    I just made the switch to tofu litter yesterday and im already loving it. The clumping properties make it so much easier to scoop and clean (i was using breeder celect recommended by the cattery all this time). The tracking is honestly very minimal compared to before. I take about half the time i used to cleaning the litterboxes for my two rascals twice daily now T. T

    I used the same grass seed one for years, but it attracts bugs. I had some moths that ended up loving it and it’s like a breeding ground for moths. My cat also would eat the clumps once in a while (so gross), but he never tries to eat Dr elsey’s ultra clay. I also tried a lot of others including wheat, corn, etc, but I always eventually go back to Dr elsey’s while I try to look for alternatives. I tried Tuft and paw tofu litter recently and it’s great. It just didn’t really cover up the smell that well. I clean the Litterbox daily, but I notice it smells worse than other litter. I did like tofu litter so I might try Pidan as well. Thank you for the review.

    The only reason why I do not use tofu litter is because I am very worried my cats would eat the tofu litter after reading reviews from some cat parents that use tofu litter! I have been doing research on the best cat litter that do not stick on cat paws and no dust, right now I am using Dr Elsey’s Precious Cat Ultra Clumping litter, it is not dusty at all but occasionally still have tiny particles on my cats’ paws so it is still not ideal. 😅

    Hey there, been following your content for a while and now have two ragdoll kittens of my own. Like you I was also being driven mad by the amount of tracking from the litter I was originally using and just recently switched to the same brand of tofu litter you recommended. Both of them adjusted immediately and seem to love it, but I am not sure if I am filling up my boxes with enough of it. With 3 litter boxes (mine are slightly wider than the Modkat XL you are using), how many of the 5 lb bags would you recommend ordering per month?

  • @TheCatButler

    @TheCatButler

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey good question and glad you found that the tofu litter works! so for my modkat litter box it takes about one bag and 1/4 to fill, and that remaining bag would last me to the end of the month topping it. then I would clean the litter box. So roughly 2 bags a month for me per litter box which equates to 4 per month. You can try 6 a month for your litter box setup at first. If that doesn't work maybe 7 or 8 a month would do the trick since your litter box is bigger. How many bags per litter box are you using now? Let me know if that helps! Also in the future if you plan to get more tofu litter, we also carry that brand as well in Teemo and Arya's cat store. We would love to help take care of any of your cat's needs. thecatbutler.co/products/tofu-cat-litter?selling_plan=1087570114

    @@TheCatButler Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! My boxes are just slightly longer (maybe 3-4 inches) than the Modkat XL and so far I have just started with one pack per box. However, I do notice they quickly dig to the bottom of the box every time they go, so I was suspecting it might be better to try using a little more. The amount you are using sounds reasonable although that does mean that I am paying $30 per box with this litter per month, a bit pricey indeed, especially if I decide to continue using 3 boxes! I initially got that amount based on advice from my breeder and the conventional wisdom of having n+1 boxes for n cats, but in practice what I am seeing is that they are using one of the three boxes on the main level far more often than the other two. So realistically I might end up needing less, especially if I eventually choose to remove one of the three boxes. And that's something I might have to think about also since since I am now also considering replacing my cheap starter litter boxes with Modkat XL's, and buying 3 would be very pricey!

  • @TheCatButler

    @TheCatButler

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah no prob! I try to be timely with my comments. I agree with your thought process! I think the modkat litter boxes are just so big that the n+1 boxes are not needed. One box can almost fit both my cats and if you clean once a day there is still plenty of room for their waste. n + 1 maybe the rule for traditional boxes since they are smaller. Hope that helps!

    Hey great question! The liner is for people who don't like cleaning, they can just replace it. Sometimes the night before I catch I plane for vacation I may not have time so just dumping the litter out and just putting a new liner in is a time saver. But most of the time I just clean it. The liner is super durable. So you don't need to really buy new ones too often.

    I used to use clay litter but my cat developed a really bad cough so I switched to pine. It's been like 3 or so years now and his cough is a lot better but he does still sometimes cough, probably from the long term damage :( Pine works for me because it is so cheap. I have a sifting litter box so I scoop the poop and then sift the used litter to the below box and dump it. As far as the poop smell goes, usually I just scoop it throughout the day if it stinks. But luckily my cat usually only poops once a day so it's not too bad! I would consider tofu cat litter if it wasn't so expensive. The pine is just too cheap to pass up. You can get around 8x as much pine litter for the same price as tofu litter from what I've seen. But if not for that I'd probably switch just because I miss the clumping litter which was a lot quicker to clean.

  • @TheCatButler

    @TheCatButler

    Жыл бұрын

    Oh no! How did you diagnose the cough. Did a vet take a look at it? Yeah indeed pine is cheaper. How much do you get pine for? The hard to clean aspect was definitely something that made me switch

    @@TheCatButler I took him to the vet and they literally couldn't find anything wrong with him. Told me to give him allergy medicine but it didn't help. I also tried switching his water bowl in case it was that (he had a plastic one and I switched to ceramic) but that didn't help either. I ended up realizing it was the litter because I had switched him to a clay litter that had more dust and afterward was when the cough started, so I just put 2 and 2 together eventually. I confirmed it because his coughing got better after switching to pine, and now it's a few years later and it's almost completely gone. I usually pay around $20 for a 40lb bag. I live in Florida so it's humid here and sometimes if the bag has a hole in it, some of the litter will be dust when it arrives which sucks, but overall it's still worth it because it's so cheap.

