Thats why i love the game. It could be ran by everyone. Too bad its so nice and the community dies. I hope it gets remastered and ported to steam.

PR is just so old and relatively niche that the community is naturally friendly and relatively like minded, Squad will get there eventually. Just gotta weed out the dissidents.

@@chrisrm18 yeah you right, but you kinda missed my point. Most of the games today are usually made to make sales, and if it's not, then it is being shut down. There's a lot of examples of that even if there were a thousand core players willing to play them. On the other hand PR wasn't and is kept alive due to the devs who are doing it in their spare time non profit, a bunch of people loving the game and server owners willing to pay for the server.

​@@LostMachinimaThé SQUAD BETA 9.12 was totaly différent yes. Player base count 3k players in 2017. Actually the New community, his old expérience since thé RELEASED of SQUAD, and his density, has an impact on thé META of the game.

I'm quite fond of PR graphics, they have that nostalgic feeling to them, they run perfectly on pretty much any PC and the maps are more detailed than Squad

@@viliussmproductions yea sqd art direction is really bad, I think one reason is it tried to hard to copy PR visually but with overhauled graphics.

This still remains one of my favourite games of all time, if not the greatest. I've bought Squad back in 2015 praying it would turn out to be just like it, sadly it's missing that secret sauce like you said at the start and it's almost been 10 years. I'm thinking about returning home

@@Gator___ The suppression system is the factor that makes it different. That being said, they are not laser beams right now anyhow. The cone of spread is still quite high. The thing everyone forgets is that stationary positioning (bipods) gives you the edge in a first strike scenario, but after that you are the no.1 target, and getting a chance to fire back after that first reload is almost impossible. So if there is solid suppression as an MG covering the rest of the squad is worth it a lot if you are in a position like that, until you can maintain it, that is. To summarize my thoughts, against a good squad or players, being bipoded is a problem, but it is good if you get the first shot and maintain suppression while your squad gets maneuver and position advantage. That to me is a good mechanic.

@@MartinNephilim Honestly I have no problem has an MG gunner in squad, people are complaining constantly that like you said, "You can only get that first shot and everything else will miss because of the spread" or perhaps the suppression but the biggest mistake I see a lot of MG gunners in squad do is that they spray the target even when they're suppress it. Fire it like you would in real life which is Small bursts, if you want to know exactly when to stop firing then start firing again repeat these words in your head "Die mother****er die" thats how i count it and I get pretty accurate shots, and if that's not helping you a more simple way to count just fire 4 shots per burst but wait 1 second after that burst.

played this game for years. its almost hard not to make good friends. love the community!

Everything was deadlier in PR. The AR was this way because of engine limitations. Anti Tank was super deadly and people actually ran away from Armored Vehicles instead of chasing them down solo

I hope the Squad devs will work on the Insurgency mode in Squad next year. Also someone might want to explain PR's "bipod" mechanic.

I really hope in 10 to 15 years to come we can still hop on PR and have a good time

whats going on with BF3 reality mod? how is it compared to PR?

i think some of the things that are missing to truly capture the PR "magic" lies in its aesthetics and sounds. PR just sounds so much more "punchy" and bold and brutal compared to squads soft and squishy gun sounds. PR just sounds better. and the aesthetics or the visuals of PR i would argue are much more "brutal" aswell. with deep browns and greens with the game looking very dirty and mature overall compared to squads unreal engine cookie cutter look where everything looks hella bright and vibrant and not as war torn as PR portrays. you simply cant just put a games similar mechanics into another game and expect the same emotional appeal without also correcting the aesthetics and sound designs of the previous game. that is not how it works. and i completely disagree i think PR looks absolutely amazing with what it is trying to portray. yes it is simple given the tech at the time but the overall look of the game is much more in line with a brutal and beatdown war simulation than squads sunny fantasy land look it has going on. PR is just more gritty looking in it appeal

I love PR but have my core memories (being in Finest's units a decade ago) corrupted it? I really want to play again and get that freshness back but it can be a drag joining a server mid-game. It can be hard to play without that core coordination too, hence why I often only resurface for one-life events. I need some motivation and encouragement to play PR again, despite longing that experience so much; please motivate me Sir Slorgs

Lmao what is this, I dont understand ICO fanboys when they whine about squad not being more like its original inspiration, but then you realize PR has the recoil of a game more like insurgency (Punchy but very managable). I just dont see how the gunplay in this game compares to squads newest vision of "prolonged gun fights" when it seems like you die instantly more often in PR.

