If you need quick access to your rifle and want to have hands free hiking for trekking pole use, etc.. I would ditch the rifle sling and get a Kifaru Gun Bearer. If i had one suggestion it would be carry 100 ft of paracord and one carabiner for river crossings. You can your packs in garbage bags clip them on a line and use the current to drift them across and or use it as a safety line. Light and compact. You do my dream hunts every year. Maybe one day i will make it out.

@@moderndaymountainman8130 Sorry to hear of your loss of your companion!! Thank you for your great videos! They are both well made and interesting. They are also quite informative and (REAL) as far as hunting goes!! Yes, labs are the best! I bred and trained labs for 10 years for waterfowl and upland bird hunting. I had 4 REALLY GOOD LABS over the years, but there was "ONE", (RUGER), which was the "BEST". Both as an intelligent dog, ((300 yard "BLIND" retrieves with just a whistle and hand commands)), and as a DEVOTED COMPANION at my side for 12 years 24/7!! I will miss that dog FOREVER! I also helped guide black bear hunts in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan 98-2004. I lived in Michigan (30 years), Wisconsin (2 years), now in Minnesota (3 years). I live vicariously through your hunts, as I am on oxygen now, (4th stage COPD), and am limited as far as strenuous hunting goes. Would LOVE to go deer hunting with you in Wisconsin! In cold weather, I like to wear silk longjohns or the ultra-lightweight wool version that wicks sweat away from my skin into the next layer of lightweight wool. I use sock liners that are made of the same material and my feet stay warm and dry. The ultra-lightweight silk or ultra-lightweight wool longjohns and liners make all the difference in the world. Before I learned to use them I was either hot and sweaty or sweaty and cold. I regulate my core temp by layering like everyone else. That's another major factor in staying warm and dry don't put on too much when starting out. You are going to be walking and if you have too many layers on you will start sweating and get way too hot then you will be cold the rest of the hunt. Spend your hard-earned money on good hunting clothes and leave the cheap crap at Walmart on the shelf. You will be more comfortable and it will last much longer than the cheap stuff.

Hey Billy. Great info on the amount of stuff to pack for extended stinky hunts. Question - knowing you are in grizzly country all the time, what is your best practice on food containers and smell to try and prevent attracting bears ? And then one other question - items like tooth paste - are you storing those smelly items away from camp, and like brushing your teeth and spitting your toothpaste / mouth wash out well away from campsites ? Or, do you just not worry with that stuff and just keep your head on a swivel for those snoopy hungry bears ?

Keep a rifle, or at least pistol handy and don't worry about anything else. As you watch my videos you'll see that I, like most guides who live with bears for months at a time, don't follow what the "experts" say.

The bears where Billy is hunting are SUPER fearful of humans. Even though there’s food, toothpaste, deodorant, etc. the scent from the people at camp keep them away.

Great video of absolute needs on Alaska hunt......I do have a question on your weapon container....did the airlines allow weapon and ammunition in same container....I used AMERICAN AIRLINES few years ago for Elk Hunt in Idaho and the customs folks told me I had to seperate the ammo from weapon , in other words had to put ammo in duffle bag and weapon in it's container.....what airlines did you use that allowed this..???? Many thanks and good hunting...

Brown bear hunting in Alaska is at the top of the to-do list. If I was a guide I would require the hunter to have a sidearm. If I can’t get to my revolver fast enough, the hunter can get to his. Safety is both the guide and the hunter’s jobs.

Hey Billy! Just recently came across your channel and I’m telling you I can’t stop watching your content. Now that I heard the word “plandemic” from you, I like you even more lol. I’m just somebody who’s learning and wanting to get into more deep wilderness hunting like you show on your channel so that I can get into DIY hunting before I get wealthy enough for guided hunts and you best believe, YOU will be my guide of choice. Excellent content, be safe out there, God bless!

Can you actually have the ammo in with the rifle? Or do you have to carry it separate in a different bag? I bought my .375 Ruger in the hopes of getting to Alaska. It's currently my only centerfire rifle so I use it for everything. Very informative and helpful video. Love your channel

Hello Billy I was just wondering if you had a thermacell mosquito repellent in Your arsenal it's a green it has a canister that you put into the bottle of it and you push a button and it heats it up you can't smell it so I think that would be a good tool for you in Alaska and I think it's good for 12 hours
