As a near-sighted individual, I have to say that the vision effect from losing your glasses is spot on. Nothing would be more terrifying for me than to lose my glasses in a zombie apocalypse and be effectively blind.

😂 ah yes i know this feeling however I also trained my sight and it feels like it yet not that bad. There is far sighted and near sighted. I trained my self without glasses. Not fun but doable. However you be surprised how good your hearing gets
The glasses vision effect would be EXTREMELY cool if its less blurry if you zoom in but more blurry as you zoom out.

I feel like they should add the three different types or even more types of sight ailments. Being nearsighted makes it so its that blurred for farthes objects and being faraighted makes closer objects very blurry but farther objects seem normal. Maybe even some colorblind characters could help added.

You gotta respect a dev crew that keeps the game in beta for 10 years just to constantly keep working on the perfect game. The procedural map generation on the borders is just one of many examples of elements that are implemented just to appease the fan base. They know the game isn't finished, so they happily invite modders to come and mess with their code. So much so, that it has kind of become their staff recruiting tactic. It's just really cool. But also heart breaking, because this game will never be finished. It will always be added on to. Constantly improved. Perpetually exercising, so-to-speak. It's tragically beautiful, is all. *sniff*

Honestly to me it feels less tragic more admirable, almost like the legend that Walt Disney said the parks would never be truly finished -- if TIS were one of those companies that just dicks around and thats why the devtime is so long it'd definitely feel more of a tragedy, but with their kind of progress and work it shows a true dedication to make something they really want, even if it's niche. Nothing better than an artist endlessly seeking perfection on a project they feel passion for, cheers! ^^

I'd like to see it with a clear diameter a few feet infront of you. I like the idea of heavy blur at a distance, but some basic navigation abilities would be helpful for finding your glasses.

The world doesn't become a blurry mess like I'm legally blind and I hope the devs change this to actually be realistic, like a range around the player for example, with vision becoming blurrier the farther you look.

@@MarcuPitoni think from a gameplay perspective it would be best to simulate farsightedness, rather than nearsightedness, and blur the edges of your screen in a certain radius vignette style, with it becoming blurrier close to the edges.

As someone with glasses the vision blur effect was surprisingly accurate to how my vision is impaired without them

So many things to get excited about! Crafted Garden Forks? Hopefully crafted Axes. Traits that noticeably do something, and maybe they will fix Axeman to actually be 25% faster swing speed against zombies! Hopefully they will add a few more traits as well...

Any tool or melee weapon you can think of, you can craft it. And when a tool breaks, the head will probably be intact, so you just gotta put it on a new handle.

I love how they put these little crumbs in their update videos. I didn't even get it at first but when I saw "My glasses!" I just rofled. xD
The basements and elevation systems will be amazing, especially with the more refined audio. It will enhance a player's immersion like never before. Imagine descending further into the basement, hearing the growls of zombies and water trickling down the basements walls. Great video, Atomic!
the first place to make a safehouse will definitely be bunker, i want to feel this creepy atmosphere

Once I grind skills in Rosewood start, my first destination is the Secret Military Base. Clean out the surface, establish a base, then explore the basement.

house where you started is probably the best location for base in muldraugh as it is surrounded by tall fence, has forest and pond nearby,has 2nd floor which you can even use later to make completely safe from zombies if you destroy stairs with sledgehammer and it's not far from important locations such as warehouses, not to mention that neigbourhood pretty often have nice stuff such as backpacks and good amount of melee weapons
I should be able to use the floor to hammer a nail in a plank Mfs are overthinking it

I think it would make sense to get a crafting speed penalty but it should still be possible, yes.

dude, im on my first ever playthrough, my character has survived 5 lacerations, (all of which were infected), 2 deep wounds after sitting on them for 2 days, hotwired a perfect car with max gas, and to top it all off I found a civilian bulletproof vest and a katana in a survivor house! im just beyond lucky

Fenris made his character at the range look like Gun Jesus from Forgotten Weapons lol. Also the short sighted trait effect is something I also would be interested in seeing as a short sighted person. But I have to say, as debilitating as it will be with that effect, imagine if they introduced Allergies as a negative trait. You're player gets varying levels of sniffles or sneezing fits from seasonal allergies, which I can also say is debilitating
In a zombie apocalypse.. going into a basement would be one of the last things I'd want to do!

I just realized I’ve been playing PZ for literally a decade. Man, it’s come so far…You guys remember the days before cars or being able to get water from the only two wells on the map after water shuts off…Those were the days. Nothing like having to leave you base because of a horde at dusk with no water or food and it just started raining in the woods on foot.

