such old school, inside there is a Thyristor, not even a triac, at least, they are not changing anything like Dremmel.

the component that failed is no mosfet or bipolar transistor like you explain at 49:00. it's an SCR (silicon controlled rectifer, also called thyristor). it switches on at a certain point of the AC cycle, which you set with the potentiometer. this is also the reason why the speedcontrol only works when using the proxxon AC power supplies and not when powered with a regulated DC supply.

@@ChriFux it was just not worth for me, because i prefer the old one, the old one had also more space for a good motor and i like to use it with my extra power supply, the speed is better to adjust like that. The new one was not bad to, but why should i stay with two if you understand ^^

Do you find that the AC models (the ones that go directly in to the wall 230V) are lesser quality? Could you say some more about this. I am not a heavy user (I build plastic scale models) So most important for me is that it holds the drills very precisely and firmly.

Do you have a part number or specs of the original motor? I want to modify mine to either work from USB-C or a 3-4s li-ion battery pack, but would like to use the original motor without blowing it up. I think the proxxon trafo supplies up to 15V, I don't have one, just use lab supply with alligator clips to the plug.

Hi! I wanted to buy one of those, but I'm not sure which version is better the 60/E or the 230/E I'm starting to carve wood, but not sure what i'll end using it for... any clue what are the pros and cons of each version? Thank you! nice video! :)

If you have no tools at all you better buy the 230/E because the 230/E has quite the double of power compares to the 50(60)/E and over all its cheaper. To work with the 50(60)/E you additionaly must buy a separate power supply ( from Proxxon, other will not working / not working properly ! ) and in this case its better to buy the "big" NG5(/E) because it has way more power than the NG2(/E). If you want to buy some other 12V Proxxon Tools in future its possible that the NG2(/E) is too weak for them. With the NG5(/E) you can run all of them.

Good video. To be honest Micromot 50/E was huge disappointment for me. It says it can be used to work with minerals, steel, etc., but I dont know how is it supposed to do so. It's rated 40W, but power supply says it provides 12V/1A which is 12W. And it's so weak that it can drill holes into the wood, brush is useable, it works for engraving glass, but it's weak for working with harder materials. Even milling bits hardly work on wood. Stronger power supply is sadly as expensive as higher quality power supply for PC. I'm considering buying some mini drill from LIDL in case i will need it again. What's your experience with 2A power supply and this tool?

This is precisely why I'm thinking to get the 60 (nonE) and get the NG5 to control speed/torque.

Wondering if Dremel Stylo+ 2050-15 is better or worse. I want to have something small for drilling and grinding plastic cases for electronic projects and also for drilling circuit boards. I have a larger grinder / drill already but it's just unusable for such precision work.
