@@mabs2485 i honestly was totally blindsided by it because it seems like nomura totally forgot that sora even had a crush on kairi in the first place. he'd only mentioned her once in kh3 before their scenes happened... it's just so . yeah. deep down i always kind of hoped maybe SE would pull something like korra and asami with soriku where it's kind of ambiguous but also undeniable.. sighs. i'm really disappointed and hurt lmao. dream drop distance really made me think

I just want to reiterate here because I feel like there's going to be a good few people saying how people only want this because "fujoshi", and that's not right at all. Sora and Riku have bonded so much over the course of the series that having them get a step closer and becoming lovers would make narrative sense and tie up their arcs in one neat package. Sora and Kairi have barely spoken throughout most of the games, and even Namine and Sora would've made a better pairing than Sokai by this point. Having three scenes where Sora and Kairi have slightly goofy romantic implications with each other has barely any narrative weight if they're not going to introduce Kairi proper and give her an actual character. She's nothing but het bait and that annoys me because if she's going to be the main love interest, why isn't she more pronounced? Why is she reduced to plot? Who thought that was a good idea???? KH3 infuriated me because Kairi continued to sit back and do literally nothing while Riku actively protected Sora, and to add more salt to the wounds apparently Kairi's the only one capable of believing Sora could come back? I'm sorry but no, Sora, Kairi and Riku deserved so much more and their arcs and characters deserved to have a satisfying arc, but instead we got shoehorned romance and broken characters. In my personal opinion: Sora and Kairi should have shared their paopu fruits with Riku, as a symbol of their undying friendship and left the romance out of it altogether. But if they did have a chance to make any romance, Sora and Riku would be the only ones with enough time together and enough bonds to have made any sense.

In the very first cutscene with Terra and Young Riku, Terra’s words are “No borders around or above. So long as you Champion the ones you love.” Fast forward 12 years later and Riku has become Sora’s “Champion”, he is the only one in the entire series who protects Sora the most. Guarding him while he slept and regained his memories, becoming his Dream Eater in Dream Drop Distance and now in KH3’s Secret Ending it seems Riku will go off once more to save Sora from death itself. I can only hope they have more tender moments in the next main title.

I can't lie watching your video made me realize they did have super super lovey and affectionate moments. Like yeah we get they're friends....but yall stretched it.(the people that actually wrote these scenes) Every time he see Riku he practically lights up like the fourth of July! He was on his knees crying about how he searched for him. Then this made me realize KHDD was practically just about Sora and Riku! He would of been okay with just being on an Island alone with Riku! Not even caring about the fact Kairi on the other side. In KH3 him and Kairi relationship feels awkward and forced. They literally have no chemistry.

I always felt like Riku loved Sora from the first game. Long before I knew I was gay. I know it won’t happen, but why not. We gays deserve at least one solid Jrpg protagonist.

Honestly? Even when I was younger, I noticed how much more development Riku and Sora's relationship had than Sora and Kairi's.

Just finished kh3...Feeling heart broken because the beautiful relationship between Sora and Riku literally diminished and was cast away into the shadows. And then all the interactions with Sora and Kairi were just so...Forced! I mean...? Sora didn’t think of Kairi once throughout the whole game until the very end. He thought about each and every character, (riku included) and yet Kairi never even slipped his mind. I’m just so disappointed with this and especially after the papou fruit...But I actually should have expected that since it technically was stated in KH1...But I just had a crazy thought about this! Sora and Riku have been together since the beginning. Their fates intertwine from the first game to even now. And yet, they never once ate a papou fruit. Sora and Riku don’t need a papou fruit for their connection and love(doesn’t have to mean romantic) are so strong that that’s what keeping them together. And yet, Kairi and Sora need some dumb fruit to be together. This just goes to show who’s relationship is stronger. I’m literally kinda just clinging on strings at this point, so if I sound stupid that’s why 😅