Love the way you integrated that product advertisement, very smooth mate.. 😁. As a bespectacled person I love the idea of having vision related traits, items and visual effects linked like that! It's exciting to see the whole firearms and aiming side getting reworked too, I always thought the existing vanilla version was entirely too I guess numbers based and not as sensible / realistic as it could be. Being so heavily reliant on aiming skill points to hit a target even at close range always reminded of the old XCOM 95% chance to hit failures or the gunfight scenes from Police Squad / Naked Gun. I've been using the Radon226's ATRO mod recently and what TIS is doing reminds me a lot of that, which is a good thing! The news about the procedural generation is also really interesting too, I can't wait to see how the genius map makers will put all that to use! Not only will it increase the playable Kentucky type area exponentially, I can see potentially being huge for those making standalone maps too if it allows other multiple modders to build additional regions that can be seamlessly integrated with them as well! Project Zomboid World here we come! 😁 Cheers as always Mr Duck!
i'd love to see a way in Zomboid of when i place down items on a table or worktop if it's a bottle of water or any item, it would be awesome if the item returned back to spot where i'd firsted placed it rather than dropping it at your feet when you use it.

Imagine if there were two or three different levels of eye debuffs you could pick at the start. To add to it, the glasses added to the world would have two or three different strengths so if your character had a sight problem to varing degree you'd have to find a pair that suits your sight disability. Ex: short sighted, far sighted, cataract

Oh ya for the glasses they could do a vision bubble and outside that it's foggy.
First day as a newcomer in project zomboid was darn cool, tutorial helps a lot, such as handling your gun, some features makes you loom around, except the advanced tutorial such as tending to cars, any carpentery and lack of irl functionalities. I always find this issue and request help from the community and learn most of it by myself.

9:20 I actually quite like this, would be even better if the items were blurred as well, forcing you to either guess where are the glasses or try to run away and come back for them later somehow.

So exited, I've been watching tons of tips and tricks videos, along with challenge runs. I'm waiting for build 42 to drop (I'll wait a bit for critical bugs to be patched) to finally start playing.
That vision effect looks okay to me as a person with -6.5. But it would be good if it becomes less blurry when it's close to you.
I really like the implementation of needing a work surface for some crafting, makes a lot of sense! I hope they can work it to allow for at least some crafting to still be done without a surface, but maybe at a time penalty or quality of crafted item penalty. Sure, it would be best to build, for example a spiked bat, on a good surface, but if you're in the middle of nowhere surrounded by a hoard when your weapon breaks and your choices are either trying to craft something useful on the fly or run and hope for the best, some people would surely opt to keep fighting with improvised, perhapse lower quality weapons. Maybe that's not possible, but I think it maintains good "realism" and lets people play in a style they choose.
My theory about the bunker (could be wrong) is that it’s where General John McGrew went after everything was going down. It’d make sense for the bunker to pop up in the new zone being added, but would be even more insane of an egg hunt if it was placed in the existing map. Another thing I’m curious about is the mystery elevator in the one military research base/center. I FEEL like it’s got to involve prying the doors open and using a rope to get down there… but again, speculations. Excited, honestly!

I'm pretty much blind without my glasses, so that visual effect is pretty much spot on
im so excited to play build 42. i've never played multiplayer bc of the clint sync issues, so i really hope they get those ironed out.
"The vision effect is a little extreme" Bro I have glasses, this vision effect would be the most realistic thing in the game lol. The world looks EXACTLY LIKE THAT without my glasses.
The crafting change makes sense from a reality perspective, though I guess they could have made it possible to work on the ground as well with a speed penalty. Hitting nails in a baseball bat without a supporting surface is almost impossible, not to mention the number of hands needed to hold a bat, a hammer and a nail at the same time.
totally hyped for build 42. This game is THE BEST zombie simulation out there.

As someone who occasionally does deaf&blind runs using mods for the horror of it, I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with regarding vision-related traits etc
I just bought this game a week ago and I am so obsessed with it. It’s such a good game!! Now when an update comes in like this one that will change the game will I have to start a new game?
I hope the "crafting needing a table" change doesn't affect every weapon. It's totally feasible to walk slightly ahead of some shamblers, while sharpening a stick, to make a crafted spear in pinch; or to quickly tape that knife to it to make it deadlier. Maybe there could be some sort of nerf to the spear if you craft it this way, as you wouldn't be able to finely sharpen the point in a hurry, or fasten the knife to the stick as securely. But some in-combat crafting and repairs should be allowed.
i really hope they fix the vertical noise travel issues with this update. I should be able to make noise in my bunker or skyscraper without having a horde rush me😄
I love how the devs work hand in hand with modders. Unlike other titles that, although open for modding, don't really make it easier for modders
is better synchronization also going to include better vehicle synchronization?
As bad vision owner I can say that glasses loss effect shown in the video feels realistic 😅
I really hope some of the server help and multiplayer upgrades coming will involve split screen support for servers. Right now my BF and I want to play on a server but sadly the second player is always deleted after logging off, loot and all. It sucks as we currently only have one PC and use our controllers to play which is rather enjoyable!
Cool stuff here. Really hope the new debug will also mean am Option to toggle it in-game will be present as I never got it to work with the commands and it would be great to have it for my 302 mods.
that glasses effect is pretty much spot on. However obviously needs to be tuned down a bit. as a 4 eyed person myself, I approve.

