Somehow, this video was my first exposure to this group. As a hobbbyist rock/punk musician and a combat Veteran, this was the most moved I've been by music in the last decade. My sincerest appreciation.

Other bands mellow out and slow things down as they get older and worn out. Propagandhi only gets faster and more pissed off. Bless them.

IDK, the instruments are still kick ass and hardcore but they were so edgy, pissed off, and full of angst in their first album. I think the lyrics and vocals have definitely chilled out over the years. They still kick ass but they aren't as raw as they used to be.

They're pissed because the exact things they've been raising awareness of have only gotten worse over time. Capitalism is in decay, leading to the rise of fascism as capitalism protects itself. Animals are being killed in record numbers, purely because some selfish fuck enjoys the taste of their flesh. We're still engaged in illegal, immoral wars, killing innocent civilians. Nationalism is reaching levels only seen in the run up to WW2. And children are being locked in concentration camps.
1:37 the bass on this section is sublime. Honestly one of the most beautiful things I’ve *ever* heard ANY bassist play. It’s almost it’s own song.
no band has been as consistently skilled at such a level as Propagandhi. their lyrics still bite with the anger of a 17 year old highschooler but with the wisdom of making music for decades through some fucking awful world events

I meant to say that their lyrics still bite with the intensity of youth, but they're tempered by that 46 years of wisdom and anger I've seen plenty of aging musicians end up phoning it in when they get older and lazily write lyrics without much depth or passion behind them. Spirit of youth, wisdom of the aged

I love this song so much! My granddad turned into an angry alcoholic after WWII. He couldn't talk about it, and he used booze to escape. His anger had a huge effect on my grandma, Mum and uncle. If there's an afterlife, I hope he's found some rest and relief.

My grandfather came back from WWII with a Purple Heart and "shell shock" - now known as PTSD. He hit the bottle and it culminated in him murdering my grandmother and killing himself in the house I grew up in. My dad talked about this once over drinks when I was 18 and told me to never ask about it again. He was around 14 when this happened. Before the truth was told to me, it was said they died young of heart attacks. My younger brother always swore he felt a presence in the hallway it happened, but I never had that experience. I think ghosts/spirits are complete nonsense. Anywho - this song hits home for me as well.

There's intergenerational trauma/PTSD and the fight for your own health is even more honorable than the selfsacrifice every soldier gives for his/her nation/ideal.

They divide people with their shit political views, dont know anything about ww2, politics, or really anything, and their music sounds like an angry toddler screaming and hitting a guitar. They suck, basically. They're also shit humans. Fuck them all.
Because the lyrics fly the fuck by, I painstakingly transcribed them here for a more digestible listening/reading experience. But before we get to them: SUPPORT THIS BAND!!! i been thinking about you i been meaning to tell you sit down with me lets have a drink back when the war ended your great grandfather hand-wrote letters of apology to all of those families of the men who crewed that u-boat haunted till his death by that long night off the coast your other great grandad came back from Arnhem transformed into a damaged and violent man never spoke of the slaughter he witnessed firsthand this is the world I brought you into man all remorse, no rebel a shell of my former shell sit down with me, lets have a drink what have we here? the dreaded failed imagineer? his private dismay on public display son, do not be alarmed by your old man’s tears hey old man, its ok. every dog has his day. sit down with me, lets have a drink i been thinking about you i been meaning to tell you sit down with me lets have a drink.
My grandpa fought in WW2. When he told us "war stories," they were goofy tales about hardtack and the absurd bureaucracy of the military and government in general. I had assumed that he never saw any fighting, but I should have known better because he was one of the most outspoken critics of war I've ever met. After he passed, we got access to his unit's combat history and learned that he had, in fact, seen a great deal of very intense fighting, with his unit suffering major losses during his time in it. He convinced me. War is hell.

Time for a personal ranking of Propagandhi albums: 1. Potemkin City Limits 2. Failed States 3. Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes 4. Supporting Caste 5. Less Talk, More Rock 6. Victory Lap 7. How To Clean Everything This ranking will probably be extremely unpopular within Propagandhi fans (I've been one since the 90s btw.), I know. But for me personally, #1 and #7 are out of the question. HTCE is fun and I love it for nostalgic reasons, but it's not the kind of music that I like (anymore) and not what I love Propagandhi for. And PCL to me is a masterpiece from first to last second. The song writing, the production, the riffs, the vocals, the lyrics - by far their best record in every aspect.
