    Dave weldone my brother! Very quickly... I want to ask this question regarding my previous yam planting. I discovered that after cutting the seed into two, the bottom setts usually sprouting from the lower bottom of the sett instead from the top where the top head of the yams were splited.. I want to know if there's anything I have done wrong or is it normal for the yam to sprout from any sides instead from the top as it's being placed in the soil? I ask this question because when I dug few of the setts to check what made them delay in sprouting out from the heaps, I discovered some were instead sprouting downward into the soil before trying to find their way up. How do I rightly place such bottom setts in the heaps? Please your immediate response will be highly appreciated so that I can prepare for the next season.

  • @ChidavAgriculturalHub

    @ChidavAgriculturalHub

    11 ай бұрын

    You've done nothing wrong. You cannot say specifically where the sprout will come forth from when it's not the head region. However, sprout always begin from the head region, and reason most people believe it's the only side that sprouts, however, that's false, as yam contains buds all round it's skin, and can sprout new vines from any part from the skin or buds

    This video had the potential to be a very informative presentation but fell far short of what could have been achieved. There was a gross lack of explanation for much of what was shown. The ideal sett for planting for ware yam is from 300 grams to 400 grams, not the max of 750 that you stated. You failed to explain why you cut the setts on an angle and not straight. Also I know from expérience why you cut off the tip, but your explanation didn't really come across very well. What insecticide and fungicide did you use and at what ratio. It would have been great if you had explained the cause of the internal flesh damage that you were so busy cutting out from the setts. Then towards the end with all of the setts laid out to cure in the shade I'm sure I could see nematode damage of some of the skin on the setts. You could have explained about nematodes and shown to the viewers the damage caused, it effects and remedies etc. Just that little bit more informative information would've made a big difference. I have your contact details so do expect me to contact you sometime in the near future.
