Prostate artery embolization for benign prostatic hyperplasia

Prostatic artery embolization is an emerging effective treatment approach with minimal possible adverse events, blood loss, and hospitalization stay for symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (lower urinary tract symptoms and decreased quality of life). Patients often are treated with medication until the medication become less effective. The prostatic artery embolization is offered as an alternative option to transurethral resection of the prostate surgery for persistent symptoms.

As of today July 31 ,2024, it's been 2 months since I had this procedure done May 23, 2024. Everyone's body is different and I notice positive results after just 1 month. They did the procedure by going through my left wrist which allowed for a faster recovery time than going through the groin. I was told that the maximum benefit would top out at 6 months. I'm already pleased with what I've got. And to think that there's more benefit to come. Wow!

I have had this same procedure in the UK. I was in full retention, self catheterizing. The intervention radiologist who did it, said before the procedure that it would not take effect for 5-6weeks. At 5 weeks 2 days I started passing urine. I have not been this happy for a long time. If you need a operation for BPH this is the procedure to have.

@@ahmetgider2588 I had this operation because the other procedure have more side effects . If the PAE does not work, which for some people it does not, you can try the other operations.

I prefer the procedure where they go through the thigh artery more directly to the prostate. See video titled "The Best Treatment for Enlarged Prostate: Prostate Artery Embolization"

It is a personal preference. Please see our animation one groin (thigh) artery access for prostate artery embolization at kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYSFpdOvqbTfl6g.html One should be mindful that common femoral artery access for prostate artery embolization is associated with longer period of immobility (minimum of 2 hours if a closure device is used), and higher rate of access site complication.

Prostate artery embolization has a high rate of success, with over 90% of men experiencing relief in the first year. Unlike other treatments that may have unwanted sexual side effects, PAE does not affect sexual performance.

I have had a similar procedure in Romania. The diference between this podcast and my real intervention was without catheter in bladder at the beginning. The result is my urethra was strangled after embolization. I did a cystoscopy and I see the result. Now my helth is worst then before. An urologist doctor told me before the procedure not to do this and I didn't listen to him. Now is too late. Look on secondary efect on internet. It's up to you.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Typically, the presence of a catheter in the urethra should not complicate matters, as the blood supply to the prostate and urethra originates from separate sources. It's important for patients to receive informed consent, outlining the potential benefits and risks associated with each procedure. It's crucial to understand that no medical intervention or procedure is without its risks.

Thank you for your answer. Could be possible my doctor did something wrong during the procedure. Sure he did not tell me the possible risks.Could you tell me in my case a solution can be a transurethral rejection, a new embolization procedure or treatment? Thank you.

I had PAE done 38 days ago in Colorado. What a blessing to have found this procedure. Two hours in the clinic and out (urologist procedures average time in the hospital is 1.38 days). I admit I had to use the bathroom quite often over the next 24 hours after the procedure but after that no problems . I had normal intimacy (I used that word for youtube politeness) ten times after the procedure over the next 35 days and am extremely happy with PAE. I have to admit that using Flomax totally ruined intimacy physically for me so medication was not something I would use. PAE is dissed by Urologists because they don't do it. That is like going to a Ford Dealership and asking to buy a Corvette (made by Chevy). The Interventional Radiologist doctor I used does not use a Foley Catheter. He stopped that method after his first 100 cases (he has done over 600). Nothing up the penis. My doctor went in through the femoral artery in the leg. His name was Dr. Charles Nutting.