    Pine litter is the choice for me. Just buy it at home depot. It costs nothing. I literately take out the pee (in the 2nd tray) once every 7-10 days. No smell whatsoever. Guests approved. But you need to buy a litter box with 2 trays. Edit - cat is able to cover the Nr2 no problem although I usually am around when he does that so I take it out immediately (he’s on raw meat so his bowel movement is like a clock). I use the brand "PeeWee" EcoHus for my British Shorthair kitten (8months).

  • @EmmaVB82

    @EmmaVB82

    Жыл бұрын

    I got the PeeWee EcoDome (XXL version) for my Maine Coons, as well as their wood pellets. I really want to like the system, but my cats are struggling to switch! 😔 They’re a little over a year old, and have been using Catsan Hygiene Plus their whole life (rec from their breeder), which is non-clumping - basically a white granulated/crystalline sandy gravel sort of thing made from lime and quartz (so no clay at least). It tracks a bit which is annoying, though it’s nowhere near as bad as the Catsan Natural clumping litter - my neighbours whose Ragdolls I catsit for use this, and while I’m envious of their clumping and scooping situation, I don’t think I could deal with all that tracking! I want to switch from the Catsan Hygiene litter because: a) it’s dusty - when I pour it in to the box there are full dusty clouds and I either have to hold my breath and do it in stages, or literally wear an N95 mask (I have asthma), and while it’s thankfully not silica I still worry about my cats noses and lungs - they’ll often come out of the litterbox with bright white nostrils from sniffing around, and they don’t share my sense of humour when I make jokes about them having a drug problem and snorting lines of class A substances 😂 (I at least try to amuse myself!) b) since you’re not removing any clumps of pee and it just soaks into the supposedly odour neutralising granules, it ends up stinky way too quickly, even if I scoop the poop essentially straight away (and if I’m finding it stinky from outside of the box, it must be ten times stronger and more unpleasant for my cats actually inside - they also have the Catit Jumbo covered litterbox). Then you really have to throw the whole lot out and start again, which is both a hassle to do at least once a week, as well as seeming wasteful. I’ll often try and do partial litter changes by just scooping out areas where the “used” (and stinky/discoloured/often damp) litter is most obvious, which helps a bit… but it’s still not great. I tried a gradual shift over to the pine pellets from the Catsan… put the new box where the old box was, and just shifted the old box sideways a bit (though I don’t plan on having two boxes side by side long term), and sprinkled quite a bit of Catsan on top of the pellets so it was more familiar, and put a couple handfuls of wood pellets into the old box as well. I purposely cleaned the old box a bit less to make the new one more appealing in comparison, and at first it seemed to be working great! Both cats used the new box ok, though still preferred the old one… then after a couple days I’d accidentally run out of Catsan, so after cleaning that box out I left it empty. This seemed to be an issue - both cats would go into the EcoDome, turn around and dig a bit, then get out and try and get into the old empty box. I ended up turning it round so the door was facing the wrong way (I didn’t have anywhere else I could move the old box to, and I didn’t plan on getting rid of it just like that!), but this was possibly more confusing and upsetting for the door to be gone from their perspective - one of my cats even managed to wriggle her way into the empty box around the back (and got stuck inside and needed rescuing because it wasn’t set up with enough space for the door to swing back out! 😸). The other one seemingly went on poo strike and just didn’t go at all for about a day and a half 🫢 then when my Catsan delivery arrived, boy did he make up for lost time… we both had a very unpleasant few days with a lot of toilet visits, his upset tummy, and a lot of cleanup from his long fluffy pants! 🫣 I’ve kept the EcoDome set up in the same spot, but I think only one cat has used it one time since then 🫤 And of course they only decided the EcoDome was terrible *after* I’d spend £30 getting 18kg pellets beyond the initial small starter pack… I also hugely regretted my life choices when it came to cleaning it out - while I loved there was no smell at all, I hated the damned Catsan litter blocking the sifting holes! 😫 If you haven’t always been using wood pellets and have any advice on switching over (or if anyone else reading this does!) then I’d be very eager to hear it 😊

    I just switched to tofu litter, but my cat eats the tofu litter... Not sure how to fix this problem. Did you ever notice your cats eating tofu litter in the beginning?

    Hey Jacquelyn how often does your cat eat it? And is it frequently? My cats never ate it in the beginning

    I heard/ read that it's ok for them to ingest it, but not in the long run. Maybe have your cat checked just to make sure there's no pica? :O

    @@TheCatButler Since I just starting to using it yesterday, I've seen 2 times.. I'm unsure what attracts her to eat it. Maybe the smell of the tofu litter? it smells like vanilla tho.

    Hey Jacquelyn we will probably need to do some process of elimination. 1. how old is your cat? Kittens usually take some time to learn a new litter. 2. Cat can be anxious and stressful when something changes in their daily life. Like having a new person in the household or change in the litter box. They may act out by eating cat litter or peeing outside the litter box. Does your cat do the peeing outside the litter box? If so its possible your cat hasn't fully adjusted to the cat litter. One way you can transition your cat to the new litter is to gradually change it from your old litter to the new one. So you can slowly add tofu cat litter to the clay. you add more every time you see that the cat doesn't eat the litter. That way they slowly adapt to the new cat litter. Usually this is how you transition a cat litter from one to the next. 3. Did the cat's diet change? sometimes cats supplement missing nutrients by eating litter. 4. Is their weight loss vomiting or weakness in your cat? Which do you think it falls under?

    cleaning pine litter is not easy to do, and it doesn't mask the smell well for poop. hope that helps!
