    I have a question. I currently have a 13 month old son and currently have another baby on the way next summer. As someone who has children yourself. Did you hold off on making the dedicated home theatre space until they were a certain age, or did you create a cinema space for between nappy changes?

    here’s my biggest thing. You need to get to the bottom of why you want one. You need to be sure that it’s not just to impress others, and you need to tell the difference between a temporary enjoyable activity and a long term hobby and relaxation method. It’s not worth putting the time money and effort into something that you end up only using to it’s full potential one a month like I do now. Used it almost every day for about a year and a half and now the hobby has faded and I use it as a theater about once a month. Now I just use it to watch tv. Receiver needs factory reset and redo calibration but I just haven’t found it necessary. Make sure you know you’re in it for the long run before dishing out the funds

    Your room is absolutely awesome Tony. I have watched all of your videos but haven't commented on them. My dream of having a dedicated room has come unstuck due to Covid. As you might be aware here in Australia the cost of building materials have sky rocketed and not to mention there is a shortage of building supplies. My extension (which included a Theatre Room) would have been completed months ago if the world was normal. I will have to wait for things to stabilise, but who knows how long that will be......Anyway, keep the videos coming Tony, you're keeping my dream alive. Oh......and a dedicated Theatre Room is definitely worth it for sure !!!

    This video does a great job of highlighting pros and cons. There are times that the cons are vast, but when you get go into your own theater and enjoy the hard work and countless hours spent - 100% worth it! I agree with the 1st con - MONEY! Good lord...I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started this hobby a few years ago. I don't regret it at all, but still surprising at times. The awesome thing about HT is that it is all scalable. You've had a few videos about budget and paths to upgrade. This is an important thing for people to remember. You can make an awesome setup that fits almost any budget. Always fun to see a cameo of myself that is unexpected. I forgot that we shot footage for the PS5 😆

    Great topic to cover Tony, you totally nailed the pros and cons! I definitely reckon it’s worth it. The enjoyment I get from my room is beyond measure. Being in there takes me to another place where I can forget about life for a while! I think the biggest con for me is finding the time to actually enjoy the room as much as I’d like to. For ages I’ve spent so much of my time worrying about making minor sound/vision tweaks, or what the next equipment upgrade would be, or how I could make my room better. What I realised was, I had no time left to actually enjoy my room. I now just focus on finding the time to use the room purely to enjoy movies and music, and to be happy and content with my room the way it is……and I’ve never enjoyed it more! No matter how big or small the room, no matter the budget, ultimately it’s all about the enjoyment this hobby brings!

    Great, honest summing up of a home theatre. I would say the biggest con is the cost, biggest pro is the flexibility of watching a movie anytime (and not having to spend hours for the whole process I getting there and sitting through ads), the biggest surprise is how hard it is convincing the rest of the family to go watch a move in the HT as opposed to the family room tv.

    I have to fight this battle every single day Tony, reflecting on was investing in a dedicated HT all worth it especially when Cinemas have started to open up and now the day and date releases will be over in 2022. It's a constant battle I guess. What I have come to realize is that the most important factor in owning a dedicated HT is the sense of "ownership" and feeling proud about it and letting yourself "unwind" and getting lost (escapism) is worth the price of admission.

    Interesting video. But alternately one can buy a portable 100" projection screen with stand, a 1080p or 4K projector that has Bluetooth (or connect your streaming stick with Bluetooth) to your stereo or paired Bluetooth speakers or 2.1 soundbar for a home theater experience in a spare bedroom or den room. I did that summer 2020 until we moved into a new home this summer with dedicated media room. No matter what level of cash one wants to spend it's never been easier to setup a movie-theater-like experience at home.

