Been playing this game for a little while, and adore the system. The folks in the Discord have been pretty amazing, and the big cheeses are insanely helpful with questions about rules, character creation, and world building. PS - The magic Bennies/Plot points are called Resolve. Edge determines speed in combat. :)

Agreed, I'd call narrative (specifically comic book narrative from various eras) its biggest selling point. Another pretty good one for that is Masks, although it has a somewhat more narrow scope (teen supers) without dipping into the expansion books.

Personally jumped from Mutants and Masterminds 3E to P&PUE because how player friendly this game is for everyone. Also the game tells you that are many ways to use powers like your Blast (any form of ranged attack) can also be used as an active defense (dodge/ parry) within reason, as well a lot of powers work well without having to attach so many descriptors to get what you want. I would say the only weakness it has is that while it offers a section to make equipment which works as +Xd modifiers to the action (Since hitting and doing dmg is the same in P&P) or do the same thing as powers (the book explains it as such) but they never offer examples of suc in the heroes and villains section.

depends. Comic book action: Prowlers and Paragons. Cinematic action like the MCU and the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cortex Prime. Both are great.

You're video convinced me to pull the trigger and purchase the premium hardcover on dtrpg... I would be curious to hear your thoughts on Sentinel Comics RPG. That game gets its DNA heavily from Cortex/Marvel Heroic RPG. I'm currently going through it right now... It may be too modern for my taste... I'm still undecided.

I've seen it, haven't picked it up. Saw the power list and looked slightly limiting. (maybe because they are going to release an ultimate power book). There is really nothing you can't build in P+P. I've been reading it for the past two weeks non stop, I might do a more in depth overview of it.

@@Azerod The powers in Sentinels are deliberately very broad in nature, and there's no need for splatbooks to expand them - I haven't found a character I can't at least approximate using the rules as written. The way you assemble dice pools lets you use the mix of powers and qualities you want to perform what would be power stunts or pushes in other games. It's very fluid but does depend on player creativity and a somewhat permissive attitude from the GM. The game definitely falls farther toward the abstraction end of the spectrum than many games, although nowhere nears as much so as something like Masks. That said, it's more of a narrative RPG about telling a story in the style of comic books than a tabletop simulation of being a superhero like (say) Champions. That may or may not be to your tastes, although going by what you're describing for P&P-UE and your (understandable) nostalgic fondness for V&V it might be abit more abstracted than you'd prefer.

Have you looked into Sentinel Comics, or Wild Talents? I have most of the games that you have there, and in my opinion represent some of the best supers games out there. Sentinel Comics specifically is a derivative of Cortex, and is hands down the best supers game I have ever seen in my life.

Depends on how you define best. The character creation system is certainly the best drinking game I've ever seen in a Supers TTRPG, although the Palladium one comes a close second. Roll your powers, take five minutes to think, then explain your origin that justifies your bizarre mix of random powers. Take a drink every time the majority of the table calls BS on a detail. Or if you want to be modern, do a Cards Against Humanity-style variant where everyone goes through their explanation, then one person "wins" and everyone else drinks. Might also qualify as "best" for sheer volume of adventures support. The old TSR Marvel Supers game might have more published modules (emphasize might) but they aren't easy to come by any more, while V&V's are all still up on FGU's store. Even if you don't play the game they offer an idea mine that could be handy for other rules.
