I took my kids with me to see Night Ranger at Biggs Army Air Field back in the 90's. During the show, Brad saw my 7 year old son rocking out. He motioned to him to hold his hand up in the air. Then, I still don't know how he did this... Brad flicked his guitar pick from about 20 feet DIRECTLY into my sons hand!!! My kid was stunned! And he became a lifelong Brad Gillis fan for life!

Brad's a wizard with the bar! His playing and tone on Speak Of The Devil with Ozzy was stellar. He's the reason myself and countless others adopted the "cricket effect" he made famous. I've since moved on from Floyds and don't use tremelos much anymore but when I do, I don't miss Floyds... I've realized over the years that I can still do everything with a quality 2 point floating vintage style tremelo bridge, locking tuners and a properly cut nut (the right string trees help too). I have a few US made G&L's with dual fulcrum tremelos that hardly ever go out of tune... one in particular that I abuse and it never goes out of tune. I've also had positive experiences with Gotoh vintage floating trems but the G&L is where it's at IMO. I realize Brad's original Floyds are the simpler ones without fine tuners, etc. but those early versions still rely on a locking nut, which are one of the things I hated about Floyds.

You're absolutely right. There are a lot of great two point trems out there. I have a Charvel DK24 with a recessed two point trem and it's amazing how well it holds tune even with Gillis like chirps, squeals, and dive bombs.

My 1990 strat deluxe has the 2-point floating bridge. Got 3 springs and intonation done with a good tuner, it floats and does not go out . I play straight bridges mostly but I like the fight of playing against the springs . The Sperzel tuners are made so you don't need string trees, probably has something to do with it as well

It's totally amazing that this guitar goes from a beat up paint job 00:37 to a perfect paint job 03:24, and the "original Fender logo" 1:20 changes to a Fernandez logo 3:31all in the same clip.

🤣🤣🤣🙌🙌🙌 It was a little bit of “Shred Magic” ;) All kidding aside, Brad had two main guitars for his show that night at the Arcada Theater: his ‘62 Strat and his Fernandes Strat. He played both that night and he ripped on both in the interview footage for us 😬👍Both had a super robust early Floyd Rose on it. They were INCREDIBLE 🤯👍🎸

The replica has some stock Fernandes pickups while Brad prefers a Duncan JB in the bridge and some Duncan high output strat pups in the middle and neck. I remember for a stretch he and Watson endorsed PJ Marx active pickups back in the 80s about the time when they were both Hamer endorsers. I tried some guitars with PJ Marx and they were very good. But I prefer passive pups, always DiMarzios like the Tone Zone, Super Distortion, etc.

I learned about 10 years ago from the guys at FU tone. I e en have two guitars with FR Special and if they are set up correctly, they hold PERFECT TUNE. The only issue I have with the cheaper licensed and Special double locking Trems is that I wear out either bridge posts or knife edges. Not on the 1000's and above though.

Dive the bar, then bend the G or low E string, then play a big chord without touching the bar. That’s the test for tuning stability that no one ever does. Lots of guitars with non-locking trems can come back in tune perfectly after using the bar.

Our local chief of police was trying to get Ozzy banned because he "is a bad influence on the youth of our town..." My stepbrother and I made these "Ozzy for Police Chief" campaign buttons and Ozzy's press saw them and we got backstage passes and met Ozzy and Jake E. Lee and the rest of the band! SUPER nice guys. Was sad to not get to see Brad but was stoked for the rest. Brad's multi-finger taps and hammer-ons are out of this world.

Brad is one of my hero's.. Floyd sells these now and I"m going to have one put on a strat I just put together.. As soon as I can find someone to install it.. I probably could, but I want to make sure it's done right.. I saw Brad with Ozzy.. I had tickets to the Lousiville KY show which was supposed to have RR's. Of course, we all know he passed, and so they delayed the show like two or three weeks if I remember right.. You could either get your money back or just hang on to your tickets which is what I did and then I saw the show and Brad killed it.. I mean he really did a great job.. Considering he didn't have much time to learn all those songs and he did a killer killer killer solo that was so damn good.. Anyway, I had to comment.. I'm 62 and I've seen him and he's so good. I also saw him with Night Ranger and that was good, but I liked the Ozzy show better.. 🙂 Regards from south central Indiana. Tim

Brad’s MONSTER playing on “Speak..” is the most killer playing on ANY Sabbath album, let alone live. Especially considering how much time he had to prep, he just destroyed the licks on that album…especially his feedback control, and his taste in lick structure and delivery. Actually, ALL of the musicians on Speak of the Devil were at their absolute best. ❤❤❤
