After recording the complete Prokofiev concertos, Vadym Kholodenko returns to his favourite composer. The pieces assembled here reveal several facets of Prokofiev: an outstanding melodist, a ‘classicist’ on the fringes of the avant-garde, and eventually the herald of a Soviet realism that was anything but servile. The freedom peculiar to the composer-pianist ‘with fingers of steel’ is brought out in all its vitality by the subtle yet never showy playing of this Ukrainian artist.
Après avoir enregistré l'intégrale des concertos de Prokofiev, Vadym Kholodenko retrouve son compositeur de prédilection. Les pièces rassemblées ici dévoilent plusieurs facettes d’un mélodiste hors-pair, un « classique » en marge des avant-gardes... avant de devenir le héraut d’un réalisme soviétique nullement servile, en l’occurrence. Cette liberté propre au compositeur-pianiste « aux doigts d’acier » retrouve toute sa vitalité dans le jeu subtil et jamais démonstratif de l’interprète ukrainien.
