Project 2018 Harley Davidson Low Rider with Fueling - Thrashin Supply

Lance Coury took his 2018 Low Rider up to the high desert in Mojave, California to do cams, a high flow oiling system, big bore kit, and testing all new Thrashin Supply exhaust systems for the 2018. The team was able to come up with a really nice finished product after some dyno runs and testing. Pretty sure this is the fastest bike Lance has thrown a leg over ;). We started with 77HP & 100TQ, went from a stock 107” to a SE 114” Piston and Cylinders, made a prototype Thrashin Dual Stainless Exhaust, @feulingparts Oiling System w/ Reaper 465 Cam, Feuling Solid Push Rods, Beehive Valve Springs, Fresh Valve Job, K&N intake, TTS Tuner, tuned by Allon Mcbee of Stinger Engines and put down 113HP & 131TQ.

Hey mate, i love the skid coming out of that drive way. Is there any reason why you went with the 114 SE big bore kit and not the 124 S&S? Also did you use the Fueling valve springs or beehive which is in your description? Was the valve springs upgrade necessary, or just an upgrade?. Im about to do some mods to my Low rider. Are you still happy with everything. Seems to have some balls thats for sure

Is that a 2in2 exhaust without a collector? Are you planning on releasing this pipe? I hear 2 into 2s give good low down torque

Its always a good idea to keep the chain and put in cams with less than 0.500 lift. Anything more is just not worth the money if you want a fast bike.

So keep the chain drive and not go for the gear drive. Any problems with chain tensioner in the long run?

  • @DobermansRock

I don't know crap about the 8Balled up. I won't waste my time with it. With twin cams. Yeah its always good to keep the shitty chain and tensioners. Add some low lift cams it run great. If you have a TC B engine. Toss it in the lake. If you have a TC after 2003 before 2006. Get ready to put an Ultima crank in it. The TC 88 99-02 Ditch - oil pump, cam plate, cams, lifters Add -(fueling or S&S depending on budget) Oil pump and cam plate. Ditch the Fuelling Pop off for a Baisley Pop Off. Go with the added tension spring for the pop off if you run a cam bigger than 585. S&S, Jim's, make good lifters. Go gear drive. Chains have no place in any engine. Even V-8's should be running gear drives. Belts are a limitless joke. Zipper's can get you square on your needs. They do a good job reworking stock heads. Unless you are on a track with your bike. You won't need any more than Zippers has to offer. They port polish rework the combustion chambers and put in good Valves, Bee hive Springs, retainers and locks. Roller rockers and titanium(Or light weight) pushrods are a good addition. Do a lot of homework on pushrods. The very best way I know for pushrods. Get one adjustable rod. Use it to get measurements for each rod length needed. Have Titanium rods made to that spec. Focus your research on the rod tips. Some designs will work out and get loose. Maybe blow the engine.585 cams are about as far as you can go in a stock case. I am running 625 cams and had to cut metal out of the case for lobe clearance. Ignition run NKG iridium and try to index your plugs. Knuckle of the finger pointing towards the intake valve. Laymans terms. Rocker lockers help. Make sure to check end gap on your rockers. 0.03 - 0.013 is the limits. Add Bronze shims as needed. I checked mine I need to shim one. It is at 0.013 Nology Hotwires are nice because they bolt to your motor. Keeps then 50% thief proof. Since the TC 88 B likes to start vibrating itself apart around 6200 RPM. I felt that would keep a TC 88A engine from turning into a rotating grenade as a limit. Do not stroke the HD engine. It is already under square. Give it bore. It needs to speed up the work it can already do. Torque is how much work IE 100 Foot Pounds = in can lift 100 pounds per revolution. Horse power is how fast an engine can do work. Add horse power you speed up the work. I went to the 95. Now I am thinking I want a 4.125" bore for the 4" stroke. Instead of the 3.XXX whatever bore with a 4" stroke. Bore should always be a larger yield than stroke. Unless its a diesel or something I am not talking about here. Any increase over Thunder header exhaust is purely going to be so small of a gain. The extra money is just for maybe a better layup and looks. 1-5 horse power is useful. On the street its never going to be known. Its not worth a 1/10 of a second and you gain 6 alone from ditching just the chain drive. Not even upgrading cam profile. I am carbureted and could give a shit about injection. $100 to remap or I can buy a complete set of jets and metering rods. Injection is user friendly till it shits. Carbs can send a lot of power through and are easy to work on. So scrap every bit of chain and tensioners. If you have an 8 Ball. Invest in a way to sell it. Or ride it till they have it figured out. I bought my go fast parts 4 years after the engine came out. And after two generations of changes. Still making new upgrades. Still smoking the ever living dog shit out of 600's and a number of 1000's. I put Edelbrock performer rpm heads on mine. They work. Hope all this helped some.

@@DobermansRock yes, thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge. Honestly I couldn't tell if you're being sarcastic about keeping the chain drive. Because I myself prefer gear drive and think its more reliable. But unfortunately, all this gets tossed out the window because I indeed had a rookie moment and got me a shiny 8 ball. I am guessing that's what you're calling the new milwaukee 8. But still, I will use your info as a reference if I end up getting a twin cam. Thanks again

Or just ride the 8 Ball and keep your brain in the mix of what's being found. Do the scheduled maintenance and just ride to ride. After a few years on the track it will become something to play with. Knowing the parts will be solid after some torture. If you are confident in the parts out right now. Do all you can to ditch the chains. Yes I was being highly sarcastic about them. Its something in my own belief. Was forced upon by the noise end of the EPA regs. I don't trust Screaming Eagle anything. Don't ask why. Other than a lot of it. Is really not much of an upgrade for dollar spent. Its ok to feel nervous on an engine. I got my TC in 99 when they were new as well. Everyone said it was a Jap engine. Actually it was a Porsche Harley design. The EVO cracked cam cones. Add another cam and it takes that stress out. The stress is when you stack pushrods onto a single cam. At high RPM they want to straighten out. Harley's best air cooled engine has always been the sportster engine. 1 cam per lifter, per pushrod, per valve all on gears. Look for the "V-Twin tuner's handbook" by D. William Denish Or any book dealing with the core of building V-Twins for power. Get into the physics and such. Its a real mind bender. Back up. Stare for a second. Its a WWII fighter plane radial engine with cylinders missing. Until the push rod air cooled is gone. That's what powers our scoots. Who knows maybe the 8 Ball will be something big on the track and I will ask for your years of knee deep research. Till then keep the rubber down.

@@DobermansRock thanks once again for your great input. I plan on doing exactly that, just ride. Believe it or not, I will try and keep everything bone stock for a couple years and just ride to become a better rider. Also agree with you on the screaming eagle stuff. Screams to me about marketing and not much substance in performance. Not even going to get into performance per dollar.
