Pruning My African Style Serissa, The Bonsai Zone, June 2024

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I'm doing the first pruning of my Serissa bonsai since it was repotted this spring.
This tree is styled to resemble the African Acacia tree in the Pierneef Style.
The Serissa japonica was formerly known as the Serissa foetida in the botany world.

As always, phenomenal work with this tree, good sir. That front branch made a big difference, that was a great call!

Such a beautiful tree. I have a hard time with my Serissa. They grow branches EVERYWHERE. One of these days I'll have to sit down and make some structural cuts. That style fits the tree so perfectly.

Idk if it's just me but after the pruning the trunk looks very big! Also I think it's the tree where you notice the most how much brighter the branches get after pruning so much foliage away. And yet, after pruning it doesn't look that different. Just gets to show how well developed it already is!

That tree is just magical. It's gone through a lot of change. It looks so um... How do I say.... Like a shrunken full size tree. Like if you took away all indications of size, people would not know it is small. Hopefully that makes sense. Well Done Nigel!

Did anyone else notice how horribly the chickens screamed when Nigel cut that first branch? I think they were screaming “Wire it!”…. Alas, in vain… 😂

Nigel, is the Serrisa smell pleasant or not? I couldn’t tell exactly by your reaction. The blossoms are sweet smelling right? Is the sap acrid and unpleasant? Your first cut was a good choice, in my humble opinion.

Both the roots and the branches small bad, like a washroom! I'm not sure the flowers have any smell, I'll smell the next one that comes out!
