Pruning back Petunias to keep shape and extend their beauty later in the year.

We are pruning our row of petunias along the sidewalk at the school. We are doing this so that the petunias will not get too long and leggy. This hurts the look. Also when bloom and go to seed they feel they have completed the life cycle and are now ready to die back. Cutting the blooms off makes them want to continue growing to get to that point. We are extending our growing season this way. Hoping for quality blooms when the kids come back to school @Flanagan Homestead

Wish they' d had a horticulture class when I was young. I can' t figure- out how people get those baskets of super long petunias. They' re like 3' long. Maybe longer. Ive always admired them.

@@FlanaganHomestead I can't sell any firewood bundles. I live on a cul de sac in Stayton and offer free delivery. I don't have a good location for a firewood stand like you. I might have to sell more on bulk during woodstove season.

@@stevepreston7030 selling by the cord is good to. Not as profitable but less work.

I had to cut back my petunias last week and they're finally starting to sprout leaves 🍃 They look pretty rough right now.

I had a BEAUTIFUL mixture of crimson+ yellow petunias in a 14" container. A thunderstorm made them look like crap, so after watching vidios like this, I cut EVERYTHING down to about 3". It took about 2 weeks of not much, but now it's going CRAZY with blooms! Also, 'they' said to feed it 1nce a week with like a miracle grow, all yr long, which I started doing. Good luck!

Whereabouts are you located? I’ve trimmed mine but not much. Propagating what I cut. Or should I say “trying”. If a petunia is not in the best of shape can you still cut it down? Don’t they need leaves for photosynthesis? I have some that need to be cut down but there’s nothing at the bottom…..too leggy. I’ve never had this leggy problem cuz mine are usually cascading and look great. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks ….And great video btw teaching this in your school. Wish my kids had this opportunity. Guess I have to do it myself 😃

We are in Woodland Washington. It can be beneficial to cut back a struggling petunia, but yes ideally you would be just cutting off top half and have some leaves below. They can grow new leaves.
