encompass the two if the call was there for it. Many people who follow my channel will know Louis Rossmann (love the guy myself - if you've not seen his stuff I'd highly recommend!) and there may be a scope to do something similar, i.e. maintain the current playlists to catalogue the various tutorials / How-to's / unique individual problems which you commonly face, like renaming them to something like "PS4 Knowledgebase playlist" (along with one for XBOX, Mac etc as they are now) and then just upload all the repairs that go up regardless for entertainment purposes if that's something which people would want. That way businesses / individuals who use my content for knowledge / troubleshooting etc can still quickly and easily access what they need, and people like yourself who just want to see more content can get your wishes too... Needs a poll I think :)

    Hey Andrew, I've been watching your videos for a couple years now and I've started a little side repair business myself and I was just curious how you deal with problems you can't solve as a general rule? In instances where you've tried everything you can think of or can't figure out what it is that's going on how do you motivate yourself to continue with the system and not just give up and move on?

  • @AndrewPaul

    @AndrewPaul

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Marck, Many thanks for your comment and congratulations on starting your business - I hope it goes on to great things for you. Like you say, we all get those curve ball issues which leave you scratching your head. It's something I really struggled to deal with when I started out (as a 15 year old kid messing with electronics as a hobby) and to be honest it's only something I've learned to overcome this last couple of years. I hate 'being beaten' by something and used to see it as something which was a slight on myself and what I did and my abilities. The key for me is to remember that as much as you might try, you can't fix everything - we're only human. That's made even harder with things like consoles as we don't have access to any technical documentation / schematics / board views / vendor tools and software etc, and often the vital parts which make the machines tick aren't publicly available meaning we're fishing from scrap donors and pulled ICs from AliExpress. The other thing is to remember that as a business your time is money. It's very easy to be tempted to just try this little bit here, little bit there and before you know it you've spent 5 or 6 hours with no result - and that's even harder to absorb if you're working to a no-fix, no-fee model when there are other machines you need to be working on - both in terms of time and money. To be honest if I had one that was really pushing my buttons and I couldn't snag it, the best thing is to ask the customer what they want to do, but explain it's not a straight-forwards issue and may take a good degree of time (if it's possible at all). If they're happy for you to keep it and continue troubleshooting, put it aside and maybe go back when you have a lull or some free time when you're bored - that way you're not giving up but you're also not letting it take time and money away from your business when you've more pressing matters you need to attend to. In the meantime if the customer wants it back then you can hand it back in the knowledge you've done all you realistically can. If you beat it, bonus! It's also weird how often that break away from the machine in question will let your mind reset and you'll go back a few days later and maybe spot something you missed last time, or that you'd previously gone so far down a road chasing one particular problem or symptom that you'd not thought of another angle which then turns up a positive result - often pretty quickly. The latter is often termed 'the rabbit hole to hell' - where you chase a problem so far for so long for no end benefit. It's only when you start looking at these things objectively that you can overcome this issue - it took me a very long time to get this but eventually I got to the point where it happened often enough where I'd be annoyed with myself that I'd let it happen again, especially when my time was tight and I'd have nothing to show for it that I finally came to terms with the above. Good luck and importantly don't be afraid to ask for help (I'm always here and there are some great console repair groups on Facebook with like-minded tech's who are always happy to assist with ideas / suggestions if you've an issue you're struggling with) which might give you a different angle with which to attack your problem from and possibly find the answer. There might even be a video to be made on this topic somewhere. :) Cheers and hope this helps, Andy.

    @@AndrewPaul Thanks for such a great reply, man. I think there are few moments more satisfying than seeing those logos pop up on the screen after doing a job well done. I worked in a repair shop a little over a year ago and had a PS4 slim with a disk drive issue that rendered it useless because it wouldn't update. I had researched and researched and I was about ready to give up and even the owner was encouraging me to move on (terrible person, charged $35 bench fees to look at things and then didn't actually fix them half the time) and I finally found your video on the F6202 fuse and was able to finally get the console fixed, and the look on the kid's face when we handed it back to him was priceless. Just a few weeks ago I had a "No Video" Xbox One X that had gone through a power surge (lightning) and both the IC and HDMI port were good, and the only reason I was able to fix it was because I was able to recall back to a video where you checked the coils behind the HDMI port and sure enough, both of the coils on my system were shorted to ground. There aren't many KZreadrs on here (specifically for consoles) that break down everything point by point and explains everything at the level you do, and your videos specifically have helped me think outside my own scope of thought and fix things I would not have been able to fix myself. We all really appreciate you and your videos and I really hope you keep them up. Thanks again for the great reply. :)

Feed it through the small holes in the ground plane in front the of connector on the edge of the board and it'll come out conveniently placed - just run the wire across to where it needs to be as per the video and solder it into position. Getting hold of them isn't easy. Depending on the damage, you can potentially replace the connector with a right-angled JST connector (they typically come with matching plugs) or even do a modification using a horizontally placed PS4 slim connector which are much more substantial (this will be the next how-to video on the channel).

    Indeed it could well be - if those games push the hardware harder for a longer period than other titles do then it could be enough to push it over the edge so to speak if those Tokin's are now starting to fail. I've got a video coming up on this issue and repairing it very soon. :)

    I've seen some videos of "MyMateVince" replacing the Tokin's with tantalum capacitors and it worked. It would be very interesting to see a video on this repair, I may attempt it myself, if not I may send it to you for repair?

    This is the problem on all PS4 Pro consoles, I don`t know how is it on the original and slim model. I myself ripped the connector when I tried to open PS4 Pro to clean it. For me this is embarrassing, this connector is poorly made. I remember opening PS3 Slim, that console was built like tank comparing to this.

    I buyed with 80$ a PS4 with SU-30645-8 error because the seller can't update ,it starts only in Safe Mode, i download from PSN the full firmware and tried with usb exacly ...root PS4...UPDATE ...PS4UPDATE.PUP , cleaned from dust , change the thermal paste, formatt the HDD, initialized, rebuild data base, but the same error asking the 7.02 firmware or later. I read on the internet that someone have this problem and find a Ram module broken. You have this problem until now with one of the broken ps4 ?

    If it rips up the vias then you'll need to manually run link wires through to the other side of the board. Next time I have one in I'll get it on video as this is something which has been asked on several occasions before. It's definitely salvageable though so don't worry!

    @@AndrewPaul I think my ps4 pro is a good candidate for that. The connector came off and everything is gone on 3 and 4. I tried to solder it from the back using the enamel wires you recommend and it work for a good 20 to 30 second and it turned off. So i just left it and it's still sitting here in my living room collecting dust. I don't know how to send it to you so you can fix for me.
