Kayla Comeau exactly what I thought of! Death gave him warnings with his coughing and foot falling through the roof but Captain Herrera met him head on. It’s so sad but exactly going out on his own terms saving his family is how he deserved to go out.

I can't even count how many tears I cried during this episode. It was like watching a family member die. He died doing what he loved which was being a firefighter and saving his daughter and his team. I'm glad he got to walk Andy down the isle. R.I.P Pruitt ❤️

@@SierraJ. It does not mean that. He meant that he was not a current firefighter so they do not have to ring the bell. However, as the other guy pointed out, he died in a uniform, saving lives, on active duty. So he gets the bell. Many retired firefighters die daily, they do not ring the bell for them because they did not die while employed. But as the original comment stated, it should not have mattered. Ring the damn bell!

No, it shouldn't matter at all. We gave full fire department honors when our first chief, who died of a massive heart attack fighting a fire at a neighbor 's house, was retired about ten years.

Nobody and I mean nobody better blame Maya for this. She tried hard to keep Pruitt from going up there, she gave excuses and told him that the roof was unstable. The trucks have a harness in it why didn't he just hook himself up to it and the ladder? I believe that he always meant to go out like this instead of the cancer he had. He went out not only as a firefighter but as a father saving his daughter and those he made a family.

yes when the season finale came on no because she was trying to make her dad a bad guy to her mother and the only thing he did was keeping her safe

Instead of the cancer taking him, Captain Pruitt Herrera died doing what he loved by being a firefighter, selflessly saving the lives of others. I can have mad respect for that. He's a true hero. RIP and fly high with all the angels in heaven Captain Herrera 😭💔, you more than deserve it. I feel so bad for Andy, I'm sure not in a million years did she ever think that she'd lose her father the way that she did. I mean no daughter ever wants to imagine her losing her father, but I hope it brings some comfort to her knowing that her daddy died being the hero that he was, selflessly giving his life to save others. I'm so sorry Andy. RIP Captain Pruitt Herrera💔😭😭😭😭😭

Big appreciation for captain Maya Bishop, basically Sullivan told her to take control of the situation and she did. I just hope Andy won't be angry at her, this was the only possible solution.

I balled my eyes out throughout this episode, at the end just had me "thanking Captain Herrera for his selfless sacrifice, knowing his team and daughyer and fiance needed him" he was suffering with cancer, and would rather go out doing what he loves, fighting fires and saving lives💔😭 I feel for Andy, first Ryan and now her Dad.

Even a year later this scene still has me bawling

I couldn't think of a better way for him to go out. He didn't want to go out with cancer he wanted to be a hero and he was.

Power episode. The music. Him giving the world one last look and giving that roof every ounce he has left

I hope Andy won’t be mad at Sullivan that he left Maya alone there and if he hadn’t he might have been able to stop Pruitt. Because Maya sure looks pissed...

I was literally crying as he was getting up onto the ladder all the way to the end where his daughter realized he was gone and end credits

It would have been nice to see a scene or flashback between Captain Herrera and Sullivan before he died. Like him giving Sullivan his blessing and telling to take care of Andy.

He was a true firefighter and he knew his sickness was going to take him, but he sacrificed himself to save his crew / family. Thats the code and honor with first responders.

It’s so sad, but like he said in a previous episode “I want to go out on my own terms” and he did just that.

I haven’t sobbed over a show in a very long time but this hurt me sooo bad

I had a feeling it was going to be pruitt we lost this week. He died doing what he loved to save his daughter and his fire family. At least it wasnt the cancer that took his life. 😭

wasn’t a huge fan of Pruitt but he was really good this season (except when he slut shamed Andy) He truly redeemed himself This death was fitting for his character, instead of him getting sicker and sicker. He was doing what he loves and saving his family 😭😭😭

Cried like he was my own father when I watched this episode 😭 I’m glad he died doing what he loved and for the people he loved, esp his daughter.. Bittersweet scene! What a legend 💙

One of the most heartbreaking scenes on tv for me. I’ve gotten so attached to all of these characters and seeing him go out like that hit me deep. As soon as he heard his daughter on the radio I knew he was going to go save her but it didn’t make that any less painful. Captain Pruitt Herrera deserves 20 bells and so much more. ❤️😭

The saddest and most beautiful moment of all the entire series. He died saving the life of his family because for him they weren’t just his team, they were his family.

Even though i do know this is fiction, i cried a lot! Wow, what an ending, what a beautiful cast, what a great actor for Mr Herrera, and that soundtrack 👏🏾👍🏾. GREAT job everyone!!! I'm from France and i love all of you!

Well he died as a hero and that part with the old firefighters talking about ringing the bell and when I heard the bell I got goosebumps well so I'll be needing the whole week to recover from this episode then cry again next Thursday BUT IF THE SHOW IS GOING TO KILL ANOTHER PERSON PLEASE BE THE FIRE CHIEF AND NOT SOMEONE WE ACTUALLY WANT TO KEEP Ok I'm done ranting

This is literally the scariest thing about being a parent. I would have done the same for my child! I was so stressed out the whole episode. I just wish they could have got the chance to say formal goodbyes. I still cant believe it. I thought Ripleys death was hard but this was 10x harder

Another emotional episode. It was good seeing Reginald Vel Johnson (Carl Winslow) after all these years.
