Project Runway Winners That Fell Off The Face Of The Earth

Ойын-сауық

One day you’re in and the next you’re out. For winners of the long-running design competition series “Project Runway,” leaving the final runway with a huge prize package seems like the beginning of a successful career. Unfortunately, not every winner gets to make it to New York Fashion Week a second time.
For these former “Project Runway” stars, the fashion industry has been less than kind. And while some have simply shifted their focus to fashion instruction, others have left the industry completely: here are the “Project Runway” winners that fell off the face of the earth.

I won't choose just one, but three. Chloe Dao, Kentaro and Shantall. Siriano was amazing, of course. But a little too much boy wonder for me. He's a very talented hustler. Emilio Sosa is gorgeously gifted. He shouldn't have toned it down for his finale runway. He's a very successful costume designer on Broadway. Two time Tony nominated and very busy. (I know he didn't win PR:)

It’s kind of like winning is a curse…apparently until recently all the “winners” had no ownership rights for their designs for anything they did. Tim Gunn had to quit to get them to change that and he forced them to make it retroactive to the first contract any designer contestant had with them. They agreed but then reneged and he had to quit a second time to force it to happen.

Making clothes for the masses isn't what "high" fashion is all about. Of course nobody would wear most of what you saw on PR or any runway (couldn't even begin to afford it mostly and how many of us are 6'2" and weigh 100 pounds!). It's all about showing your creative style and talent and "eye" for what can be done fashion wise. It's a big "sell". See us? This is what we can do.

I respected Project Runway after Gretchen Jones win. Why? Because they chose substance over style. Mondo was good and well liked but Gretchen had an evolved artistic POV that the fashion industry was lacking. Nobody was selling quality clothing design of that indigenous American style at the time. The panel bemoaned her but she remained steadfast against their attempts to alter her artistic vision. It wasn't till the final battle that they realized how good she was.
