Prune your Hoyas: YOU CAN DO IT. 💪
Pruning Hoyas is okay. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise. By pruning your Hoyas and taking cuttings, can create:
1. A fuller, more bushy plant.
2. More flowers in the long run.
This video is about why I prune my Hoyas, why you shouldn't be afraid to prune your Hoyas, taking cuttings, and creating awesome freaking plants.
I hope this helps!

I have a Hoya carnosa that is. About 50 years old and climbing all over nearly covering our window. I inherited it from my mother who died at 92. She had it for as long as I can remember. Today, I am going to prune her down. Thank you for you video cause it gave me the courage. It use to bloom like nuts! But it hasnt bloomed in a few months.
THANK YOU! You are brilliant, delightful & informative! In 1984 (39 years ago), I took cuttings from a dear friend's 2nd generation Hoya that she started from her mother's. 💖 Not only is mine still alive, it has produced healthy 3rd & 4th generations from that very plant! 🌿🌿🌿🌿 It's time to try for a 5th! 🌱🌿 Wish me luck! 🍀🤞🙏
You and your hoya plants are so damn adorable! I was smiling throughout especially when you went "sniP!" Tysm for this lovely entertaining tutorial 💗 now it's not intimidating to prune my mature 3 hoyas, they've become very leggy😁

Thank you so much, I learned more in this video just realising I owned a hoya, than I have in the dozens or so videos before hand. What a great way to start the day! Thanks again
Thank you for the tutorial, my Hoya was taking over my living room. It was already a mature plant, when I got it some 40 years ago, and it is just a monster. I'm going to go snippety snip on it, and then all my friends can have Hoyas too ☺♥
Your carnosa is so tiny! It's precious. That was my first hoya, about 20+ years ago. I have so much of the stuff I can't give it away. 4 pots super bushy about 6' long. The longest it ever got was 15 feet. I've pruned my hoyas but I stick them in soil with the air roots intact. When they start to show buds, I know they are growing. Also you know they do well because the leaves aren't wilting or shriveling.

@UCRjGbWm25MaUd3VLuJpPtYg well there is no right or wrong really, from my research on this series, one thing I learnt for sure is that every language evolves, especially a semi dead language such as Latin (semi because Italian are super similar). In fact the word pedicel derives from the latin diminutive form of the word pedem, which in turn derived from the ancient greek word pous or podi (in modern greek), which means little foot!! 😄 Gaaah both my latin and ancient greek teachers would laugh so hard at me right now, lol!!!!!! 😂

This can be okay. Roots can come from the node as well. I have a Hoya carnosa cutting that I'm rooting in water. I twas submerged all the way up to the leaf and a root came out of the node where the leaf is growing.

Hi Betsy! I haven't been afraid to take cuttings from my hoyas. However, hearing you explain the positives vs. negatives of the issue have convinced me of the benefit in doing so. I only started collecting my 40+ hoyas last year and a few of them are sizable. Since I'm not only as old as dirt; but also, in declining health (according to my so-called "specialists"), I've never really EXPECTED to see my hoyas bloom. EVER! NOW, here YOU are telling us that ALL hoyas don't necessarily HAVE TO BE rootbound in order to flower! THAT, my dear, changes everything, as far as I'm concerned! GAME ON! Let me grow these babies! Betsy, do you fertilize your hoyas? If so, with what? (If I've asked you this previously, please remember that old folks are forgetful & are forever repeating stuff. Just respect your elders & answer the damn question. Ok? Lol!) Also, what kind of water do you root your cuttings in? Tap? Distilled? Room temp? What? Thank you in advance for your answers and thanks for sharing your knowledge, time & sense of humor with your followers! Plant LOVE!🌾💜

Hey Margie! I root my Hoya bella and Hoya carnosa cuttings in regular tap water that I refresh every 1-2 days. I have been rooting all the others in Hoya potting mix with or without root hormone, I don't really see any difference, they always root easily for me. As for fertilizer, in the past, when I watered my orchids, I would have some left over orchid fertilizer and I'd pour that into my Hoya bella but that was back when I only had two Hoyas! Now it's time to do a bit of research on Hoya fertilization and that I will. 🙂You can expect information about that from me in the future.

Yes! This was super informative. I clicked on bcause i wanted to do the very thing to my hoya, but never knew how. Like u said, there's a lot of misinformation on the internet. You showed me exactly where to cut n how best to root, and i thank u. (Sry 4 misspelling some words there, haha). You're a good teacher.
You’re awesome! Thanks for this video!! 🙌🏼💚
Very cool use of foil as a cutting support. I will try that next time. I recently ordered 4 hoya carnosa plants 2 months ago to give them a go for the first time, and sadly some arrived with miner damage one with a broken stem and some leaves that came lose with just little nubs of there stems still with the leaf. So I placed them all together in some water as I figured why not. Well I guess I was lucky because all but one of the leaves now has roots and are now potted in my grow mix. I was amazed as I didn't thank the single leaves would have rooted but they seemed to root faster then the stem piece. Amazing little plants these Hoya's!
Thank you The cutting information is wonderful, now I need to find a Hoya plant sale. Hoyas are on my wish list.
