We also need to limit artificial lighting near these beaches because when those turtles are born they head out to sea using the moon as a compass.. However, because of human development, this has threatened these species because many of them think the street lighting is the moon, so the turtles confusingly follow the artificial street lights instead.

This isn't completely accurate: they don't follow the moon, they follow the moonlight that's reflected off the water. Pool lights, streetlight reflected off roads, etc, produce the optical illusion of shining waves to the turtles poor eyesight. This is why the people in the video and the houses in the background are illuminated by red light; very little red light in moonlight, and even less is reflected off the water, so it doesn't produce the same optical illusion to the turtles eyes as blue light.

This takes place in my country and not only do these guys help protect the turtles when they are laying their eggs but they also help the babies when they hatch since they are so vulnerable to predators as they try to reach the ocean. I’ve stayed near the beaches several times when I was younger to observe both the egg laying season and the babies hatching season and both events are marvelous to witness. They are amazing creatures and I’m so glad that guys like him are looking out for them ☺️

I live on the beach where I see loggerheads laying their eggs. They struggle to reach a spot above the tides (only to encounter animals and even humans who take advantage of their extreme vulnerability). So glad for growing awareness to save these creatures (at 110 million years, among the oldest on earth).

WhatMusic INR. I’ve never understood these dislikes on videos. I mean, I never Dislike vids but someone out there does. And sometimes I think it’s almost For no reason.

Sometimes those poachers do it to help their family. If there are better ways to support your family, the poachers not longer poach. At least the ones who are not evil, and are simply self interested whom I'd guess make up the vast majority.

1982Lazarus You are doing something bad because this action helps you more than it hurts. If people are given better options, most will take them. If you give people the option of family or turtle, they will pick turtle. I know I surely would. You and I are both lucky that we live in situations where our lives are comfortable enough that we can have insignificant discussions about turtles on the internet and not have to worry when our next meal will come or if we will be able to provide the basics for our families. It’s a feel good thing to us because either way we have little to gain or lose.
