Project 098 | Making a velocity stacks for cafe racer

Ғылым және технология

A relatively easy construction is what we have made for this week compared to the rest that we have uploaded on our channel. In favour of a friend of us we made two velocity staks.

Love the variety of projects, so glad to see a mix of depths. Videoing projects takes more planning for the shot sequences, with your edits in-mind as well. Even a short video can take a day or three, so I can imagine your longer works take quite a bit of time and effort. Your edits, showing one piece, then quick slices of the "then we did two more" and highlights of the trickier technical work, are *golden*. I so enjoy what's in front and behind the camera that I have to comment in thanks and appreciation. The project selections are all something I'd like and I can imagine how much fun that bike is.

A tip for dividing into 3 on the lathe (for the tapping & drilling ) is to use a suitable length of rod between the lathe bed and the side of a jaw on the chuck... 3 jaws = 3 divisions !! Works great & saves the time of setting up the dividing head .... 😎👍☘

Very nice work! One thing I want to say: it's nice that you get the outside of the velocity stack shiny, but do not polish the inside. It doesn't have to be rough, the ideal is something simular to glass marble blaster finish. If the inside is shiny as well, gas might form droplets and it is not good. Altought the velocity stack is before carburetor, it is good practise to keep it somewhat rough.

Wayne and Thomas you guys are both right, but the velocity stack doesn't need to be facing forward? For more air to push through the velocity stack to the engine, this method works best in EFI motors , i havent see it before facing backwards... Please correct me if i am wrong, id love to learn some things.

And the best: no cleaning hands 10 times a day! For you there are these black gloves for hairdressers when the dye perfekt. They fit like skin and no sweat and they are cheap. i use them all the time when i am painting or work with epoxy.

If you want to run stacks, trash the Bings get a set of "race" carbs. Mikunis or Delortos. There are complete drop in kits for that motor/bike. Kits can be optioned with velocity stacks with proper FOD screens that don't impede air flow like a piece of filter shoved down in the carb openings.

The fact that they are pointing backwards will actually cause a negative pressure area to be formed behind the stack, causing it to suck the air out of the carb, COMPLETELY negating any volumetric flow benefit of having a velocity stack design, and in fact impeding air flow performance into the motor

Those look great but cutting the filter area down by 90% will create too much of a restriction at high rpms and the engine will run rich and lose power. You need to use a more porous filter to maintain the peak power of the engine but that will reduce the engine life.

If you switch from the original airbox to a pod filter you will get more air and run lean. I would equate these much more to pod filters than the default airbox regarding airflow, but it's hard to say for sure without measuring the exhaust or running the bike more. Some kinda rejetting is surely needed.
