To be fair, he did agree with his wife regarding Mafuyu becoming a doctor is better than a nurse or it was him who suggested it. But, i guess he didn't exactly realize that that one thing he said to her was making Mafuyu to suffer a lot and because he works all the time, he doesn't have a lot of time for his family to know what's really happening to them. However, being able to see and understand that his daughter was in such a lot of pain, that's a good first step to indicate that he is a good parent unlike a certain someone. Of course, this could change if that woman tried something funny which could make him go against Mafuyu under a wrong pretense of the situation.

@@joshuaamadeusishak1887 he's probably more of an accidental enabler and only now realizes the damage it has done to his daughter. From the sound of it he seems to be traveling a lot and most likely received very biased views from Mafuyu's mother, so he wasn't able to keep track of Mafuyu's deteriorating mental health until now. Honestly the whole taking sides thing like you mentioned does make me really worried because of how easily things could go wrong, even if he is willing to listen

Is he a much better dad than mafumom?? Yes. But was he a good a parent?? Yeah… not really. He has potential to be an amazing father, but his negligence and ignorance so far is definitely why mafuyu became the way she is presently. He’s the kind that would listen to both parties, atleast imo. He would buy mafuyu a synthesiser if she wanted it but he would also allow mafumom to pressure mafuyu. He’s in the gray area, and is unfortunately leaning towards the black edge. Hopefully he realises his mistakes and stands up to his wife, and becomes a better dad. I truly hope he does !!

Trust me I would know, my dad wasn’t really that present in my life and the more I grow the more I realise just how much it’s affected me 😭😭 he’s always been better than Mafumom tho, and he is definitely is getting better now, since he’s paying attention to Mafuyu. I think he’s an ok dad atm, but he’s definitely also at fault for Mafuyu and her mental state.

It’s cuz he’s a dad. The same fanbase completely disregards Toya and Ena/Akito’s abusive fathers, as well as Mafudad’s actions up until this point. But were also quick to admonish Ena’s and An’s mother for not having as much relevance despite being good parents whenever they do show up and were never said to be bad parents. Cuz I guess fathers don’t have to raise their children.

That being said we don't know anything about Akito's relationship with his father so I could be wrong.

He doesn't really seem that bad, ignorant and neglectful? Sure he doesn't seem like he really interacted with her much, but he seems like he actually loves and cares about her. He also seems like he genuinely wants to make amends for his mistakes and fix his relationship with Mafuyu, while also giving her time and allowing her to live with Kanade (and maybe giving her financial support).

Ive seen a couple people saying that mafuyus dad is an 'absent father' kind of thing because he didnt notice until now and while that might not be entirely untrue, its worth pointing out that mafuyu tricked EVERYONE she knew for ages and even niigo only found out cuz of the sekai but yeah anyways im glad mafuyus dad is on her side i think he will be a big help and support in mafuyus recovery

I'm glad someone else mentions this. Mafuyu is like an oscar-worthy actress. Emu is literally the only person who ever saw anything remotely wrong with her and she's too stupid to try and find out what it is. If her dad is evil just for not noticing her pain, so are literally all her "friends" at school and her teachers. By that logic even Ichika and Shizuku who interact with her at school are horrible people.

@@joakkar i dunno if it's fair to call emu stupid. she's very intelligent and perceptive, that's how she can notice that mafuyu's smile "isn't real" in the first place. (also, she's stated in the story on a couple of occasions to be a very competent academic who made top three in the miya girls exams). she only decided not to act on it because the other niigo members explicitly told her not to worry too much about it

@@Kaius. Except she didn't even know Mafuyu was associated with niigo until they went to PXL a lot later in the story. In fact she did try to act on it before. By telling her one bad joke and gifting her caramel candy once. The point is Emu can't help Mafuyu because she's already bad at communicating with humans on a base level and all her ideas to help are incredibly pointless to the actual problem.

I'm glad that the father is more understanding than the woman. That woman is doing a lot of things to his daughter and ended up causing her to break mentally. Also this does answer the question on how Mafuyu was able to get new clothes and go to school without worrying on going back and meeting "her" again

I remember in a flashback to when Mafuyu told her parents she wanted to be a Nurse, after Mafuyu's mother started to pressure her to be a Doctor, her father was willing to let her be what she wanted and that it was okay if she didn't want to be a Doctor before her mother cuts in and continued to pressure her.

something I noticed is that mafuyu doesnt put on a happy show for mafudad, which could honsetly mean she trusts him a lot more than mafumom, and I can see why I relate to mafuyu so much its painful good job mafudad, im happy to see mafuyu has a normal parent

He’s 100 times better then the Tenma parents, I can forgive him for not knowing about Mafuyu and Mafumom situation before and he’s doing something to stop it once he knows about it. The Tenma parents literally left a toddler alone at home and it’s very dangerous. I understand that they’re worried about Saki, but leaving a toddler alone at home is as dangerous. He uses denial as his coping mechanism since he was a child. Mafuyu and Tsukasa having their own sekai makes sense since they’re both people pleasers. However the only difference is Mafuyu is aware about what’s happening, she had unwillingly became a puppet to her mom, to the point she doesn’t know about her true self, hence the empty sekai reflects on how she feels. Hoping Mafudad will help her. Tsukasa on the other hand, chose to be a puppet to everyone, using the “I’m a star” excuse to escape reality. He forces himself to feel happy and act silly to make people smile, hence the wonderland sekai. In the end big W to Mafudad and big L to Mafumom and Tenma parents

and it's better than emotional manipulation 🤷 even though mafuyu's father goes out on business trips and rarely comes home, it's still better than manipulating your daughter and breaking her mentally. He genuinely understands and cares for his daughter, he understands she needs time for herself, she needs distance to be able to think properly and recover and it's fine with him. unlike mafuyu's mother who fakes it all and makes sure she's the center of her child's world

@@N95j - and Mafuyu always puts on an act whenever she's around her parents so no one really knew. Hell, not even 25ji themselves knew until later on because Mafuyu still kept her "Good Girl" facade even in the Sekai.

