Project 2016 Indian Scout Sixty Part 7 (Bobber Belt Guard + Willie & Max Swing Arm Bag)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Finally figured out exactly how I am going to mount my Willie & Max Swing Arm Bag. Decided to use the new Scout Bobber upper belt guard (now an Indian accessory item) to give me a more solid mounting point.
Also fabricated a bottom bracket to keep the lower portion of the bag from ever touching the drive belt. In the video I go into how to adjust the drive belt on an Indian Scout. Installing the upper belt guard required loosening up the rear wheel.
Love the Willie & Max bag. Really finishes off the non-exhaust side of the Scout and gives it more visual interest. Also balances the look of the bike out while also giving me just a little storage on my Scout Sixty that would otherwise be setup for minimalist solo riding.
The Willie & Max bag is made in USA. I got mine from Amazon. (link below)

    Mike you've made some real nice mods on your 60. I mounted a swing arm bag to my Fury almost the same way and it never moved. I'm waiting for my Scout 60 to arrive this week, can't wait to get started on some mods, you know I'll have to , shall we say , borrow a few of your ideas they're just to good to pass up. Great job !!

    Yep, the manual also says that too. I did that while I was fiddling about getting the tension just right. For sure you have to check and re-check it several times. I don't try to get into the weeds too much with detail. I don't do DIY's, lots of people who have better videos out there for that. LOL ;-) At any rate I was too distracted by the offer of Bifana's and Beer from Melly! LOL Cheers! Miss you guys! Mike & Melly

    Great video on the swing-arm bag! I will be adding that to my Scout, but I'll probably let the dealer install the belt guard. The wheel realignment procedure, if not done correctly, could be a problem, a.k.a. the Harley Wobble, not a chance I want to take...

    Good planning on the bracket! But I'm not a fan of the theory that every single bolt you might want to remove is immediately available. That is naive. You can use 2" wide blue painters tape on the exhaust to prevent a wrench from scratching it. Of course, this works anywhere scratches are a concern. I use it all the time when I'm machining a customer's part and don't want scratches.

    with that bag, does the shock get in the way of putting stuff in it? Looks like the shock is sitting right on top, preventing bag flap from opening all the way. But great mounting system you made for it.

    Always a pleasure to watch your videos, Mike. Quick question...Your fly shield...Did you do have to alter the mounting system? I love the look, and realize that the protection will be minimal (hey it's a shield for your fly, right?) Thanks!

    The National Cycle Fly Screen mounts with no modification to it's brackets. I did originally move the factory turn signal mounts a little higher so the Fly Screen clamps were at the bottom, that way the angle of the screen looks better. The factory turn signal mounts are rubber and just slide up. In the end I ordered Memphis Shades turn signal relocation brackets so that the indicators were lower. IMHO they look better that way but it's not needed. I think there is an all black version of the Fly Screen now. Thanks for watching! Mike

    Hi mike. Burt's looking stellar! Swing arm bag was a good idea and does it justice 👍 I'm still desiring a bag of sorts for my black 60. How comfortable is that 1920 solo seat really? I'm seriously considering it but was scared it would be a 400 dollar mistake due to lack of softness . Does it's contoured shape help with comfort any? Also is the Bassani road rage 2 into 1 sound worth the money? I was thinking on the Hacker Mayhem, or the Vance Hines Grenades, maybe even Dirty Bird concepts 🤔 When I get mine close to presentable I'll send you some pics . Yours is definitely a gem and a pleasure to see Mike ! "Cheers mate ...

    Exhaust tone is a personal preference. I love my Bassani 2 into 1 but I got it because it makes extremely good power. The exhaust note is a side benefit. The Dirty Bird system is crazy loud! I love my 1920 solo seat. Fits my butt just fine! LOL. For the max comfort I think the Mustang seat is one of the better ones out there. You should drop by the Indian dealer to see if they have a 1920's solo seat mounted on a bike you can check out. The contour fits me much better and even though it's not as padded as the original seat I find it comfy. I have ridden all day with it on our crap roads in the Detroit USA area and haven't had any issues. After riding all day any saddle will make you sore IMO. Thanks for watching! Cheers! Mike

    Brilliant mod, I have a few questions. How long is that spacer and what are the measurements of the bracket or are you selling it as a kit cause I will buy one. Thank you.

  • @RenchRanch

    @RenchRanch

    6 жыл бұрын

    The length of the bracket was solely based on my highly calibrated eyeball. LOL For me I held up the bag and just marked my aluminum bar stock at the front hole on the bag. I don't remember the spacer per say. What I did was take the lower belt guard and the original bolts with me along with the bar stock (rough cut) to my local hardware store. I just camped out in the faster isle at Ace Hardware until I had noodled out just the right combo of bolts, washers and the spacer. The spacer is probably close to 1/2" but I have a bunch of washers there also. I also cut down the bolts with my Dremel so they were exactly the right length. No kit LOL. I barely have time to ride my bike as it is let alone start making parts! LMAO! Thanks for watching. Mike

    Sir, disregard my previous question. I just walked out and checked my Bobber and the lower rear Allen "ain't" going no where until you move the tire back. Forgive my inquiry.

  • @RenchRanch

    @RenchRanch

    6 жыл бұрын

    Even if the rear belt pulley wasn't in the way, to use an extension from the other side would probably require a swivel. The rear disc gets in the way of a straight shot across. The belt pulley is in the way of removing those 2 allen bolts on the drive side. So you either have to loosen the wheel or just remove it. In reality the video is actually longer than it would take to do the job. Just takes time to move the camera and explain stuff as I go. Thanks for watching, much appreciated! Mike

    Now that you've had the swing-arm bag on the bike for (presumably) 12 months or so, can I ask if you're seeing any signs of wear anywhere on the bag? Particularly the upper flap surface, which looks like it might be in constant contact with the suspension coil? Any other lessons learned from mountaing that particular accessory?

  • @RenchRanch

    @RenchRanch

    I haven't had any issues. Works great. I am not really seeing any wear from the shock. I also don't overload the swing arm bag. I keep most of the bulky stuff in my detachable saddle bags. There's a video of that on my channel. Thanks for watching! The main lesson learned is that I ended up cutting off the ty-wraps and using velcro straps instead. Much better solution and I can easily remove the bag for washing the bike. Cheers! Mike

    I have my swing arm bag mounted up high enough that I can still get the toe of my boot onto the side stand to flick it out. It works for me. For sure it's not going to work for everyone. It all depends on how the bag is mounted and who made it. There are a bunch of companies that make these and the dimensions can vary. For sure it's a pain to get it right. My vids are just a walk along on what I have done. I don't really try to do the DIY thing. But for sure even without the swing arm bag, the Scout's side-stand isn't the easiest to deploy because of it's mid-mounted location. I have been thinking about making some type of additional bracket to give me something to easily hook my toe on. My wife's 2008 Triumph Speedmaster has something similar cast into the side-stand that makes it a lot easier to kick out. Something to noodle out. I know the few times Melly jumped on my Scout (before the swing arm bag) she didn't like how far back the side-stand was. Thanks for watching, much appreciated! Mike

    Just check the underside of you bike before you lift it. It took me a while to find the sweet spot. I tended to want to move the lift too far forward. The pad towards the front should just about be under the "Indian Head" lower cover and the pad towards the rear needs to be just under the kick stand mount. If you feel / look under you will see the engine is rather flat and extends almost back to the rectifier / regulator bracket. The Harbor Freight lift fits the Scout just fine. Thanks for watching!
