PS3 YLOD Fixed with an Original Nec/Tokin Capacitor By:NSC

Ойындар

Hi all ;) READ FIRST PLS!
On this video i just did a quick test to see if the original Nec/Tokin Capacitor is really damaged or not.
Replacing the Nec/Tokin Capacitor is faster done as to replace them with some Tantal ones, so thats why i just did this quick test with a Original working Nec/Tokin Capacitor.
After that you can test if your PS3 is working again or not, if yes, you can go on now for the Tantal Capacitors, if you like, if not, you can let it also like this, it will work again for some years, thats why keep always your brocken PS3 stuff ^^
Check this Tut. for more Info about replacing Tantal Capacitors:

Greetings NSC, I'm an admirer of your great work. Gotta say awesome German engineering applies not only to cars but console repair as well. I have a CECHA07 60G (TW region) which has only recently started the symptom of unexpectedly turning itself off during heavy 3D game scenes, with 3 beeps and ensuing blinking red light. Before I noticed this problem just this month, I have not had powered it on for say at least 6 months, so it obviously has little to do with constant overheating. I have replaced the thermal paste (which didn't help much, still idling at 68c) and will do the PC ATX PSU test to rule out that possibility, as well as the syscon uart reader thing to get the error log and see what kind of codes are buried in it. My hunch is that most likely the NEC Tokin on the RSX rail has degraded over time, and thanks to your wonderful video tutorial, I'll know how to approach it when I finally reach that stage. Thanks again.

Hdd led lights up for a sec, it actually looks like it try to boot for 3 sec than YLOD, Do you think its worth trying to replace the nec tokin? Hi I see that you use the spreading method for thermal compound application but I just wanted to verify something. I read on a few online forums that the pea method works best. Which method do you recommend? I own a super slim model I'm just a little scared that I may apply too much compound and that it will flow over the edges of the chip onto the motherboard since the chips are smaller than the fat ps3 model. Anyways, thanks for your great and informative video! Still good to see people caring about ps3 in 2020.

Hello To much is still better then to little, the pea method is not enough to cover all the IHS, that's why i do it like i do. I saw a lot CPU's that was not full covered with paste because they used the pea method. That's why i do i like that, and i do it since a lot years now, never had problems. To be sure that everywhere is paste, i spread a little all over the IHS, and to be 10000% sure i apply a little small line or a small pea over the rest.

Hi. Great video. How did you know it was that particular capacitor, and not one of the others? I've had my PS3 60GB for a long time, and it got the YLOD about 3-4 years ago. I took it to a repair shop, and it may have been reflowed by them (I'm not sure). But, about a month or two after being "repaired" it YLOD'd again. When I tried the system again a couple of weeks ago (I want to play some of the old PS2/PS3 games), the system powers on (Green light)...then the fan gradually increases in speed to maximum speed. The system displays a messaging saying it is too hot, and shuts down. Following yours and other guides, I have opened up the system and noticed that the RSX had been de-lid'd previously. So I cleaned the chips and IHS's and applied MX-4 thermal paste. But unfortunately the fans still go high and then the system powers off. Do you have an tips or suggestions of what to try next? Many Thanks.

Hi, great videos, learnt a lot. Do you follow some sort of process of elimination methodology when deciding which Nec/Tokin is causing an issue? For example is there a guide to check the voltages of the individual Nec/Tokin and what figures to look for to determine which one is/could be faulty and require replacement using a multimeter? Before having to dismantle/solder and de-solder anything? I have a PS3 with YLOD, before spending any money I wanted to verify if it is in fact the Nec/Tokin causing the issue and not something else, so I isolated the Nec/Tokins with Kapton tape and heated 4 x Nec/Tokins and the PS3 powers on now. So I believe it in fact to be the Nec/Tokins being faulty. Is it recommended to replace all the Nec/Tokins? Should you replacement them one by one? Thanks.

Need help Regarding Fat PAL PS3 60GB model, So I have a Problem I hadn’t used my PS3 fat in 3 months but today I booted it up(meanwhile this darn AC was turned on in the same room in the background) and was playing for 1 hour and a half and turned it off for about 10 minutes before turning it back on 3 seconds into the boot up screen and I turned off my AC At this Exact moment my Ps3 shutdown for some reason and I panicked and it started doing this exact red light of death and won’t turn on anymore come to think of it in the past also it would randomly shut off between gameplay 2 or three times making a red light but then it would turn on fine so I didn't pay much attention to it. So I’m guessing this might be a power supply issue or capacitor issue🤔if not then I’ll be really depressed. “Retro” games and old games are really rare in my country and eBay died 2 years ago here so There really is no one trustworthy enough here to be handed this old console.I found this PS3 Fat a year ago on my local craigslist by a stroke of luck! And bought it for $130. It’s always really dusty inside(and it was at the time of purchase too) although I had CFW installed on it So I turned up the fan speed so the temps don’t go higher than 61C. I hope my PS3 isn’t dead. 💀

Just replace the 2 on the top from the RSX and then it should work fine again, or just try one and test it if it's better or not.
