PROJECT ALIENS APC PART 4 ‘1/24 APC PAINTED & FINISHED’
Welcome to episode 4 in my latest build series. In this episode I paint and finish the 1/24 scale APC from the film ALIENS. The lighting is completed and the model is weathered. Then once the 1/16 scale radio controlled version is complete the files will be available to purchase and download from my website.

Originally, the color for the Pulse rifles was Humbrol 170 Brown Bess (a brownish olive drab color). They might have just carried that over to the model of the 1/12 APC. The color came out greener looking because if I remember correctly James Cameron used incense smoke on set and that might have affected the way the colors came through on film.

The lighting used in the movie made everything that was 'Brown Bess' seem greener than it was. There's still debate whether the Humbrol was the standard or some other paint, but things like the Pulse Rifle are definitely more on the brown spectrum than say, olive drab. On my Pulse Rifle, I used Archive-X brown bess acrylic.

Perhaps use an external Feature as a Switch for the Lighting? 🤔 Having to topple the Model over to fiddle around with the 9V looks like a R.F.P.I.T.A. 🤨 On my Tamiya RC King Tiger I've been using the Fire Extinguisher on the rear Engine Deck for that purpose with the Lever of the Switch for arming the Controller situated inside the Model going through the Deck and into the FE. Sliding it to one side will turn on the Model and sliding it to the other will turn it off. With it being a Display Model, it would also not hurt to have a Battery Bypass function for wiring it to a permanent electrical Source like say an USB Brick which was something I did for my 1/4 scale T-800 Endoskeleton hooking it up to a USB Port of the nearby PC.
@StaplesandVine

Recently discovered your channel and immediately subscribed. Your voice also make for a very pleasant narration (the youngsters would call it ASMR). Loved this series, the result is really impressive. That being said, I have a couple of notes: 1) Not a fan of the flat bottom. I realize you are not meant to look at it, but it would be nice to have some details, like tubes and cables. I imagine there is no much source material to work with, but it wouldn't matter much. 2) It's really a pity you worked so hard on the interior and then it is basically impossible to see it without dismantling the model. I realize it's not easy to design a realistic exterior and at the same time have a clear look on the inside. Maybe a removable roof? I was even thinking that some of the external sections could be made transparent, but that's probably too complicated, it would defeat the purpose to have a realistic model, and probably would have looked awful in the end. Still I wonder if there is some compromise to be found. I hope this comment didn't sound too critical, just a couple of thoughts I had while I was watching. Overall I enjoyed the videos a lot and I think the result is amazing. Looking forward for the radio controlled version!

Thanks for subscribing and taking such an interest in my work. I am lucky to enjoy what I do and fortunately others like it too. Re your points 1- Armoured vehicles are generally all flat and smooth on the underside for protection. Even modern performance cars are covered in with undertrays. 2- Yes removable panels would give a better view of the interior. Given the nature of 3D printing large parts and correcting fit issues this is best left to the end user and would be down to personal preference. I welcome healthy comment. Don't worry I'm more like Jonesy than a Xenomorph. 😁

Great looking model. Only APC model that looks right. The brown on the studio model must be for the stage. If you look at the Enterprise, X-Wing & Buck Rogers Thunder Fighter, none of the studio models are the white they appear on the screen. TIE Fighter studio models are litterally blue, but films neutral grey. The paint is for lights and camera, not for the eye.

Very good video thank you. As to the colour of the filming miniature. Cameron tends to give an icy blue colour to his films so this would have changed the colour of the miniature when filmed. You must also remember that the film is now heading to 40 years so the paint on the miniature would have changed. I doubt it has been cleaned or stored correctly so smoke dirt oil and grease would have changed it. Also even worse someone may have tried to restore it and did it badly ( a common occurrence unfortunately) Poor cleaning and a poor understanding of the actual colour used - as they used the colour they saw on the miniature in its current state, not actually as it was painted.