The funny thing is they did technically share a paopu, in KH1 Riku threw Sora the paopu telling him what it meant and that he should share it with Kairi, apparently according to KH3 you dont NEED to eat the paopu since Kairi and Sora just held theirs so all you really need to do is share it with the other person soooooooo Riku kind of indirectly unintentionally did the paopu ritual with Sora way before Kairi did which explains why Sokai's ending in KH3 went so horribly wrong xD Sora shared the paopu with another and so he was cursed with death lol but in all seriousness though it'd honestly make sense if that were the case but the whole Sokai thing was just forced af and they tried to play down Soriku ESPECIALLY in the end where he broke down and screamed over Kairi being swept away but didnt react half as bad when Riku friggin took on a swarm of heartless dying right infront of him nor did he even try to help him or acknowledged Riku still being with him like his existence didnt compare to the others, not only that Kairi gets all the credit for believing in Sora but Riku literally DIED believing in Sora yet they make it seem like Kairi did something special and all the hand holding...god it was so forced and didnt feel real at all and out of character for Sora yet all his interactions with Riku felt real and genuine, then when Kairi got killed and Sora burst into a rage and cried attacking Xehanort, Sora's literally only cried his own tears ONCE and that was when he finally saw Riku again in KH2, but Kairi has literally faded away in his arms in KH1, was held hostage, was literally dead when he found her and he didnt shed a tear and even willingly stabbed himself smiling just to give Kairi her heart back, in KH2 Kairi was again kidnapped and in danger and Sora didnt shed a tear and just went after her, he was angry but he kept calm surprisingly considering the organization had her and he didnt know if she was ok or not, he reunites with Kairi and just is like 'sup' as if Kairi wasnt ever in any danger at all but Riku? falls to his knees and bawls his eyes out Now lets go to KH3 and Riku literally dies right in front of him, Riku is protecting HIM with his life and Sora just sits there watching as Riku is slowly being consumed by the heartless, he doesnt run to him, he doesnt cry out for him to stop, he just sits there and watches, but when Kairi gets taken he screams and he cries? Im sorry but I dont buy that, NOW suddenly Sora gets distraught when Kairi is taken? but when Riku risks his life he doesnt even attempt to help him? I call BS, and then the ending when hes talking about not wanting to leave Kairi alone for one more second yet he literally told Kairi in KH1 she couldnt come with him because she would be in his way and then in KH2 at the end Sora leaves Kairi AGAIN and in KH3 Sora doesnt even THINK of Kairi until shes actually in his face and then suddenly his whole character does a 180 and all of a sudden hes all over Kairi and cant live without her, LITERALLY FDB, we lost our protagonist because this couple is such garbage Nomura didnt even wanna let them be together for 2 seconds before tearing them apart again and get back to the REAL duo that is Soriku with the secret ending, this showed even Nomura doesnt take Sokai seriously

Honestly, Riku really gives me the vibe that he's got a thing for Sora- ESPECIALLY since DDD. Sora obviously has always had a crush on Kairi, but I think he's just generally oblivious. SoKai is going to be end-game of course, but I do wonder if there is legit subtext going on with Riku or if it's just fanservice.

I do. I'm a writer. And I was a HUGE Kairi x Sora fan...in the beginning. But the way Sora acted when he finally saw Kairi again. Made me question his feelings. And trust me I wasn't happy either. He gives Kairi a somewhat hug as she throws herself into his arms. Then he drops to the floor crying when he sees Riku. HMM....DDD is ALL about Sora and Riku. Even Chain of Memories was a huge hint. I love Kairi. Don't get me wrong. But the emotional moments that occur between Riku and Sora. It's pretty obvious. From a writers perspective. If I wanted to have Sokai I would have focused alot more on building the two's relationship with DDD. To build up to KH3. But it's about LIGHT=Sora/ DARK=RIKU. One can't exsist without the other. And the melody. Both Riku and Sora. I mean WOAH! Even if the two don't kiss. With homosexuality becoming more widely accepted. Its possible.

I agree that Sora and Riku have a much better developed relationship, but I still don't believe they would ever really go in that direction (regardless of the fact that homosexuality is more accepted now). Kairi has been Sora's crush from the beginning (the cave drawing in kh1, imagining dancing with her in kh2) and for the vast majority of people who have been given this perception from the main games, Sora and Riku getting together would seem like it completely came out of nowhere. At best, it may be likely that no couples get together at the end of kh3 and I'd be perfectly happy with that. As for Sora's reactions to being reunited with Kairi and Riku, I agree his reactions are...odd- not for Riku (I think it's perfectly understandable for Sora to break down given the circumstance), but for Kairi, not giving much of a reaction at all. But then again, you can just chalk it up to Sora being awkward because of his crush on Kairi. And you have to remember he got on his knees to beg for her in front of Saix. I do think it's possible that there is intended subtext regarding Riku's feelings towards Sora (all of DDD, some moments in COM, even Riku's jealousy towards Sora's friends in KH1 may hint towards this...not to mention early concept art of Riku that makes him seem quite...effeminate shall we say) I just don't think they'll ever make it explicit. But hey, I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Really? There is an awesome video...let me see if I can find it that seems to point otherwise. In Chain of memories. Painfully underplayed because of the card system BLECK! Namine gives us a clue that Sora's memories are not complete. There are still some missing. When they had the adorable dancing scene. THAT was before he saw Kairi again. He seemed almost....confused. Like he was questioning Kairi's very existence. But Riku was ALWAYS real. What he knew. I believe it started out where he had a crush on Kairi. The question remains. What memories is he still missing? Kingdom Hearts is a very complexed storyline. Originally Kairi was never supposed to be in the story. But they had to have a female to make it not so...er gay. But. You have to admit. DDD distance had that feeling.

