Small but scary warrior of the Eastern Bloc's navies, We are investigating the Project 205-class missile boat. #project205 #Osa #missileboat
Why did the USSR lead the missile boat adventure?
What are the technical capabilities of the Project 205-class?
What was the Soviet Navy missile boat use doctrine?
What are the combat experiences of the Project 205 class?
Welcome to our new content. As the Weapon Detective, we are investigating modern weapon systems of the Second Cold War. The Weapon Legends is about older weapon systems. In our videos, we tell their epic stories which made them a legend. The Weapon Legends investigates these stories, reads between the lines, analyse, and tells the untold. In our videos, you can find technical information as well as historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. Let the wisdom of history show us what the future would be like. Let’s investigate the veteran weapons of the past together.

Odd how the "success" of the entire vessel is judged by the (IMO) success of the missle and radar systems it had on board at the time. I would have to say the vessel was a success and did exactly what was intended, but the end resulting overall effectiveness varied widely for various unrelated reasons.

This type of boat is still suitable to radical development and upgrades , and due to its size and small cross section, its electromagnetic signature can be reduced further in its two emission elements : the radar waves and generated infrared spectrums . The P-15 Termit missile is huge and it is one of the first generation of anti-ship missiles, and with the continued use of anti-ship missiles with horizontal launching modes and the presence of these missile boats in good numbers it can be developed to enhance it combat capabilities for the start by equipping those missile boats with later generation and more advanced anti-ship missiles for example kh35 with its 610 k.g vs the p-15 termit 2300 to 2500 k.g this mean they can armed those osa class missile boats with 4 kh35 missile for each p-15 termit it carry . And for example those kh-35 missile outperforming in many aspects even some modern anti-ship missile and those rules applies for YJ 83 missiles and other types of missiles especially of western origines which most characterized by its small dimension . Always And Forever May GOD Bless The Un United States Of HM Shninasios .....

So its basically a suicide boat. Get close, fire your missiles, and then run away before the enemy ships can shoot back. You'll lose a few ships and some sailors will die. But the government saved a lot of money and also destroyed a bigger enemy missile. Seems like a loss either way

These boats.& missiles are of the generation when boat based missile warfare was a paper concept for the western countries...For Harpoons there are definately Yakhonts & Sunburns to counter with...Probably a Zicron these days...Though not shown in this video a fleet of 2 such osa boats destroyed Karanchi harbor almost totally,& numerous western warships in Indo-Pak war of 71 forcing Pak army with up to date western weapons to surrender half of their country & a hundred thousand soldiers.

Harpoon has a range of nearly 70 miles. But the first Harpoons were delivered to US in 1977. In 1973, Israeli Saars destroyed a force of Osas and Komars mainly by using chaffing to make the Termit missiles miss. The Gabriel had a range of 22 km vs the 40+ km of the Termit.
