Project: SV650 ZX10R Rear Shock Swap (Installation)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is the second video documenting the SV650 ZX10R rear shock swap. In the first video I talked a little about why I chose to do the swap and how to reset the shock to its default settings. In this video I show the actual installation of the shock as well as problems I came across.
I followed the instructions from this SVRiders thread:

7 years later - still helping people replace their shocks :D thanks a ton. By far the clearest video on this process.

I did a quick ride after the install. First off, I immediately felt the geometry difference due to the extra 1/2 inch in the ZX10R shock. It brought my riding position higher and made me lean into turns quicker. In terms of suspension, the ZX10R rear shock makes riding smoother. I feel I need to get it professionally tuned because I guessed the settings based on the ZX10R manual for a 150 lb rider. The difference in weight between the SV and the ZX should also be taken into account.

Thank you for documenting this procedure. Going to be doing the rear shock swap on my 1st gen sv650 and was able to get a few good tips from your video.

SO did putting it up on the swingarm stand negate having it on the jacks?

great video! Think I might go and try to swap out my shock today.. Question: When you mention lowering the swing arm to make it fit correctly, you mean to just move the swingarm until the dogbone links line up properly with the shock mount, correct?

Hi, great video of the zx10r shock swap. Since the length of the shock is a bit longer than stock, how did it affect the head angle, ride height and handling?

Stock front sprocket, Vortex 44T rear, stock chain. I believe it is best practice to replace the entire drive at the same time but I only replaced my rear because my stock rear sprocket (which was still in good condition) got a ton of black paint on it which i couldnt remove and it bothered me =P

@@TheDeceptikron : I have a 2018 sv650,, I used a GSXR 750 rear shock.. perfect fit.... but it was a little tricky to get in. you need to loosen the battery box from the top. then lift the box a little to get the gsxr shock in.

Nope or else I definitely would not remove it. I can't quite figure out why Suzuki decided to add this extra piece of plastic to the battery box. I have ridden without the piece for about 2 months now with no problems and this included a couple of long rides (~3+ hours) with partial rain.
