Proto spacing with Lucina is god tier. He kept the ultra aggressive kola at bay the whole time

I really love this match cuz i feel like it's the match Kola wanted when he said Protobanham was the player he wanted to fight the most

when I see this set I can't help but feel like it's the final fight of an epic anime with the 2 swordsmen giving it all. It looks so cool. my favorite set of the event!

Proto for sure is my favourite player nowdays. Watching him play Lucina you learn lot about the character you didn't know earlier. Also Min Min is sick.

It makes me smile to see that the winner finals of the FIFTH ultimate summit is between two sword characters from the base roster

As I was watching this I felt completely in awe at how these two have peaked their character's advantages and how Roy is aggressive and rush down with fire and Lucina is steady but precise almost like ice. If you take the time to look at their blade effects it's a really nice piece of art!

What a classic, fun matchup to watch man. Proto's play is just always so fundamentally sound it's crazy how consistent he is even with the few rare SDs Kola also put up a great fight and made the set overall just super fun to watch

Super impressed by Proto. It looks like a nightmare to face Kola's Roy with how good he's in neutral, advantage, and recovery. Amazing set.

As a Proto fan this set is so satisfying. I remember watching them play at SWT. Proto was playing that MU so wrong. He was trying to trade air moves with Kola. Doing that as Lucina vs Roy you will lose everytime. The key is to stay grounded as Lucina. Thats how she wins the MU. He showed some of this vs Goblin at summit 4. Obviously Goblin isn't the same level as Kola but to my knowledge Proto hasn't played any high or top level roys in japan (he's never played alice). So seeing him implement a more grounded playstyle was great.

I went into training room and Lucina does indeed kill Roy with fully charged forward smash at that % on that platform with no rage. He probably did the up smash to style but didn’t realize it wouldn’t kill

I love to watch Proto's Lucina. He's contained when he has to, but won't give you time to breath when he has an advantage. Amazing player!

SWTの時はバナムさんが負けてたけど今回は勝ったりで、バナムさんが海外大会をたくさん経験して強くなってからのこの試合って考えるとこの戦いはすげー熱いし、異国の剣士同士、赤と青の見た目も相まって見ててワクワクが止まらんのよ！

2 of my favorite players, especially when proto goes lucina.

These two are my favorite smashers. I love seeing Banham’s Lucina and Kola’s Roy. I hope it was the start of a long rivalry between the two. Either way, I’m happy!

I love Acola and we all certainly expected him to make it far, but I’m super glad Proto got his vengeance on the disrespectful Light in grand finals.

I think his Lucina is good because he's had winning experience with other characters, especially top tier chars. Exclusive Lucina mains don't do as well.

@@Cheesesteakfreak maybe. The Min Min does offer good coverage, though it might be a selection bias. Other Lucina mains dont do as well, but that's because Proto is a better player. Any other reason is conjecture, though I think your point is pretty reasonable.

Commentators are pretty bias. If Kola had won they would've been cheering and popping off. Proto won and they were pretty quiet.

You are right. It is especially true for Lucina against Roy. She can counter his up B for free when he recovers. Using counter in neutral is a lot riskier though and should only be done on a read

@@georgesbouchet7430 i feel like some of the reads are obvious, i know they can't use it in neutral a lot because people will bait it, but a few times for mix up I never really see. For ex if roy is 100+ and lucinais landing vs him, every top player shields when its obvious she will either shieldbreaker if she knows its lower than full, hit to pressure shield or just go fopr cross up. Tomohack grabs are only rlly done to punish over shielding falling ariels like ppl used to do vs mkleo's ike. So many times both roy and lucina coulda countered the falling ariel instead of shielding. In my opinion that is

@@HopeArk Actually... you're right again. I guess counter is just not an option top players think about often. But I'll try to use it more since I also didn't use it much beside off stage. Instead of parrying or shielding, counter could work wonders at times

I remember the first set between those too... I cried salty tears in the comment section. I even almost lost faith in Lucina 🤣 ! Ah... I'm happy. Not only did ProtoBanham got his rematch against Kola, but he won with his solo (goated) Lucina against the best Roy in the world. I was getting a bit agitated at times when he didn't counter off stage whereas I knew he could have done so, but he did it a couple times, so I'm not complaining. He learned more about the matchup. Lucina vs Roy is almost like Lucina vs Fox. I think she slightly wins vs Fox, but Roy has a lot more kill power, so I'd say it's even or closer to be against him. Lucina loses to them if her player doesn't edge guard these characters enough. But if you get early edge guards like in game 2, fighting Fox or Roy as Lucina becomes a lot less scary. Roy is my favorite matchup as Lucina. I'm used to beat Roy players, but as long as they are challenging to battle, I always feel this kind of rush when I fight them. It's like fighting a " broken " version of my main. Hats off to both players, once again. Let's go Proto 😁