My two cents: Although it’s clear that MafuDad’s been absent for work, he seems forgivable. He looks like the only working person of the family, and it should be a lot to be the only provider. He was a but pushy with Mafu at first, but he allowed her to take her time with her feelings and recognized that he messed up. Definitely one of the better parental figures of PSK.

Kanade will always have my utmost respect. It’s genuinely scary for a child to have to explore the world alone because their parents are not there to support them. The fact that Kanade was there by her side, giving her the support and warmth that Mafuyu’s parents never gave her is always going to be something that stands out to me above all else

considering how he's been an absent parent and has so far only heard mafumoms side of the story, his view on the situation is most certainly going to be biased, which is why it might seem like he's agreeing with her. i dont think he's enabling mafumom either seeing as he was never really there to see the full extent of what she's done to mafuyu. he really gives me good vibes and i hope to see him stick up for mafuyu later on cuz it really seems like he genuinely cares about mafuyu and her wellbeing. the fact that he entrusted kanade to look after her for the time being despite not really knowing who she is (in fact if mafumom has told him about kanade im sure he's only heard negative things about her) shows that he trusts not only kanade, but also mafuyu and recognizes that this is the best thing to do at the moment.

Kanade is such a good friend and Mafudad is such a good dad

My respect went up went he said "I was wrong of your mum" but then it flew back down when i heard "i was for your own good" and it went up again when i heard "Its ckear that you need time"

Even when Mafuyu was fake smiling for him, I had a feeling she seemed just a little more comfortable around him than her god-awful excuse of a mother. It’s heartwarming to see that despite how he had no idea how severe Mafuyu’s depression was, he still genuinely cares and wants her to be safe above all else. He still seems to have that “your mom was just trying to look out for you” mentality, but I get a feeling he’s really gonna see just how untrue it is later down the line. As soon as her mom flips out again about Mafuyu not pursuing the career her mom wants her to pursue, I think her dad will see just how much Mafuyu’s mom actually “cares”

see this is good representation, i swear like it can be hard to find with how normalized emotional/general ca is. like, in school they had us read a book with graphic scenes of the mc physically and emotionally hurt by her mom, but they ended it with the basic "family loves you❤❤" ending and nobody seemed to realize how messed up it was 😭

Hmmm, he seems sympatheti and understanding but imma hold judgment till he actually does something. You can be as understanding and showig care all you want, but if you dont do anything or take action against abuse, idk divorcing mom or taking an a more active role parenting, it means nothing and does nothing

Alot of ppl forgot that it was mafuyu dad who to mafuyu her stuff in the first place in case she had interest in music. Unfortunately he's not home alot so and it was referenced in the mafuyu mum line were she was too busy with buisness. Mafu dad has a high demanding job 😢

Mannn I'm so glad he can listen to reason and truly cares about Mafuyu. He probably only knows the story from the mom's perspective and is busy due to work but I hope that he can learn the whole story and be on Mafuyu's side in the future

I relate to mafuyu alot story wise, my mom was that exact way but worse. My dad was kinda the same, tho he never financially supported me growing up he did find out about how my mom was treating me and tried to talk to her, but only made things worse. He was absent but understood and listened like how an adult should. I however am still cautious of mafudad, i dont know if he'll try to convince mafuyu back to her mom, he himself fall victim to mafumom's manipulation. I just cant trust adults like yall do. Of course my dad loved me but that doesn't mean he gets away from judgement. A parents absence during abuse is also apart of the cycle, mafuyu has had to endure, no one older that would listen, to talk to, to spend time with, to realize what a normal parent lives and acts. He too has caused her pain. Mafudad is guilty too

He did at least relent when he saw that Mafuyu was still in so much emotional pain that going home to see her mom wouldn't be a good idea, but honestly, the whole focus on "we should talk things out with your mom, we should work on this together," rings hollow when Mafuyu's mom refuses to acknowledge she's done anything wrong and will just try to manipulate Mafuyu again if Mafuyu and Mafudad try to talk with Mafumom. It just reminds me of the whole "She's your mom; you should accept her flaws and try to reconcile with her," "They're your family; why can't you just talk to them?" that I've gotten in the past when I've tried to explain how my parents were abusive. I know that there's a cultural difference, but still. Mafuyu shouldn't have to talk to her mom or reconcile with her, especially when Mafumom blames Mafuyu for being a bad girl and Nigo for Mafuyu acting out and refusing to acknowledge the sheer pressure, emotional abuse, and emotional neglect Mafumom put Mafuyu through. ...I suppose that's just my opinion, though.

Thank god Mafudad is actually nice. Hopefully he can talk some sense into his wife. Mrs. Asahina did soften at the end of the chapter when Kanade tells her Mafuyu ran away to her house, so I think there's hope for character development like Mr. Shinonome and Mr. Aoyagi.

Hmmm, still not sure how I feel about Mafuyu's dad. This is a single interaction, so it's not enough for me to paint him as a good guy or a bad one. I hope he actually does talk with Mafuyu's mom and more things are revealed, and later on when he and Mafuyu talk again it's about what they (him and Mafuyu) should do going forward. Like, should Mafuyu just live with Kanade until she's done with Miyagirls? Should they get an apartment together? Should he move into Kanade's house as well? Should they move back into their house and kick Mafuyu's mom out? He *seems* nice but I don't want to get my hopes up too soon just because he does.

I think you forgot but in the first unit stpry he has a short line where he said its okay if mafuyu wants to be a nurse instead
