Rive js a real 13 speed 2.3 cm rim. Compared to Destroyer 2.2cm rim and wraith 2.1cm rim. Nuke and Boss have 2.5cm rim. Max allowed by PDGA and should be labeled a 15 speed (max flight speed number) But the boss was the first disc faster than a destroyer so they called it a 13 speed and discraft copied.

Yeah it always bothered me a bit that Innova would make "faster" discs after putting out a 13 speed with a max width rim. Haven't seen a pro or anyone with any real power touch a single one of those Innova 14s, either. Makes me wonder who they bother making them for still.

@@BodanzaDiscGolf The Nukes (including SS and OS) are the only 3 discs Discraft produced with a 2.5cm rim. Innova likewise didn't make many with that size rim, but the 3 they did are the Boss (basically a Nuke) as well as the Katana and Colossus. That Colossus is probably very comparable to the Boss and Nuke in terms of stability, but is a touch taller.

@@MaxLBogue They make them because Dick’s Sporting Goods will stock them
Innova created the numbering system, and I believe until they released the Boss all of the speed ratings for fairway drivers and up were determined by rim width. All their 7 speeds have 17mm rims, all the 10 speeds have 20mm rims, and 12 speeds all 22. The Boss and Nuke both have 25mm, but are labeled 13 speeds.
The Rive is definitely a true 13 speed. The Nuke is more like a 14 speed. (Or 15 speed based on the rim width)

Flight numbers are dumb for speed, it should all be based purely on rim width but a lot of companies don’t do it that way.
An am with average arm speed throwing like 350 would likely benefit more from something just a bit less beefy like a Charger, Pharaoh or Sheriff.
You know I have to admit with your arm speed the way it is right now from your training, I feel like the nuke SS would match your ride in terms of you holding the lines just by two cents worth, but because it's just a little less stable, it would probably fit your rival slot. Really, really well for that big distance driver
I love the Rive! It's easily one of the best drivers I've ever thrown due to the fact that is is super glidey, while still maintaining decent stability. If you want a little bit more overstability just grab one in the Orbit plastic.

My domey orbit rives is really stable, the raptor eye rive is a little less stable
the Nuke is quite the disc. I have gotten to throwing Destroyers pretty well, then I take my Nuke out and don't feel as good hahaha I just purchased a Nuke SS to try out aside my Ezra Nuke to see how I like that
Loving your vids
Sick video! 100% agree the nuke feels more like a 13+ speed, comparable to the ballista/pro.
A bit late at the party and despite Boss being the direct competitor by numbers, try Blizzard Ape. It's beefier than Boss by numbers but the reduced weight makes it easier to throw. Closer to 140g it may become flippy but around and above 150g it might be just right. Because of Blizzard there's huge range of weights from around 135g to near 160g. Nuke is wonderful disc if you want something that blazes through the headwind, just keep it low.
You started on hole 4 not 1. Love that park!!!
Another great video.
Man, your forehand is looking great lately.
I feel too on the hand size. I'm a great big guy, but I have fairly small hands. 12 speeds are a little uncomfortable for me to grab and throw. Like I can do it, but a 10 speed rim feels a lot better to me
This course looks so beautiful 😍 Wish we would have courses like this in Austria 🇦🇹 right next to the lake, but they don’t allow course design where you throw over walking paths (I get it though, our parks are much more frequented and we don’t have so much free space to work with as in the 🇺🇸)
I looooove ti plastic. It’s their best imo.
You might enjoy the 2021 TS Nuke, perfectly gummy with great stability and skip.
I would love to see you try out the dynamic discs Raider. It is my go too
SPEED is clearly meant as how fast a disc travels from point A to B, regardless of the initial speed (it has to have some minimal speed to make it fly straight of course) - compared to other discs thrown with the same release velocity (initial speed). Therefore the numbers purely measure the aerodynamics of a disc, for example I can throw a very understable 7 speed fairway driver and an overstable 3 speed putter with a release velocity of 40mp/h and only measure the first 150 feet of their flight (so it doesn’t matter if the understable disc turns and burns later) - the 7 speed will travel this distance faster, ie will have more speed remaining after 150 feet than the putter. That’s the concept with the SPEED numbers and that’s what gives higher speed drivers the possibility to travel farther ( LESS AIR DRAG)
I'd love to see you try special max distance bomber discs like the Innova Boss, perhaps in Blizzard, the Nuke in a bit more understable premium plastic and OFC the Opto Ballista (NOT Pro) which is my longest driver yet, it just goes so far when I've gotten it nose down and somewhat high. Need to get a purple G* Destroyer soon... seems feel so nice and looks so nice in pictures...

