Project Car Fiesta ST Gets COBB Stage 2! Before/After Dyno

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

With 3,600 miles on the odometer, we take cameraman Thaddeus's 2014 Ford Fiesta ST in to COBB Tuning SoCal for the first-ever Stage 2 upgrade. We got an intercooler, cold air intake and their new off-the-shelf map for the V3 Accessport, then threw it on the dyno to see the very impressive results. All parts are prototypes and therefore will not look as pretty as the finished products, but they certainly work!

    I can't help but think that a car like this Fiesta ST is the most fun to drive in the real world. I believe that fun-wise, it will hold its own even when compared to supercars like the McLaren P1. I've driven quite a few fast cars back in the day and now this is the conclusion I've come to. Well done Ford, for keeping the hot hatch segment alive.

    Man, I've had my eye set on a FieSTa to replace my Turbo Neon for a while now. It's nice the FieSTa is as underrated in power as it is because it probably makes 10hp and 20tq more than my Neon does 8 years and 110,000 miles later. All while being like, 300 pounds lighter too.

    I just got a 2015 fiesta st. Coming back and seeing these numbers is crazy. I'm in a cold Wisconsin climate, car has CPE intercooler, intake, catless DP, full straight pipe. It has a stratified 93 octane stage 2 (I think somewhat custom tune by previous owner) and it pulls like crazy. I want to get on a Dyno soon and see what it's making, I bet it's 220+ whp and 270-280wheel torque if we base it off of the colder temps and such up here.

    +KieranHancock a radiator cools the engine coolant (water not air) using the ambient air temp. An intercooler uses the same method to cool the charged air that will go into your engine. The air gets hot because it is compressed and travels through the hot turbo. The intercooler helps to lower the temp of the air before it enters the engine. Engines work based on heat expansion. Cold dense air + fuel + detonation = expanding hot air. You want really cold air going into the engine for max expansion. The radiator is keeping your engine from overheating. There is an optimum temperature for the engine itself, for the best environment for biggest expansion at the perfect time. So, a racing radiator is not gonna get you the gains. Get a High flow intake pulling in air from a cool place. They work the same for NA as Turbo. The turbo sees bigger gains because it is amplifying the effects. Look of forums and see which ones have been the best for your car and always be mindful that if you are sucking in air from the lower corner of your car that a big puddle can mean you suck water straight in.

    Matt, Love your FiST project- I've watched them all- great, usable information for those of us who are just starting ours! I'm looking to create a "surgical instrument"- daily driver with enhanced handling, braking, and- of course- powah! It will also be invisible to all except the most discerning eye. Since you've done all 3 stages of Cobb's power tuning, what would you recommend for quiet, enahanced power. I'm sure that I will need, at least, the following: 1) AccessPort Tuner. 2) Intercooler & pipe kit. 3) Downpipe. 4) Rear Engine Mount. I've noticed that your Stage II has quicker spool up, along with increased HP/tq numbers- so, that may be "enough" for his project. I'm a long term owner (250k + miles), so, all increases must be backed with cooler running. I may add an intake and add heat shielding to reduce charge temps- ugly looking, but, it DOES keep temps down. I've run I/C sprayers(MAF & MAP) in the past, and, guess that someone has or will produce one soon. I will probably install lowering springs & braided stainless steel brake lines, along with better pads along the way. I'd really like to move the battery to the trunk, or, preferably, under the rear seat. I'll go AGM or Li-Ion if there is no reasonable way to do it. Strangely, I'll add the heavy soundproof matting to all interior cabin surfaces to reduce noise, and, make sure that I get a FiST with a sunroof, but, will go to crazy lengths to both reduce weight and center it! Middleage, I think it's addled my brain. Any thoughts will be appreciated, along with any ideas that you have to acheiving the target. Silly, but, I'll probably add small wheel spacers as well- just enough to push the wheels out, but, not enough to have them banging against the outer fender. A front air splitter (how vintage 80's DTM cup can U get?), and, a color matched LARGER rear wing, or, winglet- should be enough to remain subtle, yet, different from the jellybean commuter... So, no Baby Vomit Green, or, Molten Orange Tri-color for this project...Thanks again, and, if there's a better way to reach you, lemme know! Thanks in advance, Dave P.S. At 52 years old- 5' 9" @ 170Lbs- I think I'd prefer the stock seats over the Recaros? I "fit", but, the seat is too high in it's lowest position, and, the shifter feels like it's miles away? I WANT the HID's, but, could care less about MYFORD stereo & enhanced SYNC stuff...They all come with blueooth, so, I can pair my phone...XM, Sirius, superwide band radio...who cares?

    +David C. Gulliver So I've had my FiST for about 2 months so take this with a grain of salt, but so far I've really enjoyed the mods I've done. I have the RMM and Short Shifter kit which was a good quality of life improvement from the stock shifter. My plans from the car now are in this order 1. Accessport with Protuen 2. Front Mounted Intercooler for the heatsoak problems our cars have 3. Tires From what I understand the DP can actually cause loss of power on stock turbo because you end up losing some boost pressure. This information is from one of the best tuners on the FiST platform Adam from Tune+.

  • @DCGULL01

    @DCGULL01

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Darin Bierbaum Good- so, I'm not interested in losing power- OR, pushing it further up the RPM band either. Small turbo means fast spool- and, there seems to be plenty of room for more remaining stock. I know (from other projects) about the HUGE improvement a RMM can make, and, a designed & balanced short shifter kit with bushings (both at shifter & at the transmission) can really make driving more fun as well. combined, they make the car feel like upper & lower strut tie bars have been added, and, the whole care feels more planted to boot. Intercooler is a no brainer to me, heatsoak kills power and turbos generate LOTS. A meth/H20 mister helps along with meth injection to reduce heatsoak. But, like Matt & others- who wants to refill the bottle all the time??? Hawk pads & braided SS brake lines improve bite and stopping... small improvements with NO offsetting compromises.

    I watched both videos since I own a 2014 Fiesta ST and I would have like to see you do the dyno without parts, then with parts, then with the tune. Is the tune even doing anything??

    I would like to see an exhaust too but an active one with high flow cats so its still pretty practical, hopefully it can boost the power up more because of how free that intake is but how choked it gets when it tries to expel what it just sucked in

    Hey I'm sure it's been asked but which intake and intercooler did you guys use? I'm looking for the same things you guys got but for my fiesta ST. Thanks in advance!

    hey matt, any word on a tune for the 1.6 liter ecoboost found in the fusion? i'm a proud owner of a 2013 fusion with this engine, and it's great around town but when you want to drive spiritedly it definitely could use some extra grunt.

    I don't really know, you'd have to ask Cobb. I'm sure they can pro-tune anything you bring them.