I'm glad someone compiled all this :D Even if it isn't romance, Riku and Sora are very close and have a more substantial relationship than any other characters in the series. Their relationship is the foundation of the KH story. As an aside, I hope the developers did ditch the Kairi romance thing because it never really fit tbh. So far she has been nothing more than an (arguably) unnecessary plot device. I'm glad the focus has shifted (as of DDD) back to Sora and Riku's friendship, and I hope it stays that way in KH3, because that is the relationship that drives the story.

Don't get me wrong, I like Kairi, she is a nice SUPPORTING character, but I feel like the only reason Kairi was added was because her presence was supposed to get in the way of Sora and Riku's friendship and cause Riku to feel abandoned and turn to the darkness, thus starting Sora's epic journey to reunite with him. So, basically, Kairi's purpose was to show how strong Sora and Riku's relationship is. And now that that's established, she wasn't really needed for DDD (or at least, that's how my brain interprets it).

NuniPikachu Sorry, but those don't make a things substantial character. Personality, ambitions, interactions, achievements, THESE are the things that make a character and as much as I adore her, Kairi hasn't done much, been around much, proven that she is capable of much. What you listed were "Plot Device Character" traits. Yes, they make an important character, but they don't make HER an important character. Once those purposes are served there isn't much left. Anyone else could fill the role of Princess or keyblade wielder. Compare her to Riku. True, someone else could be the best friend who turns to darkness, but at this point, can we replace Riku? No, he's too developed and prominent in the story to replace without seriously messing up the plot. Kairi, however...can be replaced. Not as one of Sora's best friends, but as a key player. Riku also has the title of "Sora's best friend", but unlike Kairi, he doesn't need that title to be important anymore, nor does he need his own nobody. He has personality and development that make him important.

I love my gay sons

In the part with Lea, all I could think about was bad I felt for him. You can see in his face Lea (Axel) misses Roxas. 😞 Whether you wanna think of it as in a romantic sense or not, he still misses his little duel wielding cinnamon roll. 😢

One thing this game has done consistently well is showcasing platonic love, and always showing that love between friends means just as much as romantic love. -The Wayfinder trio, especially between the older two and their son Ventus -The Destiny Island trio where their friendship is always shown above any crushes -Keyblade Hero 3 (who I will never refer to as anything else ever again) -Sea Salt trio growing hearts because they learned to feel through their friendships (and the obvious more between Axel and Roxas) -Lea and Isa and how the jealousy affects them as well as especially Lea fighting for it -Riku and Mickey growing close and always pairing off to go fight, -Twilight Town group isn't paired off with each other at all. Any romantic pairing is always pushed to the side to make way for platonic love, and I think that's incredibly important. The fact that Axel understood and explained better to Roxas and Xion than most actual humans still amazes me. When explaining love to them, particularly romantic love, he makes sure to say that romantic love isn't just a step above friendship when that's what they ask, that they're equally important and there aren't actually any "steps" to it. It's a very nice departure from what most media shows.

Ventus is not Aqua and Terra’s son. He’s just their friend. You would know because in one of the BBS cutscenes, Xehanort brings him into Eraqus’s place, and Aqua and Terra don’t know who he is. They’re not old enough to have a 14 year old kid.

At first I thought the video was a meme. Heh, I'm pretty sure Riku got at least a bad crush, whether of if it's queer-baiting or not. I think Kairi feel not only like a plot device, but also like SE's hetero shield. They could push the "not-love interest" trope to it's fullest without resorting to burying their gays to the public. I kind of wish KH would put more work into it's relationships. If you're selling me SoKai get them more screen time or make their interractions more meaningful than "the first girl wins", dammit. Jade D. i wouldn’t be mad at sokai if kairi was the one who had so many memories with sora and had this subtle love vibe. but as it is right now, i see them as very close friends and i honestly don’t want that to be ruined.