I remember that PR players communicate with each other better than Squad ones . And I haven’t seen a lot of stupid matches in PR as in the Squad …

It looks different because of the weapon sway. Project Reality uses random bullet deviation that is only visible from the white boxes at the bottom of the screen.

Ideally if any of project reality's player base knows how to develop games they should port it to unreal or build it from scratch on a platform with more modern graphics. I would switch from squad in a heartbeat.

To anyone that seems confused about laserbeam MG I've been PR players for years and no, MG might looks like laser beam, but its not, longer you hold its just going everywhere. I assume people thouht so due to PR lack of sway, but its the minus of it, old engine can't replicate sway and hand movement like in Squad. And "bipod" in PR can be deployed in any stance and why I more think its more like bracing the MG thightly than actual Bipod drop like in Squad. Slorgs could nail far away enemy just by short burst

One problem with squad is that it doesn't run on a potato, which I think matters a lot more than the most developers who all have really powerful gaming rigs realize. I think at the end of the day people who play niche realistic-ish shooters are going to care far more about consistent FPS and performance than super pretty graphics. If anything simpler graphics are more readable. The graphics aren't great, but they are better than battlebit, I don't know how much graphics matter in terms of raw fidelity (on a more subject aesthetic level I think its important for a game to have an appealing style though).

Personally i prefer art style than raw graphics. Pr despite being a very old game and is bad in terms of raw graphics the art style is still good. The texture despite being low poly is good enough. Maybe a little beautification of the texture can be good.

Project reality is way more complete, squad doesn’t have drivable cas or planes also tanks doesn’t have thermals which it makes the game ten times different, not enough factions squad has a long road ahead and they’re nowhere close to the project reality stage at this point and probably never will because they’re probably afraid of drastic changes and it can lead to a player base drop. So I guess they’ll keep it as it is with only small updates on factions and new weapons & maps.

I wish it run under linux

i just wish deviation wouldnt be such a nuisance in both games

Damn people are very salty about the mg arguments. In squad, full auto is much more feasible than PR. We see slorgs bursting all the time here, cause after the first 5-6 bullets youre losing quite a lot or accuracy. Of course, in both games its a 5.56 mg, not exactly a high recoiling gun

Weird, but PR looks way easier to me now after the ICO dropped.

I really disliked the 6.1. The ICO 6.0 was a new game almost, finally players were working as a team. With the 6.1 patch, its still the same run and gun squad

I can only find servers full of russians who kick me out of the squad when i speak english.

Battlefield 2 and Project Reality are unique and designed in a way of community, single-player, modding, coop, and large scale battles you can play with friends... This formula is unbeatable after 15 years and BF2 still better than any other game, even graphics is old.(shaders and textures mods are your friend - game can look way better). After 3.5K hours in Squad- this game is dead for me.... I would look up more to BF3 Reality mod - it has same feeling. Or just go to Operation Harsh Doorstop - its free game and Bludrake came from BF2\PR scene - he knows what's what... Don't waste your time for OWI - they never listen smat people, silence them, never fix bugs or deliver what was promised by original roadmaps (jets,heli's, bigger maps etc.)

What the game lacks are skilled players to take SL role and lead less skilled and teach others by example. I wish I had more PR experience (very roughly 300 hrs INF only) with squad leading even tho I'm learning from others but it frustrates me when there's quick APC Tank Trans squad while rest of the team is waiting almost whole pre-round for INF squad. Then comes a chaos who goes where etc. or you get no-mic SLs that dont communicate and it's not a fun match.

@@KillroyLP I'm very apprehensive to start SLing but I think im gonna have to I have a good bit of hours but it's over a long period so I feel like I've spent a lot of time relearning stuff. Think a new clan might be a good idea or reviving an existing one. Get some tourneys on the go etc.

This game looks nice but has absolutley no lighting

Project reality: seconds after the intro, guy jumps over a fence in 0.3seconds A few moments later - bullets that define gravity. Also project "reality" - no fatigue, any junk movement.. including aiming, God-SA (arcade) mini map, magic radio, etc,etc. Communities? QuakeWorld had a good one. Arma3 still has. But time goes on. Pick reality or fun, or mix them - there are options. #waiting4arma
