To be honest, my favorite part of this Gartic Phone series is the animators' reaction to their own work. One of the reasons, I think, is because each guy knows more or less what he's capable of. You not only have to trust that the other people know what they're doing, but that your frame made enough sense to follow. When it works out, you're not just happy that the animation is good, but you're perhaps even more happy that you worked on a team of competent people who could work quickly, intelligently and on their feet. What they're experience, in a lot of ways, is what a military team experiences. You can give orders, but that only takes you so far. There are times when you have to just trust that your teammates can read a situation, take hints and do their job, and when they can, you feel elevated yourself.
Having open communication between the artists on what they're drawing after all those context-less animations is like taking the training weights off in an anime.

I’m also an artist with aphantasia and I loved the conversation you guys had about it! The way you explained it is really good, I couldn’t really figure out how to explain it to my friends. It’s nice to see more people talking about it and spreading the word, because a lot of people just live their lives without knowing that it’s different for people. It really gives you a change of perspective and insight into how unique everyone truly is.
@Dude-hs7zm

I definitely don’t have anphantasia because I can and have pictured things in my head many times, but sometimes I just can’t. And I do wonder if a lot of people have trouble with consistency in their inner image production too. (I also just find it cool that funnily enough, I’ve only ever heard artists talk about how they have aphantasia. Maybe it’s just because in visual art you’re more likely to talk about/ “need” to use that mental imagery than most other jobs. But either way it’s pretty inspiring to see how people pursue the same thing in different ways.)
The funniest part about aphantasia is that a lot of artists have it. It’s probably just because we use our art as a way of visualizing things for us because we can’t do it ourselves. Like a weird coping mechanism.

7:53 holy shit this opened my eyes, also the talk about a blind man trying to think about the volume of a shape is perfect. I know what a character is supposed to look like, how their clothes would move when they walk, their faces when painted different emotions, but I can never *see* them. The only time I actually have visuals is when I dream and even then I can barely make out things, only a few things sticking out which I usually use as inspiration for whenever I write/want to make something

Oh my god I am the _EXACT_ same way. I can visualize stuff when my eyes are open just fine, but when I close them its much harder. Its as if the blackness is distracting somehow lol. Like, when ppl say "close your eyes and picture an apple" its muddled, but then if I just skip step one and go straight to the apple picturing with my eyes open then BAM it works great. I always figured that maybe my brain has an easier time visualizing when my eyes are open since it's already getting visual stimuli....? Who knows 🤷♀️.
This is literally the coolest thing I’ve seen all week, I’m baffled by how well everything fits together, I love their excitement, this is everything I’ve ever wanted.
I’ll be the first to admit that when Ross started talking about being unable to “see things when you close your eyes” (aphantasia), it took me way longer than it should have to realize he meant “to make a mental image” and not “to project an f-ing echolocation hologram into your eyes like Daredevil”

I mostly see it all black, but like some flashes of blurry images appears if i think hard enough Unfortunately i for some reason can't keep my eyes closed for long (i usually have something on top of them to help me sleep, tho as far as i know, i dont sleep with eyes open). I'm also a bit curious about this tho Like, i can imagine things with eyes wide open, but everything is blank once i close them and i can only image if i think super hard for it, but really really messy that it's hard to see if it's really an image or just light seeping through my eyes as i try to keep them closed, at most it's only flashes of what I'm seeing right now before it goesfully black It's weird cuz idk how to explain it, i see everything around me but alsowhen i daydream i can see the images in my head with open eyes but nit at the same time I don't even know if I'm making sense, it's pretty weird for me as well

I'm the opposite, ironically. My imagination is ridiculously powerful to the point I'm effortlessly able to imagine any sight, sound or even taste or smell (though the last is significantly harder, as is touch). The issue for me comes with actually replicating those ideas into reality because... it's hard to explain but sometimes they're things that just make sense but don't exist / have no form? Like I can see it in my mind but it couldn't exist in reality, so I have to approximate.

I literally just learned that some people don’t actually see any images in their imagination … I’m so shocked. That Tails and Lola hand animation was AMAZING. No one anticipated that, with it brushing away the smoke! Perfection.
24:04 woah, that looks truly amazing! Props to you guys!!!
This is the most insane video I’ve ever seen. You all are so talented!

Dude that was the most amazing and wholesome thing I've watched in a while! The creativity and the harmony is overwhelming! Every single one of the animators has my respect and I sincerely hope they go places!
Can we all agree that Juny is the fucking goat, so talented yet so humble, he was a teamplayer

I think I've maybe watched this like 10 times by now. The sheer joy and hype just oozing from all of the talented individuals in this video is just contagious. F*cking outstanding, dude.
This seems trivialized by the fact it's being done in a video game, but make no mistake, this is a beautiful form of art. This is the equivalent of visual jazz. This is the fusion of masters of their craft, coming together in a free-form, from the heart expression of art. This process of creating art should be appreciated for the beauty that it is and be utilized much more by artists.
I just sat here with a stupid ass grin on my face for an hour straight. That was amazing. Can't believe how well these turned out. Also Juny is *insane*, cannot believe that dude is only 17.

Going to keep asking, and I'm not sure Ross probably has a list of ideas, but a movie of magical girl transformations into something at the end. Would be interesting to see what everyone comes up with.

I legit just keep coming back to this vid over and over and I never lose the smile I had from the first time that I saw all these amazing people work on something that brought them all so much joy!
I love when you guys do Gartic Phone normally, but this was amazing!
Pro animators are used to working for 4 hours straight, but never for such hype results. Since they traded off so often, they never had to feel bored working on the same thing. But they were able to rely on eachother to finish what was already started!

I just love that these vids are all these artists just gushing about each other’s talents. Animation is so difficult and tedious, so things just coming to life after you contribute a single frame or two must feel magical
