That's awesome!! I try to share as much as I can as I'm still learning myself. I'd like to go more in depth in the future. Every winter I put a lot of effort into researching so I can put it into practice in the summer. Now Is the time to get some boots on the ground again, I'll be back out exploring soon🙂

Thanks!! I think some of my next videos will be a bit shorter, it gives me more time for exploring and I'll be able to be more consistent!! I might be doing some traveling soon so I'll need to get some videos ready to fill in that time😁

Thanks!! I try to be careful, honestly what I'm doing in this video is quite mild compared to what some of my friends do. There is still risk involved though so it is always good think it through and find the safest route. That's basically why I ended up making that tree ladder🙂

I can't help but admire how tough you are. The terrain you are trecking through is more rugged than people realize. Keep on following your passion and thank you for sharing with us. Someday we will get the chance to witness you find the mother load of gemmy crystals and I for one look forward to that day.

Thanks!! I'm sure someday I'll come across a big discovery, for now I'm just happy finding small pockets every once in a while. Every adventure out is one step closer to a big find is how I think about it😁

Wow its good to see you out and hounding again! Great idea with the tree! Some nice finds I love the little quartz crystal on the felspar! Such a perfect little crystal. You got some really neat feldspar crystals clusters too! Just a bunch of really unique and different finds! It was really interesting to watch. Im glad you came up with the tree idea, because that slippery wall you were hugging was scaring me! Glad youre safe! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us!

Thanks!! Yea it was a little sketchy on that ledge, I wasn't too high up but still it's best to be as safe as possible. I'm quite happy with the finds from this trip and I have high hopes for some even better pockets in the future🙂

That was a great adventure with some very cool crystal finds. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and hard work to bring us this excellent video. To me, the coolest thing about the crystals is that they're so unique. Each has its own character. The view from the creek was fantastic! It looked like the river below was flowing quite high. Thanks!! The rivers are going to start flooding soon, we had a fairly cold spring so there's lots of snowpack still up in the mountains and it melting quickly!! hopefully I can hit up a couple creeks before it starts to really rage😁

@@NWRockExplorer I forgot to mention that when you said you were going to build a tree ladder, I thought you meant one of those special ladders that is used for picking fruit trees. I didn't realize you meant an actual tree! That was a really great idea!

Good idea with the tree ladder 👍🏼 I’m going to keep that in mind in the future. Last week I found a very similar pocket up on a road cut that I had to climb up to get to. I found some really cool barite crystals but it was so difficult I didn’t even try to film it. I love the Tessen habit one you found. Another excellent video 👍🏼

Thanks!! Tree ladders are a nice thing to have especially if you're digging in the same area a lot. you can always just stash it in the woods and use it at the next spot!! Hopefully I'll come across some more pockets in this area with some even better crystals in them, really it's all about finding one big enough and that didn't get filled with too much feldspars. Usually the Pockets with a nice grey or green clay hold the best crystals!!

Pink is a good color to see, but you could also use flourescent yellow or even some reflective material. Just found your channel. Born and raised in Washington state, but in florida now. I miss being able to do what you do, but glad I can watch!

Thanks!! I'm thinking about getting a roll of high vis reflective tape that they use on trailers, that stuff is fairly strong and is probably brighter than any paint I can get. Hopefully It works out and I can even put some on my other tools that can be easy to loose😁

Beautiful finds today man, love the quartz crystal, and the feldspar is pretty. Great adventure out there in nature. Excellent work! Love seeing the points and the water flowing is peaceful. I also enjoy hearing your knowledge along the way, helpful, I know what I can't identify a lot of what I find, just knows it's pretty.

Thanks!! A lot of the time I just go use my best educated guesses when I'm out in the field!! I'm still learning a lot myself and I've caught myself making a few mistakes in the past but that's how you learn right!! I'm always happy to throw a few tips out there if there's ever any questions you might have😉

@@NWRockExplorer definitely, I will let you know. Anything you search online is like the best version of that rock or mineral so its typical not the grade I'm finding out there, so most I struggle with unless it's hands on learning and seeing it in person kind of thing.

I should really make a video on that topic!! Just to simplify it a bit, I start by looking at geological maps and compare my area to the geology of mineral localities around the world. After that it's all on foot and searching for indicators of the minerals that might form in those rocks🙂

This I feel.,that you should do, any time you found a small good piece of crystal. Stay at that spot and dig for the day..because that could lead to better Crystals.

That is probably the way to do it. I will probably return to these spots in the future, just takes time to dig around and find those larger pockets. It's also good to explore these areas just incase over the next hill there could be a better deposit or a more valuable mineral😉

Some great finds and loved the tree ladder. I love people who can think outside the box. 🙂

I've seen whole lines of people in Asia taking pegmatite chunks like that one with the large mica books smashing them open for gemstones.I do this also but have yet to find anything really good yet as far as precious goes but my friend with all due respect you should whack those open. You never know when a ruby may fall out

I do like to break open some pegmatite whenever I can, sometimes the dykes can be just too hard to break into with hand tools. Generally I like to look externally for indicator minerals, corundum generally forms in rocks that are low in silica around sillimanite, syenite, and amphibole. Lithium Tourmaline will form around lepidolite, clevelandite, and schorl. Samples are always a great idea for future reference too. When you see the right situation with indicators for the mineral your searching for then it is time to start spending some time breaking up rock.

Watch out for the tree climbing iguanas if the weather gets unusually cold. They've been known to fall out of the trees and conk people!

Take 2 x 4S make wedges out of them then drive them into between the rocks so you got foot holes

Just wondering do you leave the feldspar attached to the larger Quarts Cristal to be displayed?

I've never heard the name 'tessen habit', what exactly is that and what is the difference from quartz crystal?

Tessin habit is a type of quartz crystal, It just describes the formation. Tessin habit is where the quartz crystal is basically tapering from the base into a point looking like a six sided icicle😁

I'm not to sure how to describe it so here's a little copy and paste from wikipedia, there's just too many different varieties to give a simple description that covers them all🙂 "Feldspars are a group of rock-forming aluminium tectosilicate minerals, containing sodium, calcium, potassium or barium. The most common members of the feldspar group are the plagioclase (sodium-calcium) feldspars and the alkali (potassium-sodium) feldspars."

God,,,people are so secretive,,,its not like they find diamonds or gold,,,no wonder canada doesnt have any good areas,,everyon keeps areas to themselves,,, ,,whats wrong with giving an area,,you dont have to pinpoint,,but with more people looking we find more we get more people interested and maybe we could bc on the map

I'm in BC Canada. NY has some pretty awesome minerals though, what do you usually dig for over there? Always really liked that subway garnet and all the Herkimers from out that way🙂

@@NWRockExplorer I started really actually “getting into” minerals a few weeks ago. So far I’ve found garnets of course, lots of Corinthian agates, regular agates, Schist, a pretty piece of calcite, and this awesome quartz rock that has several crazy iron stained crystals all over it. All here in “the woods” of Yonkers, NY. Watching your video has given me an idea of what to look for, thank you