"You shoot me down but I won't fall, I am titanium" :P
I think brands have a hard time keeping flight numbers consistent at the high end of speed. For example, Discraft has the Nuke at 13, which is their fastest speed, thus the rim is at the maximum regulation width, while MVP and Axiom have their 14.5 speed discs that also have max width rims. On the other hand, L64/Trilogy aren't making any discs that actually have a maximum width rim, yet they call their fastest (in-production) discs 14 speeds. I think that extra millimeter of rim width really sets those 'maximum speed' drivers in their own power class, because the arm speed required to have any semblance of control with those is unreal. I'm not super bothered by the numbers for this reason; if you're throwing those discs for actual distance and they fit in your bag at your arm speed, you won't need to know the numbers anyways. The Rive definitely leans pretty heavily to the soft side of its numbers, which puts it much closer to a stock Destroyer in terms of stability, but it is a really reliable bomber if you have the arm for that.
The YEET seems to be the Fireball of distance drivers lol
max weight MVP Fission Octane, or an Axiom Panic for more stability
A question you're ok with : I was wound if there was Disc that you would give away or let any one try? Still trying to find one that I can throw far
First run rive tends to be more flippy then other rives imo
Hope you make it out to Rochester for the AFDO silver series, I'll caddy for you
Get a sergeant they have become my favorite driver
The Titanium nuke is good new but when it beats in its money.
Why is nobody talking about how good that shirt is
Try the nuke in esp. Less os than ti by my experience. If you want distance go esp.
Yes the warbird is beefy and I hate it

@Hyzer Wyzer DG buy one and just start using it casually. I don't have a big power arm. But I can throw it pretty good. It was one of my first ten discs or so when I started playing again a few years ago.

Base plastic is used for putting by more than 9 out of 10 I'd say. Also approach discs in base or a bit more durable or gummy plastic is often used to stick where it lands. He used to use an Opto Pure before trying out a whole new bag, I think an Opto Pure will get back in the new bag as well ;)

@@Iliyena87 Hard putters are old school. If you can hit the pole, harder is better, because they have less flex out of your hand and are more consistent. I'm using an eco pure this year as it's stiffer than opto or gold, but has the softness of base line.
@Iliyena87

@@coast2coast00 Often there is only one base plastic available and 1 or 2 premium ones. Eg. I putt with Viking Rune in Ground and its more grippy in most weathers I'd say and the options are a Storm (Champion/Opto) and a stiffer called Armor (Star with metallic shine) in the Viking line so I go with the base plastic. The best thing is to throw hard enough to never go past the basket/trough more than half the chains no matter the plastic :P I'd like to try Eco some time, they are supposed to be a mixed regrind of discs that didn't come out right :P

Get you an Orbit Rive then! They are a little more overstable then normal runs.
You said the discraft bombers and left Adam Hammes out. Didn’t he just beat Ezra in a distance completion? 🤔
The biggest rims feel best in my hands. Unfortunately, I really don't have the speed to throw them. First world problems, I guess.....
A backhand is generally more useful on the pro tour but then are courses like Winthrop/USDGC which seem to heavily favor players with good forehands recently with the exception being James Conrad in 2019 so I wouldn't neglect the forehand too much. I've recently been doing work on my forehand and cracked 400 feet the first time the other day.
I love my nukes just gotta get the arm speed to push it correctly.

I defintely would've bagged the mayhem if you didn't call me on the foot fault but such is life!
Nuke and Rive are very different discs for very different shots, unless you dont have the arm to see a difference. The Nuke (a true 15 speed), when broken in, flies straight with a noticeable hook at the end. The Titanium Nukes tend to be the most overstable of the plastics. An ESP or BigZ Nuke will break in so a noodle arm can throw it, but really, why bother if you cant throw 500 feet? I use a Nuke as a headwind disc because the rim eats that air and gets that reliable distance. The Rive is more like a Force in feel and flight, better for less than pro arms. Rim widths: Nuke 2.5cm/Ballista Pro 2.4cm/Rive2.3cm = 15/14/13 speeds
NUKE beat Rive the whole round. Could you be overthinking it? BAG IT, BAG IT!! lol
“Everybody knows how when you throw an overstable disc on anhyzer you lose distance” That’s a rather confident statement and I think many people would disagree because it’s very case by case
@toddkauk6099
Жыл бұрын
I think he means that a maximum distance shot is a hyzerflip as the disc flies on hyzer, flat, turns, and then fades if throw correctly with enough height. Anhyzer shots/forced over do not get the same distance. He is correct.

I'm never going to have a pro arm. So, I don't care what the pro's throw. If I was 25 years younger the story would probably be different. Anything more than a 10 speed is too much for me realistically.

Titanium Nukes are very overstable and glideless. I wasn't impressed with the couple I've thrown. ESP and Z Nukes are way easier to deal with.