there could be two negative skills for vision depending on the level of blurryness when not wearing glasses
It'd be cool to have the ability in the negative traits to go with long sighted OR short sighted or some form of variation, like, I wear glasses but if I were to lose them I can still see a good 20 meters infront of me I just cant read past 10 or so but if I were in zomboid I'd still *have* glasses
i came to the realization what happens if we collide a car with some down stairs hopefully it will have a similar effect to some up stairs and dont get stuck they could make it work like a worse ramp but i can see many people driving to far and getting stuck locking them out of or into their bunker
In regards to crafting, i think it would be best that you can still craft anywhere but with crafting speed differences and penalties when crafting with/without a table and other requirements.
if you can dig and build your own bunkers.. that would be amazing
Would be nice to get several versions of sight traits. The more blind, the more intense the effect is and the more points you get for it. That way people can choose how much of a handicap theyre willing to put up with

with the 4k ui upgrade, do we know if we get options to scale the different parts of the ui or is it locked to the resolution? i really want a feature to make som parts of the ui smaller or bigger
What would be cool if they implement npc's and maybe factions they could create underground base full of remaining survivors under military base. Watched some video theorizing about it.
If there's ever a zombie apocalypse I'm dressing like a scientist to confuse everyone. Also I can absolutely make a PB and J while walking in the street and can probably hammer some nails in that sandwich too.
if they are making it so you need a table to make special weapons i would add more special weapons to make the change less jaring, maybe take a look at the weapons from Dead Rising.

Do we know if the UI scaling would help with couch-play at lower resolutions (such as 1080p?). Zomboid is pretty rough to play on a TV from the couch, I think some config files can be edited a bit, but the icons and other elements don't scale with the text.
for a near sighted person, the foraging mode is a more accurate depiction (just the blurring, not the brightness) of glass-less vision than the 'blur everything' that was shown. and invert the blur-clear overlay for far-sighted people
The bunker Is either great or terrible. If the Door at the entrance Is indestructible Is great, the perfect hiding spot(Minus not having food source unless indoor farming Is a thing). Otherwise if the Door can be destroyed...well It Is a deathtrap
Things i want to see in the game: - Coffee machines acting like a coffee machine capable of interacting with coffee beans and making a pot of coffee valued at (x many mugs) instead of requiring me to make each mug of coffee by hand, and not as an oven i can put a roast inside and cook. - The ability to interact with guns the way i interact with a car, and be able to dismantle them and change out stocks and pins and things as they break instead of having a million magnums looted from dead cops i need to store in crates in to replace the one im using when its condition falls too low etc. - A properly interactive first aid skill, in previous updates cutting yourself and getting an infection from it would kill you. Infections now are mostly harmless so long as you bandage it, you have all the time in the world to disinfect it with only combat skills being impacted. How dangerous an infection, and the chance of a cut becoming infected should be determined by first aid level. The consequences of infections should be greater than they currently are in game and the importance of treating injuries seriously should be enforced (its an apocalypse for god sake) - fleshed out electrical skill, i should be able to make pipe bombs and IED's with 10 electrical skill even if im not an engineer, its silly that someone who is meant to know everything about electronics cant then also know how to make all the bombs just because he didnt pick a starting profession.

4:23 but I can assume you can destroy middle wals between rooms? Or no walls or anything at all? Like for example you want to live down there and tehre are 2 rooms next to eachother I hope you can at least destroy the middle wall to connect the 2 rooms and make a bigger room.... 9:37 Yeah I hope they better make "short sighted" perk like 6 points or something because now its 2 and almost free points. If its that heavy or close to it 2 points isnt worth it... I always pick short sighted so I hope it will be somewhat allright.

5:20 I mean Imagine you have a baseballbat with nails on it and you are smashing some zombies, a few of your nails pop off. But hey you're smart and brought a hammer and some extra nails. Then the hard surface is the surface you are walking on. or a desk or the hood of a car. I dont see any reason why its not possible to hammer in some nails into your bat while you managed to get some extra room between you and the Z's
If adding in a video engine… That means we could have movies and stuff
Me personally, I wish they split B42 up into smaller updates than have one big one. It keeps the game interesting.

First half of this year has been confirmed. No reason to hold off, just be prepared to start a new game when the update drops if you're running mods.

Assuming we still cant bring a generator into the bunker, how will they work with bunkers? Since they power stuff 2 floors up and down around them. If this is still the case then bunkers will either becoming impossibly dark once the power goes out, or there is like a surface level static generator specifically made for the bunker.
