Proximity Voice Chat With RAYCASTING

I recently integrated Sector's Edge with Epic Online Services and one of the features they offer is voice chat. Anyone with a Steam account can use this feature (no need to sign in to Epic) and I have combined it with my audio raycasting system for realism and immersion.
You will be able to mute yourself, mute other players, deafen yourself and adjust the volume of other players.
This feature will be available in our upcoming Open Beta event, more details will be shared on our Discord server soon: sectorsedge.com/d/lw1d

Damn, that's a really cool way to implement proximity voice chat. Would be even cooler if there's a muffled effect based on the layers of obstacle blocking the player.

Thank you! Yeah that's the plan, I'd also like to adjust how much the sound echoes based on the surfaces the rays bounce off, so metal rooms would have more echo than a sand/stone room
First five seconds has IMMENSE meme potential
I’ve been waiting for this! I’m looking forward to making callouts and just being able to chat with other players.
awesome stuff I love proximity voice chat !

Thanks :) yep those are all on the list
Problem with raycasting is that it doesn’t have diffraction. There shouldn’t be such a large transition as you get in front of the hole.
Great Work!!! One Question: Do you use Vivox, Photon or Dissonance?

Thanks! I haven’t heard of those, I use OpenAL Soft
I've been watching your newer videos and just realized that you figured out how to get positional voice chat with EOS???? HOW??!??!?
Yo epicc
Dang that is a perfect art style. Where can I learn to model like that?

Thanks! We used Blender to create these low poly characters
How does this differ to volumetric audio if I may ask?

I'm not familiar with volumetric audio, the reason I used raycasting is because the environments are destructible, meaning the environment around the player needs to be continually scanned
This is honestly one of the coolest technical things you've done
