What would make more of a difference than thermal pad replacement is a IHS removal and replacing the paste on the processors. We did a video on this recently. While you’re in there you should also replace the pads as they usually have a life of about 5-10 years depending on the use.

could be a damaged RSX/GPU, the original 90nm RSX doesn't have infill on the chip causing the connection to break over time, recently it was discovered that the 65nm RSX from later fats and the 40nm RSX from slims will work as a reliable replacement for systems with the 90nm RSX because these chips have infill. very few repair shops will do this as it is a very difficult job. lookup the Frankenstein mod if you are interested.

Although I always delid the processors so heat issues are always solved. The NEC tokins go bad very easily, and when I replace them I usually find burned ones during the process of removal.

I think it gets a little blip of some random visual pixels/static every few seconds. I am suspecting I need to replace the thermal paste. It hasn't been used in a few years but I do remember back in 2018 or so it did sound like a jet engine. Hopefully it's not dead completely. This is the first time I've had an issue. Sounds like your RSX is fried my friend. I had a fat model do the same. The fan went into jet mode for about a week, started displaying green lines on the screen and then started doing exactly what you described. Only way to repair it is with a QUALITY heatgun and a pre-balled RSX from ebay. don't even bother with the ones you have to ball yourself, its nearly impossible unless you own a repair lab and every tool imaginable. This is not for the faint of heart though. I am in the IT field and work with PC hardware on a daily basis and I failed RSX replacement twice before finally getting it on the third time. Also, check your HDMI port and make sure you don't have any bent connectors. Check the HDMI cable you used with it or try another or see if you can get your hands on a pair of the Sony cables to check the component output. Lastly, you can search up how to put it into restore mode by holding the power button down and see if it will allow you to factory reset it. if you attempt a restore, make sure you have a WIRED controller that is a LEGIT sony brand controller. Most of the aftermarkets wont work for PS2 gameplay or in restore mode. I will attempt more in the future as long as it is not a BC model. I don't wanna be the guy responsible for goofing up another backwards compatible console. I have a bricked motherboard from a launch model and sometimes late at night when the kids are asleep, I will pull it out and look it over a bit while I cry inside like a big manchild.

Most of the improvements are psychological though, since the infrastructure wasn't built with SSDs in mind and will therefore load almost as slowly as before, especially if the game depends on disc loading a lot. So was it a bad update, I also noticed everything was wiped on my console, My Progress games, internet info, gone. I reset everything online, everything works fine, and recovered my online games. CD Rom reader, player or media will not work. I have never opened my gaming consoles up. ITTAKES THE DISC IT SPINS IT, BUT NO GAME PLAY sorry for caps. On screen you see no disc, and no eject through the cordless controllers. If you physically press eject the disc ejects. My hard drive is 64gig/74gig. Originally 80 Gig. My wife bought that console for me used from GameSpot with God of War Gold Edition, GTA-lV, and grand tourismo, for under 100 clams. It came with 2 controllers/ cords and a power plug. No books, no registration forms online or off. I keep me electronics in Prestige condition. I even have a PS/2- still works. And Nintendo 64 with all retro games- - in working order.
