I propagated two types of Rose of Sharon or Altheas by stem cuttings in soil, I show how I made the cuttings and planted them in soil in a mini greenhouse using a humidity dome. I used a Double Purple Rose of Sharon and a Red Heart Rose of Sharon. I will follow up in about a month and show how the Altheas did.

I’ve successfully propagated rose of Sharon a couple times now, each time I use clover as a companion plant and they seem to grow pretty good together. Rosa Sharon is turned into one of my favorite plants, they say you can eat the flower but I’m Not that hungry yet

What is the best soil to use? I have a very sick Althea that is from my mothers yard, Unfortunately she lost hers from ants years ago. I am hoping that I can start over with a cutting.

Wanda, Out of all the cuttings i took this way the Rose of Sharon performed the worst, They are still alive and have small roots, but not enough to transplant yet, still hoping they root out enough to transplant this year, If not I will have my misting system ready next spring and will do more

Out of all that I did the rose of sharon performed the worst. they are starting to root, but not as successful as the oleander and vitex. I am going to have a mist system set up for next year and expect that to work with most all of my cuttings,,,I just posted a backyard nursery tour and I show them in that video

They would go alot faster if u cut all leaves off. U want the cutting to have the newest and most buds. The newer the buds the better so as soon as u see them starting to come out that's wen u wanna cut it and in just a week or 5 days they have new small leaves from the buds and roots starting. Any leaves are just too much even if u cut the leaf in half because then it'll take even longer because u created a wound and most of the time the leaves will die before new ones start. So it's a waste of time u gotta wait for them to fall before new starts because the plants struggling to revive a leaf instead of growing new ones. I don't even use hormones and iv done this with numerous different plants and trees every single one survived. U can also put any random cutting in a cup of water and nomatter wer u cut it it will grow in some place on it and soon as u see a bud start put it in dirt 3 or 4 days it'll start growing. The bud will start before roots in water.
