I don't use a wheelchair currently but deal with the oh-so-fun real ness of an Invisible Disability/Illness. Thank you for sharing your sense of humor with us. Running into people's ankles...so funny. But some people absolutely deserve it!

One con that I can think of is getting to public restrooms in time or more to the point finding one that you can get into. Other then that Great Video!!!

I'm a kid and I recently broke my hip and I can't walk now. I LOVE being in a wheelchair. I go most places barefoot, everybody opens doors for me and clears paths. I go super fast at school and the teachers don't care. My wheelchair has things on the back of it that people stand on and I can give people rides for 1$ each. Also I can run into people That are annoying me or are mean and then act like it was an accident.

i'm currently wheelchair bound when I'm outside of my house. I have some server back pain in my lower and middle back so at times i can't even stand up so..... but i'm not permanently in one. but what i love about being in one is that i can customize my ride i'm not one who like to show off things but i at least want my favorite color. i don't see an cons when i'm in it. i LOVE being different and i can able wheel myself next to my friends or any one else i'm with as easily as i would walk. yes there are things you need to master but after that its pretty easy.

Great video! I was really down and out about needing a walker, so I decided I'd get a great color. My friends sent me "Supernatural" stickers and now it makes me smile. Customizing your wheels, be they walker (rollator like mine) or wheelchair (like yours) is great!

i grew up in MA near NH and yea...winters suck. i live in NM now, winter doesn't bother me so much anymore. :) the biggest con is stupid people who think being in a wheelchair makes you incapable of very basic things like opening a door or taking an item off a shelf in a store.

Yeah right. Those spots are always taken by lazy people who use the placard of an often-lazy relative. I refuse to park in Handicap spots. I leave them for the lazy people. I'm T-10 complete.

One other Con about wheelchairs is conversations. If someone is behind you or in front of you it's hard to hear them

occasional con of the cinema one: sometimes they're a small cinema so they don't have wheelchair seating and you're stuck at the very front contorting your neck into unnatural positions trying to watch the film

Felix Henson The theatre I always go to has the handicap seats in the back, but on occasion when my friends and I go to a different theatre, the handicap seats are in the front and it's super dumb. Fix your shit movie theatres

Yes, I was never comfortable wearing leggings as pants unless I was at home but now I don't feel self-conscious at all! I also have this cute pair of shoes that I could never wear before because they were a little bit too big on me and they would fall off while I was walking, and now I can wear them all of the time with no problem :) The biggest problem that I have in a wheelchair is that my house is not accessible at all! There are even two stairs to get to the bathroom from my room and six stairs to get outside.

What a great video. I just recently started using a wheelchair (also a Ki Rogue) and the hills are the worst...but going down the hill is AWESOME!! The rain does suck, and Texas has a horrible rainy season. Another pro (at my college at least) is that disabled students get priority access to the elevators...I've actually asked people which ones are getting out because I'm not waiting again!! Oh yeah...I started using the wheelchair because of pain/mobility issues, and I'm starting to prefer it because it's easier and less painful!

I have ms but got one night paralysed but after many efforts i stood on my feet ..this illness can hit me hard and make me paralyse or gives me pains or loose my vision but i'm ok ..with many problems but i can stand on my feet i can walk good i can run too but for a bit not more time becouse i get so freaking tired and pain comes to me ..my legs my arms anything ..or i can't do exercise becouse i easy get tired most of people say that i have nothing on me becouse it doesn't seems on me and many of them misunderstands me and this piss me off for some reason but it's okey those who play it smart will understand one day what is like to have illness and have to avoid things ..well i really wanna say that your smile is precious so keep doing it and what you do is worth it i believe you deserve the best life like every person here ..i just wanted share my experience

Oh god...I live around Seattle, and rain plus hills/bumps/POTHOLES are such a PITA. Thankfully we don't have to deal with snow all that much, but ice is still an issue.

My cup holder on my powerchair has been amazing. At school i keep pencils in it and it's just great. Also, if your chair has the ability, a fannypack is amazing! Like I keep medical supplies and snacks and gum in it

Whilst wearing boots that had the synthetic leather that was almost like plastic (and several layers of socks underneath them!), with my foot not going over the edge of the footplate, I did stub my toe... I say toe, what I mean is toeS plural AND my toenails of the toes that were stubbed were bent upwards temporarily!). What's more I have had cold feet where I don't feel them since childhood, I disassociate (and that includes body parts as well as the traditional sense, it is so helpful for injections and/or blood draws!), and I had the beginning of the 'nerves having an argument/not talking to each other', numbness, none or weird sensations in limbs starting... that whilst I felt the initial stubbing of toes, I didn't realise that some of the toenails were bent upwards. AND that the toes were stuck where the 'stubbing' had forced them into weird positions (like the nail part down, with the next bit up, then the next bit down, and then it goes up and into the foot) with my little toe doing it's usual trick of being at a right angle away from my foot! I don't get how that happened, because the socks were more tight than loose, and the boots were as narrow as I could get them because my feet are naturally wide.... And people ask me why I don't drive a car! (I couldn't 'drive' a normal standing persons' shopping trolley when physically fit and as compus mentus as my genetics could get, why did I think I could be in control of a self propel wheelchair with mental health conditions, physical conditions, neurological conditions, coordination AND sensory input issues!!! .......People told me to 'change and challenge your automatic thoughts, try to think more positively' in mental health therapy, and this is what happens! I was actually more sane then, than now!!! Hehe!