Honestly if it were Kairi instead of Riku who was in these scenes then SoKai would make sense. But nope all the development was with Sora and Riku. And god we barely see Kairi and when we do she has absolutely no role in any of these events. She even forgot Sora’s name at one point. Why is she the love interest?

watching the most important person in your life drift away from you in favor of some girl that suddenly appeared and inserted herself in between your close relationship can mess a person up, especially a young kid like KH1 riku. before kairi came along it was just him and sora together so of course he grew into who he was in KH1. the added pressure of maleficent hovering over his shoulder and seeing that sora has made new friends only made his fall to darkness even worse u_u

Haven’t read everything yet, but I did look for that specific scene, and couldn’t find it. The person who apparently read that part never said which novel, either.

About KH3. I don't think they forced SoKai as much as showed that Sora no longer thinks of Kairi in a romantic way. If he did love her he would gladly accept papou fruit without hesitation. The scene didn't look like a romantic couple promising to always return to eachother, but friends with one-sided crush. Kairi loves him, but Sora doesn't anymore. He even tells he has no clue about love.

Well I honestly really ship Soriku but I have to disagree with a few points you gave. Sora did in fact accept the paopu fruit, he was just surprised she gave it to him out of nowhere. And you are right, Sora does not and never understood what love means but I think he starred realizing when he had flashbacks of the disney pairings like Rapunzel and Flynn

@@paopufruit1770 You missed the _"without hesitation"_ part. Sora didn't accept the paopu fruit *until* Kairi reassured him it was a good luck charm. As OP said, if Sora loved her, he wouldn't have hesitated at all. He would have been excited/happy as soon as he realized what was in his face. He didn't and that is in odds with someone who is supposedly in love.

I feel like, Kairi suddenly showing him the paopu was a desperate move, like trying to take Sora's attention off Riku and back onto her, out of pure jealousy towards Riku. Oh my god. This just showed up in my recommendations. You have converted me. Unlike a lot of fandom people, I’m not into shipping. It’s rare for me to have opinions on romantic relationships. I also tend to accept whatever the canon tells me. I treat fantasy lore almost like a history book with facts for me to learn and become an expert on (but I still do write fanfiction and make fanart for fun). I always accepted SoraXKiari because that’s what the story seems to say. (But it’s just words. They have to tell us that Sora has a crush on her because they can’t be bothered to show the two interact). However after watching this, I have to say Sora and Riku love each other. The way they act with each other is so loving that it’s gotta be more than platonic friendship. And this is coming from someone who would say I love my friends but not like Sora and Riku.

These two have potential to be an endgame even if it isn’t explicit it can be ambiguous and very subtle

The more I see this the more I’m convinced that they are gay for each other. Like wtf how is any of this not gay?!

I came here after kh3 broke my heart and illusions in a thousand pieces, I felt thoroughly disappointed in mechanics and narrative (not gonna argue why kh3 sucked in this comment) of what I thought would be the game of the year. But what really hurt me the most is what Nomura did to the romantic relationships. Just think about for a second. THERE'S NO CHEMISTRY BETWEEN SORA AND KAIRI, that is going as far as the first game. In his top priorities, there's no place for Kairi, this is especially notorious in Hollow Bastion, where Sora literally forgot Kairi until Beast mentioned her and Riku says how she's a princess of light and all that jazz. In kh2 Sora is far more concerned about Roxas and Riku and Kairi is just a prompt. And now in kh3 is incredible to see how he just ignores the person he "loves" during the WHOLE game and didn't even care about her *Spoiler* death until the very end of the game. This is super notorious during Xehanort's exposition. Just to put in perspective they DON'T mention her. She, the person that Sora "loves" the most and died in front of his eyes.

funfact about kh3; if you look at the fruit seen between sokai.... you see they have NOT shared the fruit, they mimicked the cave drawing, besides sora kept mentioning riku in their little time together.... so yeah there's that

I will always find it funny when people say they see no romantic feelings of Sora and Riku and yet they have no problem admitting there's a relationship between kairi and Sora despite kairi only being a plot device for Soras man pain Sora only caring about Riku for the first two games while Riku and Sora have been there for one another supported each other and defended each other

