Prohibition: Banning alcohol was a bad idea... - Rod Phillips
Dig into the Prohibition era in the United States, when the government banned the manufacture, sale, and transport of alcohol.
--
On January 17, 1920, less than one hour after spirits had become illegal throughout the United States, armed men robbed a Chicago freight train and made off with thousands of dollars worth of whiskey. It was a first taste of the unintended consequences of Prohibition. So what exactly was Prohibition, and why did it happen? Rod Phillips investigates this chapter of American history.

Human minds are primed to do the easiest thing. So if you can't drink alcohol on the way home from work then your addiction will most likely die.

It's amazing how much of this resonates with cannabis prohibition worldwide. It's not the drug that's the issue, it's how we're controlling it in society. If we learnt anything from alcohol prohibition it's that banning doesn't work, it just creates more problems. Control, regulation and education of a legal market is the safest way forward at the moment.

That's why upbringing and education is one of the single most important things in a society. When you spoil children and continue spoiling adults you get huge problems. You can't make people function by setting up walls, you make people function by making them into good people from the beginning. However, the problems of how to upbring people is a huge challenge. Asian countries for example have clear strengths in some fields like diligence but huge weaknesses in others.

I'm telling you, this was the most ridiculous law ever. I'm a drinker by the way. I think if husbands (at the time of course) shared whiskey with thier wives back then, rather than heading to the bar after work ( work is hard, I've been working since 16, I'm 45) rather than leaving them home with 6 to 8 kids on thier own, prohibition never would have happened, and neither would have all the crime that followed. Of course I say this, knowing I drink more than my husband, and if it's open in my hand first it's mine🤣 but seriously, I'd rather work a twelve hour day ( and I've worked plenty of them) than be sober at home from dawn till dusk, dealing with a nightmare. Love my children more than my own life, never drank when they were young, but I had 2 and a full time job. Not so easy being at home all day, breaking up fights, trying to figure out meals, handwashing laundry, dealing with everything at home, every day, all the time, without even a bud light? Nah
@kantovagrant3194

@@mistyhammond753 Ridiculous? Alcohol is the most dangerous drug practically in existence. It's the most addictive drug known to man, in which excessive alcoholic consumption could cause liver failure, kidney failure, heart failure and respiratory failure. If our blood has more than 20% alcoholic content, then we can be sent into toxic shock. For those reasons alone it should be outlawed.