I'm in Sweden and we don't get to choose color of our wheelchairs unless owning the chair. But most people have their chairs through the region on unlimited loan kind of thing, and the regions may recondition chairs for another user if you need a new chair and the old one is still in good condition, so the regions only really have grey, black, white and blue :/ I want a pink sparkly chair darnit :P I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (and follow you on Instagram btw :D I'm bendyjen85 on there) and have been in a wheelchair for about 2.5 years now and love my chair! Like you, I'd literally have no independence if I didn't have my wheelchair! I have a chair called Panthera S2 but am soon to get a lighter chair with a tapered front, likely a Quickie Helium as it's more compact during transport than the Panthera chairs and doesn't require you to remove the side guards to fold the backrest. It's sad to leave Panthera though because I love their chairs, I just think the Helium from Quickie will fit my needs better... To me the only downside about being in a wheelchair is that the public space is still pretty inaccessible despite there having been laws about accessibility for many years.

I broke my ankle a few months ago I broke my ankle and I got my grandfathers wheelchair because he refuses to use it it's held now and me and my friend had a race down the school halls and I won and my friend ended up falling face first on the hard marble floor.

Ive been in a wheelchair all of my life. I have found that football gloves work well with going out in the rain and cold.

Oh I hear you.. ankle ramming, also I generate a LOT of static electric charge and its great (if a little painful) to discharge that on assholes who can't hear 'excuse me' and leave their ass in my way... I love that after a lifetime of asking people to wait for me, slow up, hang on... I now HURTLE past them and make them walk faster. Downhill RULES, move over skater-kids! Shoes last me SO much longer and as well as going out in slippers or barefoot, I can buy shoes that are totally impractical and I could never have bought when I was still expected to try and walk/stand!

Yes Your seat is soft but when you want to ride roll coasters at Disney World, since your going to be moving from a soft seat to a hard seat your going to get sores all over your legs and have to go to the hospital.

I can't risk falling off a curb lol, I have Osteogenesis Imperfecta, Brittle Bone Disease :) I tend to steer (ha, literally) clear of getting close to curbs

Sorry, I frequently stub my toes...the idiot who annoyed me was my Yooralla OT...The same one who approved of my new wheelchair that's NOT customized at all. As for going fast wherever that only goes for manual wheelchairs. Power chairs in Australia are speed limited to a maximum of 10kmph...the Policeman who clocked my chair at 74km/h had no idea!!

I know that this video is a bit old. *But* I have POTS/Dystaunomia and recently I had a foot injury and used a chair briefly at school. And I loooved it. Its hard to get around my school since its so big by just walking class to class. I've been thinking a lot about using one on a regular basis so I'm not at risk of passing out as much. But my mom doesn't think I need one, while she is right that in some cases I dont. It'd make life a whole hell of a lot easier. How could I convince her that it'd help me live happier?

I'm in basically the same boat. After living with chronic pain for years, I've finally decided to get a wheelchair. My dad, like your mom, doesn't think I need it. I suspect the reason people like your mom and my dad think wheelchair users have to be paralyzed is because society has taught them that we need to be. Talk to your mom and tell her the reasons you know a wheelchair will benefit you and show her videos like this, which show her that people who use wheelchairs don't always use them because they're paralyzed. If nothing else, ask her if she would rather you injure yourself or worse because you're not using any mobility device. Good luck!

Me too!! Difficult evening wih my parents they're not happy about the idea. I'd only use it for flares or long days but at the moment I don't go out for more than about an hour because it's just too much!

Overcoming Frankie I also have POTS and HSD and I kept falling a lot, so I'm getting a custom wc sometime this week. We had to pay out of pocket for it because my doctors just feel as though I have no quality of life not walking, when in reality when I was walking I was stuck at home all day.

wolfgirl - she's got/had traumatic brain injury (injuries?). A few of her other videos go into it in more detail. It's been a few years since I've watched the videos explaining things, so I can't remember more than that and I don't want to say something false.

I am new to being in a wheelchair I had my gallbladder removed April 14th I woke up unable to walk I am 28yrs currently in a nursing home because I can't find a wheelchair accessible house:(

I buy my shoes from aliexpres because they are verry cheap. They are low quality but look great so who cares. You won't walk on them anyway.