@Tattle Boad Not Everyone though sure Sora can be with Kairi but it wouldn't make much sense since Sora usually hangs out with Riku most of the time anyway. Might I also add that Roxas and xion make a lot more sense than Sokai because of development of their relationship since a lot of people care more about seeing how the relationship forms than the gender of the specific gay Couple in it

In my opinion, I think that SoRiku is a great...no EXCELLENT ship, and they deserved more in KH3 Also, about Sora and Kairi, I don't ship them and I don't like Kairi. To me, Kairi is pretty much useless to the whole series of KH, she sits back and does nothing while others protect her, Sora and the world, she always gets kidnapped and taken away. In KH3, she was trained with a keyblade, but guess what? She didn't do anything, during the final battle, she ended up taken, and in the end, Sora had to go alone to find her. If she really loved Sora, she would give it her all to protect him. What really has me in hot lava is that Sora protects her, and she doesn't appreciate it. The ending in KH3 also has me ticked off, because to think I spended $60 on a game that's ending was not good at all, only to have relationship arcs twisted up. On the other hand, Riku protects Sora with all of his strength, risking his life. Not to mention, in KH3, he almost died trying to get Kairi out of the vortex of heartless. That's all I had to say, other than SoRiku is my favorite ship.

Me: I dont like shipping characters that arent really supposed to canonically be together, Sora and Riku are just friends Also me, post-DDD: FUCKING HELL RIKU TOTALLY HAS A CRUSH ON SORA AND SORA IS COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS OOHHHH GOD

Alright, I really tried so hard forcing myself to ship Sora x Kairi but I literally can’t even- I don’t even like Kairi as a character because how much lack of screen time she has (rip Kairi’s screen time), that I can’t even interpret her personality… I’m not a fujoshi, and I always stick to the canon ships whenever I can. When I played kh1 when I was like 7 I only got a few levels in so I always just thought Kairi was Sora's little sister because he cared about her without having really any motive or interactions with her- I actually don't remember Riku so I have no opinion on that. But randomly I was reccomended a "Kingdom hearts in a nutshell" video and ever since then my feed has been flooded with these and am finally forming an opinion, and that opinion is that this is pretty gay. And it's adorable.

tbh i wanted this to be a comprehensive compilation of everything that was out at the time but i definitely missed a few things (esp. in the games i dont remember as well or have only played one or two times). i've kinda been thinking about making another video with the stuff i missed+stuff from kh3 so maybe...

I just finished KH3 and I gotta say y'all are overeacting it. Ok, Sora and Kairi ate paopus together. Big deal! That only means she's an important person to him, which is something we already know. Hell, they didn't even eat the same fruit, they each ate a different one. Y'all are forgetting right before that scene Sora is like "Hey, is Riku ok?" until Kairi shoves the paopu onto his face. She obviously sees Riku as a competitor. Then there's the return of the gayblade, which litteraly has a paopu as the chain. And last but not least... * SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER * Kairi is DEAD!! She's literaly out of the picture! They can't be together, once again. Until you see them kissing, Sora and Kairi aren't official. And even if that happens, that doesn't exclude Riku being in love with Sora

i think honestly that even with sora and kairi sharing a paopu fruit literally so much longer before that scene sora and riku has a paopu fruit keychain for their shared keyblade so.... Ermmmm what the scaaallooppppp

Come to think of this, creators don't even try to hide anymore that Riku is deeply in love with Sora. They didn't try to hide it from the very beginning... His plunge into the darkness in Kingdom Hearts 1, all this spite and hatred are fruits of unrequited feelings, a possessive and jealous desire of Sora's attention and love. A perfect soil for darkness to sprout in the heart. Maleficent immediately recognised the nature of these feelings, long before Riku himself did. She played on them, turning possessiveness and jealousy into hate and spitefulness, to the point when Riku was content with killing Sora, to rid himself of this heartache... But, even though Sora didn't love Riku in the way Riku wished, he loved him still. That bit of pure light, connecting their hearts, was what saved Riku from clutches of Ansem. And it gave him strength to resist many temptations, to persevere through countless struggles in years to come... But only when he was able to let go of the guilt that plagued him for so long after, he truly did let go and became whole again. He accepted that he will most likely never confess his true feelings, let alone have them answered back. He made peace with this truth, and never faultered in the face of darkness again... This is what makes the arc of Riku and Sora so tragically beautiful, and I can't help but feel that for them both to become lovers as well as soulmates would mean to lose some of this perfect bittersweetness... But those are just my thoughts.
