Every time I watch American movies or dramas about the prom, I become glad I did not go to a high school in America. I don’t think I can’t handle it. Like, why?

Because it’s just fun. Especially if you’re part of a graduating class. You party with and said goodbye to friends, high school years are over, hello to summer and then on to college or wherever life takes you. Movies overdramatizes things, it’s a formal dance to socialize with other students, classmates and school friends. Not that serious…

It’s litteraly a fun dance with your freinds, it’s a party , you can stay at home and be miserable if you want no one’s forcing you.

Looking at this I confirm from Czech perspective that Prom is not my type of event. We have there in Czech Republic instead "Leaving exam ball" (maturitní ples) which is more formal, takes usually part in January - March of your last studies year and makes much less pressure on having a date. It is quite common to come only with parents or with your group of friends and relatives. On my ball there was only about 30-40 % students that were in relationship.
