In this video we talk all about the Pros and Cons of living in Williamsburg, Virginia. If you're moving to Williamsburg, or even thinking about it, then this video is a must watch. I think you'll find that there's a lot more to like about Williamsburg than there is to dislike, but it's certainly not for everybody. I hope that by watching this video, you'll get a sense for what the culture is like in Williamsburg, and a little bit about how life as a resident differs from life as a tourist here. For example, when you live here, you may never eat at the colonial restaurants. Instead, you'll find favorites in the area and spend your time exploring all the great food options Williamsburg has to offer. The cons of living in Williamsburg are big enough that they can have a serious impact on whether or not you live there. Like the fact that housing is expensive is going to make living in Williamsburg a non-starter for many people. At the end of the day, I think Williamsburg is one of the truly special places to live in the entire United States.
PROS:
#1: History - Williamsburg is filled with a rich history that dates back over 400 years
#2: Food & Drink: Williamsburg has some of the best restaurants in all of Hampton Roads! Amber Ox, Opus 9, and Blue Talon Bistro are all great, to name just a few. Williamsburg also has several fantastic breweries, like Precarious, Virginia Beer Company, and Alewerks! There's also the Williamsburg Winery, Silverhand Meadery, and Copper Fox Distillery all in town!
#3: Shopping - Williamsburg has great shopping, including the Williamsburg Premium Outlets, shopping at New Town, and great traditional plazas like Monticello Marketplace
#4: Parks and Trails: Williamsburg is filled with great parks and trails the are spread out perfectly around the region. New Quarter Park, Waller Mill Park, Freedom Park, and York River State Park are all amazing. There are also many great trail systems, like the Greenspring Trails, Matoaka Trails, and the Capitol Trail.
#5: The School System - As I mention in the video, as a realtor, I'm not allowed to give my personal opinion on the schools. But I can reference great resources like niche.com, who give the Williamsburg Schools an A rating and rank them 3rd in Hampton Roads and 8th in all of Virginia (out of 131)
#6: Golf! Williamsburg has 9 golf courses and golf course communities. Giving you many options within a 15 minute drive or even right out your back door
#7: Gated Communities: I know safety is of the utmost importance to many home owners. You'll find that Williamsburg has more than a few gated communities to choose from, with different levels of access restrictions
#8: Luxury Homes: If you're looking for a big, beautiful, high end home, then you're sure to find it in Williamsburg. Governors Land, Ford's Colony, and Kingsmill are just a few neighborhoods you should take a look at
9: 55+ Communities: Williamsburg has three 55+ Communities, the largest of which is Colonial Heritage, which has nearly 1800 Homes, and also features a beautiful golf course, gated access, and many amenities and clubs
CONS:
#1: The Commute: Many residents of Williamsburg work outside of the area, quite often down at the Newport News Shipyard, Langley Air Force Base, or at Fort Eustis. Or they head the other direction up to Richmond. Whichever it is, you could be looking at a 30-45 minute commute depending on where you're going
#2: No Night Life: A common complaint among young people, Williamsburg tends to shut down around 9 or 10pm. This is definitely a town built around people who need to get up early for work, or are just past the point in their life where anything fun happens after midnight!
#3: Hilly Landscape: While the Peninsula is completely flat, Williamsburg tends to be kind of hilly, which can make finding a home with a large, flat yard a challenge!
#4: Home Prices: Williamsburg is more expensive than most of the surrounding area due to it's high demand

I certainly wouldn't want to speak on their behalf, but there are often opportunities to speak directly with them in Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown
