If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :)

If you want to know HOW I make my videos including gear, lighting, all the tiddly bits that connect it all together, (with cheaper alternatives and kit I used to use), I've listed each item, what it's great at, and why I use it on the gear section of my website here:

It's more like B&Q and a Cash n Carry got jiggy. I think their trading model is to buy branded goods, restrict the choice to best sellers, and purchase by the million to to keep the unit price down. If you have a sweet tooth, Home Bargains has all the stuff from childhood you had forgotten existed.

Being from Liverpool I know some of the longstanding local jokes (and the Liverpool sense of humour) . There's a suburb right out on the edge of the city called Speke. Originally it was a small village with the Elizabethan Speke Hall (now owned by The National Trust). It has a vast council estate, industrial estates and the city's airport. This chap was in the city centre and wanted to go to Speke but wasn't sure which bus to get. A bus arrived at the stop so he asked the driver: "Eh mate, is this bus going to Speke." The driver said: "I doubt it." The man was puzzled: "What do you mean?" The driver replied: "Well it's not said a word all day."

One fella on the comments said 'Henry Hill is just corrupt', so I responded with 'Well he did say ever since he was a kid he always wanted to be a gangster'...... Whooosh! Straight over his head. He came back with some stuff about how he couldn't speak about his past but he's defo bent now.

The main reason Greggs don't have many shops in London is the overheads, an average shop for them up North will cost them £40k per year but a shop in London might cost them upwards of £250k per year. I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne and we have them on every street corner because people don't have much disposable income, that's why Pret a Manger and other chains tend to fail up North.

My opinion is that Liverpool’s Chinatown looks to be more for Chinese people who live in Liverpool rather than tourists as it seems quite “residential” to me. But if you're having trouble with the international student thing, just reach out to the admissions committee of your chosen universities via mail, and request them to get on a zoom call or something with you. Most universities are more than happy to have a representative do that. You can subsequently ask any questions you might have for them, and they will be happy to answer them for you. Just word of advice from experience, the process itself is not difficult, just rather long, and it's easy to panic and feel like exhausted. But most of it is straightforward and simple, and you should have no trouble with the entire thing as long as you have the correct documents ready (they will let you know what those required documents are). Thank you Evan this is heartwarming to watch! We got such bad press for years (and still do) so it's great to see a foreigner talk about Liverpool like that and also one that has experienced London for so long. Sorry about the mud but you were basically in a muddy river estuary. The sediment is very fine which is also why the water is an uninviting muddy brown too. Formby is a bit less muddy and is only a couple more train stops. Thanks again though for the positivity!

My partner and will be moving to Calgary next year to do what you’ve done: finally be able to buy a home and start feeling more secure in our housing and finances. Congrats on finally escaping landlord hell, lmao. I'm from Liverpool but live down south now. The best beach along the Mersey was at New Brighton on the Wirral side. So in the 30s I think the council decideto build a promenade to attract tourists. This changed the river current so the beach washed away and increased the sand bar in the middle of the river so they had to put a light ship in plce to warn the ships or else they'd run aground. The beahes from Formby to Southport are really nice. Southport is a great litle resort.. Best beaches around the rish Sea. Probably North Wales. Bala being famous but there are others just as nice with beautiful flat white sand.

Should definitely visit Chester when you can. Also as someone from the Wirral who spent 4 months in Luton one of the biggest north south divides i experienced was the total lack of shops like 'Bargin Booze'. And trying to explain it to people in the south without perpetuating the "northerners have a drinking problem" thing was very difficult

I feel like you dislike a lot of northern places until you spend proper time there then you end up liking them ahahah When you were in london it was always "Liverpool blackpool leeds manchester ew". Now liverpool is on the "good" list because you've actually been there for longer than a couple days - I feel like a lot of places in the UK would appeal to you if you spent proper time there!

I grew up in Liverpool. Now Live in Manchester. It's a great city! My friends in Manchester always take the piss out of me though because I will forever call Home Bargains "The 'ome and Bargain" in pure Scouse fashion. Really glad you've shared this because it gets a lot of bad press from the economic decline in the 80s. We got so much EU objective one funding for regeneration. Like every big city it has its fair share of social problems but it's no worse than anywhere else!

You're right about UNESCO. The project that led them to their decision was Everton Football Club renovating an abandoned dock into a new stadium. A move that will completely change that end of the city and be worth billions to the local economy. The club have also preserved the culturally significant landmarks and are working them into the stadium design, aswell as designing the new stadium to be inkeeping with the architectural history of the area. Seemed like a really unfair decision by UNESCO

The stadium wasn’t the reason, that’s in an industrial part of north Liverpool It’s the skyscrapers built closer to the liver building etc that changed the landscape

From the pros of this video sounds like you might like Bristol! From what I can gather it's kind of like a cross of Liverpool and London, but smaller. I was amazed that a city could be so nice when I moved there for uni (although I hate that it is so spenny). Also love that Evan is appreciating the rest of the country, knowing a lot of Londoners, they drive me mad so often with their ignorance and underappreciation of places in the UK outside of London
