This will one of the best e39s in the country!
Another great video PM. You’ll be driving this E39 for many years to come and won’t have a worry at all. One of the nicest E39s west of the Mississippi. Keep these videos coming and keep any dark fluids from running down your driveway! 👍
it's a treat watching your car fixing video. I have had a 2002 E39 530 since 2015 and have done the repair myself. Wish could have the work done at your quality level. Great work!
Great tutorial, I too have the same model and color, '03 530i 5sp M Sport Package. re: separating frozen parts. Equal parts ATF and Acetone. The acetone is the carrying agent which allows the ATF to penetrate deep within the microscopic pores of the metal. Applying liberally overnight on toughest jobs but an hour before for most. Has never failed me on the toughest jobs. 😉 Again, awesome tutorial 👍🏼
the steel insert coming out with the ball joint - I had a similar problem with the front suspension on a VW Passat, the insert came off on the control arm. it was so difficult to remove the control arm from the steering knuckle, I had called it a day and disposed of the old worn part (with the insert still on it). a few days later, when I went back to install the new control arm, the insert was gone. to make matters worse, of course the insert was unavailable by itself so I had to buy a used steering knuckle off eBay just to get a knuckle with the insert; a new knuckle was available, but it cost something like $600-$700 iirc. a valuable lesson learned

Oof...I'm sorry to hear that. I find it incredible you can't buy the inserts by themselves for the E39 either. I'd think someone could make a business out of manufacturing those since it seems such a common problem.
I'm glad I had my eye drops nearby, because I did NOT want to blink! Great work, Sir!

Lol. Thank you good Sir!
I’m jealous of that find. Nice work too. I appreciate your thoroughness.
Awesome vids i have a 528i aut as daily driver 100 km each day never had any problems
Great vid series! I just would t have used anti seize on coated rotors. It could induce vibration.
Dont put Copperpaste between the hub and the Brake disc. There should be friction between them. If you have something between you allow for micro movement and the screws can get loose after a while.
Great E39! Avoid to use the copper grease in contact with aluminium parts. It will cause contact corrosion on your rims. Take something with graphite or ceramic istead. Regards from Germany!

Good to know, thank you!
If you lived closer I’d have you over to look at my Z32 brakes which I’m tearing down a rebuilding (seals and all). Fun project replacing the brake lines, seals, pads, rotors and booster. I bet we’d see this video one day with your Z32

Sounds like a big job! I did something similar on my Z a couple months back but you're going a few steps further though replacing the caliper seals and brake booster. Nice work!
As a owner of 3 e39's can I advise you remove the plastic rocker guards underneath and fully clean everything out as they hold the dirty and debris and causes jacking points to rot

I did that in a previous video, but still a good tip 👍
Jebus! That ball joint looked as dangerous as separating a spring from a strut!

I know! I wasn't expecting it to put up such a fight. But, bonus points for explosions.
гут, молодец!
can you let me know what is the Rim style you have? also, is that an 18" rim?
Are the brake sensors only on one side? I have to do the front pads and rotors on my 525i

That's correct, only on one side.
Woah!! A 30 pin dock connector?! lol Do you charger your iPhone 4 on there?

An iPad 2 actually. It's the sacrificial garage web browser tool of choice. Lol
