Dagan reviews the PRS SE Standard 24 pictured here in Tobacco Sunburst - a cheap PRS guitar that professionals will love!

In this video, Dagan shows us the incredible tones within the PRS SE Standard 24 Electric Guitar which offers guitarists the chance at owning a PRS guitar without breaking the bank!
This is one of the best cheap electric guitars around as it offers a world of tonal options via the set of powerful PRS-designed humbuckers which can be split via the push/pull coil tap function. A PRS designed Tremolo unit allows for those amazing tremolo solos and dynamics whilst the 24 fret mahogany neck with Wide-Thin design is extremely comfortable to play.
This is one of the most affordable PRS guitars and perfect for players of all levels.

Hard to beat the SEs. They just might be the best guitar value ever under $1,000. I have a Santana SE as well as a CE, and I'm continually amazed at the SEs' overall build quality, playability and yes, sound.

It’s actually called coil splitting. A coil tap can take place on a single coil in which you wind say 5000 turns then ad a tap and wire say 1000 more turns after that. Then you cut off that last 1000 turns by flipping a switch.

I had a high dollar PRS in 89. Kept it for about a year, gigged it a few times. Always went back to my Fenders and Gibsons. Couldn't trade it off fast enough. Traded a Seagull acoustic/electric straight up for this budget PRS. Got it home, set it up, added new strings and OMG, can't wait to play it out. Amazing guitar! I've had 4 days and i so enjoy picking it up. Looks like it's going to be a main guitar for me. Well pleased.

AWESOME! i played my first prs almost 10 years ago and now im on my third one, an S2 custom 24. a true work horse, no needless bells and whistles, only pure shredding performance! people will tell me PRS(es) are too clean, they have no soul. just dial back the tone knob, slap on a tube screamer and they will be eating their words. my S2's tone knob 7 position is like a 10 on something like a lespaul. ive played jazzmasters to gretch white falcons to thinline teles and full fat lespauls. each has their own flavor but when i need a job done, the S2 is what i reach for!

I own a 2019 SE Custom Laurel Burl exotic top. Dagen is on point with his review with one major exception. If you use the tremelo or do some big bends, it WILL go out of tune. The problem is the nut. If you change the nut to a PRS replacement nut for the american made guitars or to a TUSQ...problem solved. After some research on the Internet, this seems to be a common problem with these models. Otherwise. I absolutely LOVE IT!

I've got a limited edition satin black earlier this year and have been loving it a lot ever since. Unlike what Dagan said, it has the same 85/15s pickups typically found on the Custom models, so the only difference is the lack of a maple top (and addition of fretboard binding). I was initially looking at a 90s Jackson Fusion to replace a guitar I had sold but preferred to stay away of FR trems, and was on the edge between an LTD EC-1000 and a Custom 24. Tried both, preferred the sound, added features and feel of the PRS (the LTD quality has dropped a lot, they used to have an ebony fretboard and better inlays). Still, had to save up for quite some time, and that's when I considered a Standard for nearly half the price, that played and sounded just as well as the Custom and with the same degree of quality, plus a reminiscent looks of what I liked about the LTD - instant buy! It also felt lighter than the Custom, it's about even with a Strat. Came set up spot on with super low action, only thing I'm considering to replace is the nut whose slots aren't super well cut.

Seems to be a bit of confusion regarding the pickups on the Standard 24 SE vs Custom 24 SE. In the video he says the Standard SE is fitted with HFS t in the bridge and vintage bass in the neck where as in the spec on the website and PRS too is states they have 85/15 s in both positions. I have read this in other places online too, do any PRS heads out there have a definitive answer?

Honestly you can’t go wrong either way. I have an se custom 24 and a jemjr in my collection. I think the Ibanez has better pickups but the PRS has MUCH better fretwork. My score would be: Aesthetics: draw (totally different styles) Tone: Ibanez (very close though. The single coil tones are way better to my ear though) Playability: PRS by a mile The only beef I have with the Ibanez is the bridge. Floyd rose’s are tough to set up and tune. Once it’s set though mine stays in tune perfectly. If I was forced to sell one I’d give up the Ibanez, but it’s about half the price of the PRS so there you go.

Can you split the bridge and neck like a "Paul's"? Single coil on the neck, humbucker on the bridge and vice versa?

After viewing loads of PRS SE and core model videos and not hearing a major difference between them. I came across a 2013 Korean made Custom 24 in charcoal grey with the birds on the neck. As it had three holes screwed into it for a GK3 Synth pickup (idiot, use the sticky pads) I got it at a steal, at least $200 less than other ones I'd seen. It also had a hard case so I done the deal. I filled the holes, colored and drop filled them, sanding them smooth. I felt the fingerboard edges a bit too abrupt so I rounded them off, perfect. after playing Les Pauls and Strats for many, many years, I wanted to see what this guitar could bring to the table. Firstly humbuckers, It's a good bit brighter than my Les Pauls, possibly because of the treble bleed capacitor fitted, not the same tone quality, missing the Gibson quack, really a bit generic. Think more Schecter, Ibanez etc! Split coils fare a good bit better, getting a reasonable Strat tone out of each and a nice Tele middle position. Where it falls down of course is Strat positions 2 and 4, everyone's favorites! Maybe a three humbucking pickup version with a five way switch and extra coil split would be the ultimate PRS. I do find it play easier than both LP and Strat, thanks to the extended access cutaways and the 24 frets. Check the video out ;0)

Dude you can look up for boss katana or yamaha thr series, what is your budget? I assume pretty high if this one will be your first guitar :) I would definitely go for an amp that allows you to model the sound (like the ones I mentioned), since you will explore a variety of different styles in your first years. If your budget is low, you may go for an old roland cube (you will find it for sure on reverb), those things are little beasts!

depending on what you want and how much space you want to give up, the Yahmaha THR5 is good ($200) but it is small which is personal preference I guess, but there's also the marshall MG30GFX for a little bit more ($230)

As other have mentioned, modelling amp is cool for different sounds. Something like Fender Mustang GT series. If you are on a tight budget or in tight space, check out Boss Katana Mini.