  • @4fastdrs

    65" mu850 upstairs in the bedroom. 75"QN90A in the living room paired with the Q950A soundbar. 85" QN800A in the dedicated home theater room in the basement with a 5.2.2 set up. And I can honestly say from the oldest TV in the bedroom all the way down to the theater room there's movies and TV shows I would, and would not want to watch on each screen. Before setting up the dedicated home theater, I legitimately questioned the logic of spending so much money for a room that doesn't get used that often. I settled on a Max of 2% of the home's value for the budget. (🤔not for any justifiable reason. I'm a realtor, that's just how my brain works.) And $26,000 later the theater room is done... and I still have another 10k to go, 🤫🤫🤫 don't tell my wife, lol . Planning on adding the Samsung LSP9T UST and a 130" retractable screen to the setup. The theater room is great, but a word of caution if you set up a dedicated home theater room, at least in our case it can be a bit much for everyday viewing. I definitely would not want this to be the only TV viewing experience in the house. If you only have a living room to use for every day TV and, home theater viewing as well, I can definitely recommend the Q950A soundbar for those with Samsung TVs. The utterly ridiculous screen placement on the soundbar, is not an issue once it's set up. But that's only because the Samsung TV displays almost all of the sound bars info, not sure how you would get along with it if you had a different TV brand. With that Soundbar paired with QSymphony on the TV, we get about 85% of the home theater experience of the theater room. And if I didn't have the space for a theater room I would definitely be satisfied with the living room setup. Something to be mindful of, be very aware of what light sources are across from your TV screen, we have a wall of Windows directly across from our living room TV and with the 85" upstairs for the first few days before the theater room was finished that big-screen caught a lot of reflections. It's bright enough the power through the ambient light in the room but when there's dark scenes Reflections can be extremely distracting. After reviewing how the best TV in the industry deals with Reflections, I could never recommend an OLED for any room that has Windows in it.

    Great info although I don’t see any cons to having one😎. I do have a basement and we had the theater designed from the first blueprints thankfully. My wife would be out on the speakers and such in the living room for sure. Mine is also plain without any decor to speak of. We have black cloth panels covering the ceiling, black curtains like we see in some big theaters. We just changed to black carpet and the picture looks absolutely gorgeous! The black carpet absorbs much more light reflection than the other carpet we had. There’s still enough light to be able to leave while the movie is playing. We enjoy having friends and family in over for dinner and movie night as they call it ha.

    There's no space in my house for a dedicated room. But my living room theater happens to work really well. We don't have any light control, so we can only watch movies at night on the projector. I'm OK with that because I don't like to be inside on a nice day, and in SoCal, almost every day is a nice day. I like how cozy it is to watch a movie on a regular sofa. In my room, the speaker placement isn't ideal, but happens to be very good. To be significantly better would require major acoustic design, a much larger space and better speakers. However, if I had the space, I'd likely make a dedicated theater that looks more like a living room, but with ideal speaker placement and light control. My dad has a really nice dedicated theater that I designed many years ago. It's in his guest house. Despite having to sometimes go out in the rain to use it, he still does on a regular basis. It's an event, like going out to a movie theater when he used his home theater.

Would painting the ceiling black help reduce this first-world problem 🤔. I'm thinking of painting the room in a grey colour scheme similar to yours. • @kovrcek
    @kovrcek Жыл бұрын

    You don't need a dedicated room at all! I just use a living room with retractable screen in front of TV/furniture. You don't even need new stuff, all can be bought used, even audiophile quality. So that means little investment is needed to try if you like it or not. Of course you have to compromise a lot in this case but still better than to invest thousands and never use the room. When it's in the living room you have to use it :D Still the sound is very decent and detailed (usually better than in cinema, for example even the best local cinemas don't go very low in bass like 20hz or lower), you get to sit always in perfect angle to the screen, with bass shakers you get a nice tactile response for big monsters, can rewatch your favorite scenes, watch movies that are no longer in theaters, even some super old ones in 3D etc. Super immersive!

    If you plan to watch movies often then ye, home theater is a must. I have a cheap 300 seater theater near me that does £8 movies. But these seem to attract low class people. I've gone there 3 times, all times, people chatting in-between action scenes, on their phones etc. The only good cinema experiences I have had is when I went to bfi imax, tickets cost £30 for a movie but with great expense it usually filters out annoying people. My experience was much better. But after 100 movies that would cost me £3000. I setup a 120 inch projector in my room with 5.1 audio (only thing space allows) and I'm much happier.
