Hey +Gingium, Not trying to troll you or anything, But that bar Is not intended to be a harness bar.... It's a body brace, to stiffen up the chassis. It isn't really intended to withstand the force of an accident. You might want to talk to your roll bar manufacture to see about getting a proper one to actually be safe. Just trying to keep you from getting hurt bud. Also 5 point is actually a safer bet then 4 point because it keeps you from submarining. If you don't know what I'm talking about go read up on it.

I wanted to say the exact same thing.

Why do people keep calling him a ricer? Just because he has a low hp car and doesn't have real power mods doesn't make him a ricer. I bet if he had a E36 m3 and did all these mods you wouldn't be calling him a ricer. Either way he's getting a turbo.

For anyone seeing this for the first time, please don't mount your harnesses to the stock "harness" bar. It's merely a chassis reinforcement, it is not designed to save you in a accident.

Check those wraps, they are unsafe, the bar is not designed for harnesses, and you shouldn't be running a 4 point harness, no anti sub system can kill you really quick. If it wouldn't pass tech, run away.

True. Gingium should explore what will happen in a front end collision. Driver may/will "submarine" under the lap belt. Shouldn't be too hard to install a sub belt as long as the Takata hardware has provisions for it.

The issue is the actual sub bar mount, just like harness bars there are a lot of shit ones out there, the safer if not less sexy option is the schroth anti sub 4 point system.

Anyway, I would totally trust it for harnesses, it's solid af. And I never understood how the 4 points would be more dangerous than normal seat belts. Why couldn't you also "submarine" on a normal belt, I don't see anything to prevent it.

dont you have to fold back the top straps once more so the leftover strap is going to the back of the car rather than facing the front?

Why didn't you reinstall the factory seat belts in with the harness loop bolts? Then you could have chosen between the security of the harnesses or the quick convenience of the regular seat belt.

@gingium just letting you know, if you want to run with any big track day organizations (NASA, SCCA, etc...) they won't allow you to run a 4 point harness, they must have the fifth point. Not telling you, just letting you know. Love your build by the way! 😊

No. It's intended to be a OEM chassis brace, to stiffen the chassis up a little reducing the flex from being a soft top car.

Okay so i have a harness bar and I need to wrap the harnesses around the bar. I want to order new takata harnesses but they have bolt in/snap on mounts/plates at the top. is there a way to take them off or do i need to specifically order the strap itself and not the bolt/snap in hardware,

The harness hardware can be removed. Then wrap the harness around the bar and use the hardware to secure it. Don't wrap it the way he did though.

I didn't think mounting harnesses to that factory "brace" was a safe practice? As for the rice factor, do you man, but do you safely.

Probably should have had either harness tabs or an actual harness bar built into that Hard Dog roll bar? I know that these are options that are offered. That weenie little support brace is not designed for supporting seat belt harnesses, like in your application. Even if you had a proper harness bar welded into the roll bar, now post-installation, that would be far superior. You went so far as to install a really nice, quality roll bar (not one of those cheap eBay top mounts!). To cut corners, now with your safety on the line, it just doesn't make sense. I hope you take this, constructively, as I intended it.

He's still young enough that he gets to spend money he earns on what he wants instead of having to pay rent and utilities and junk at his own place, so it means he can put it into proper parts for the car. Not to mention that Mariner Blue is a fairly rare color and being as clean as his is, even more so. I'm glad he isn't trashing it.

Just another +1 saying that if you’re thinking of using the body brace as a harness bar, please don’t. It’s not designed to withstand the the forward force the belts put on it in the event of a crash. If the bar bends, you don’t stay put. Also the only 4-point you should consider using is a Schroth ASM. Otherwise you need a 5- or 6-point. Please don’t mess with safety equipment unless you follow the right steps. It’s not worth your life or you health. And always consider the risks inherent with changing factory safety gear.

its a little part that is designed to break on one of the upper shoulder straps to stop the drive from sliding down the seat and getting squashed on the center strap causing spine damage from the force of a head on crash

He doesn't have to worry about submarining, because he has the 5th strap, but unfortunately his passenger would. plus that's not an actual harness bar and should be replaced with a proper unit.

It's not all about going fast though. It's much more fun to push a car to it's limits all the time than driving a 1.000.000$ car which you can't use more than 50% of it's potential cause you're too afraid to wreck it. A slow car doesn't mean less fun.
