Proximity Voice Chat With RAYCASTING

Ойындар

I recently integrated Sector's Edge with Epic Online Services and one of the features they offer is voice chat. Anyone with a Steam account can use this feature (no need to sign in to Epic) and I have combined it with my audio raycasting system for realism and immersion.
You will be able to mute yourself, mute other players, deafen yourself and adjust the volume of other players.
This feature will be available in our upcoming Open Beta event, more details will be shared on our Discord server soon: sectorsedge.com/d/lw1d

    Damn, that's a really cool way to implement proximity voice chat. Would be even cooler if there's a muffled effect based on the layers of obstacle blocking the player.

    Thank you! Yeah that's the plan, I'd also like to adjust how much the sound echoes based on the surfaces the rays bounce off, so metal rooms would have more echo than a sand/stone room

    I’ve been waiting for this! I’m looking forward to making callouts and just being able to chat with other players.

    Problem with raycasting is that it doesn’t have diffraction. There shouldn’t be such a large transition as you get in front of the hole.

    How does this differ to volumetric audio if I may ask?

  • @Vercidium

    @Vercidium

    I'm not familiar with volumetric audio, the reason I used raycasting is because the environments are destructible, meaning the environment around the player needs to be continually scanned
