ProTemp Plus by ChefsTemp: Is It Worth Your Money?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Truly wireless meat thermometers have become super popular for good reason. I'm testing ChefsTemp's ProTemp Plus wireless meat thermometer and reviewing some of the top features. Which one is my favorite? It uses WiFi for unlimited range so you aren't tethered to your cook.

I got this on Kickstarter with an additional probe. Love it. I do clean the probes in the dishwasher and this ability is amazing

You can't do that with wired probes!

This is nice. I like that you can buy just one or two extra probes that link to the base. Much better option than having to buy either one or four from Meater.

That will be a nice addition. It gives you a chance to try it before committing to all of the probes.

Honestally, The new MEATER 2 plus is still the best wireless probe out, but the fact that it can’t be totally WiFi like the block is a head scratcher. The Canadian bbq guy “Smoking dad bbq”has the most thorough comparison of all of them

Your videos are fantastic! Thanks for putting this review out. I’m always looking for easier ways to cook better food. Just out of curiosity… were there any negatives to the temp probes or the base? Your video seemed to be full of positives, but I didn’t really hear any negatives. Keep up the good work!!!

For everything it was built to do, it worked great and I didn't have any connection issues even after a long cook. The more I think about it, I wish it had a higher temperature range on the ambient side. I wouldn't use it often, but I could see the benefit when doing a sear on a really thick steak.

I backed this on kickstarter as on paper it should be the best out there but I find it awful. - the unit beeps randomly all the time - can’t see the temps without setting up a cook in the app. Which is fine but when when it’s done it’s constantly alerting to take it off the heat so you end the cook to get it to stop alerting and then you can’t see the temps during the rest and it’s stopped charting - often doesn’t show the ambient temp, but when it does it’s woefully inaccurate. My probes show at least 40f cooler than the actual ambient temp and that’s when it decides to actually show the ambient reading That’s just off the top of my head. They should be able to fix all its problems with software and firmware updates and eventually it could be a great product but it’s not ready for prime time yet by a long shot.

You might have gotten a bad one. What did support say? I did see that the base display is too dark to view it in the default setting. The ambient probe was higher than the grate level probe, but that's common since the kettle is much hotter as you go up.

@@GrillTopExperience they did replace the probe but all the same issues remained. I think the product just needs more time in the oven, it does have the potential to be great but it’s just not ready. No real excuse for the ambient probe being so way off, although Meater does suffer the same issue to be honest
