    I’m a good driver with a very small car but this plug in beeps every time I go over a railroad track - every single time no matter how slow I drive over the tracks. I’m not sure if it thinks I’m coming to a ‘jerky’ stop but as the car shakes when traveling over the tracks it beeps. Railroad tracks are common where I live so this is a warning for others who live in these types of areas. I have been driving for over 40 years and did not have this issue with Liberty, Nationwide or State Farm plugs. I will not be renewing with them.

    I did it with Safeco in 2013.(they ignored a speeding ticket I had with this 3 month program) Took a roadtrip to from WA to AZ. Maintained 100mph in Nevada for 30 min stretches, drove through the night into the A.M. went back to WA and went from being in the green to touching the RED! Idk why... Then I went on a two month deployment with the Navy when i came back I was pegged out green and got my discounts!

    This raised my rates for me. I have a clean driving record since 2003. You have to basically come to a rolling stop to not get a hard break. You can accelerate at a reasonable rate or get dinged for fast acceleration. I drove 80 miles round trip to Amazon warehouse so I did log some miles a week. But this raised my rate $45/month after use.

    After 6 months of putting up with this annoying device, and changing my driving habits in an unsafe manner to conform to this device's quirks and not get penalized, I finally got my results. I managed to get and keep an "A" grade, which is perfect. They kept encouraging me to keep going and that I was in line for savings, if I maintained this grade. I only averaged 12 miles driving a week, and I was sure when they realized this, they would charge me accordingly. My original bill was $230 dollars for 6 months. I only have liability insurance on a 20 year old car that I almost never drive. My new bill after this perfect driving record that they witnessed through their device is $257. An increase of $27, how is this great savings as they continually promised? I really would like someone from Progressive to explain this one! Who thinks I was treated fairly? They offer no explanations, just this renewal bill with an increase.

  • @ofcbob6391

    I think we all need to realize that it is quite normal to expect a price increase every time you renew your car insurance...due to inflation and the cost to repair anything on cars and all the lawsuits because everyone has whiplash in any bump-in-the-rear accident. Maybe with Progressive's snapshot and really good driving, the discount will offset the usual increases.

    I've had one for almost 6 months, and I can't wait to get this monkey off my back! I'm retired and barely drive, so I needed to try this because I was tired of paying high insurance costs to have my car sit in the driveway most of the time. I am only driving about 12 miles a week, and some weeks, it's almost 0. The biggest complaint is the same one everyone has, the hard brakes. Not one that I have had has been legitimate. Twice it hit me for 2 hard brakes for only one stop. I have had to run yellow lights, which I never did before, and every intersection with a stoplight is like playing a video game and I actually have to drive less safe to concentrate on not getting the dreaded beep! What they call a hard brake is a normal part of driving. It means you didn't hit something, or break a law by not stopping for a light. An actual hard brake, where you slam on the brakes is what they should count. Several times, I slowly applied the brake for 5-6 car lengths, and when I finally stopped, it still beeped. This is where they got this wrong, this is not unsafe driving because you stop the car, especially to avoid an accident! I want to get this thing out of my car before it causes me to have an accident, which I haven't had in over 50 years of driving! If I knew about this beforehand, I would not have used this device!

    I agree!!! This is so frustrating that I am thinking about leaving the program just because of the "hard" brakes. I stop on red and I get a beep. I ease my way to breaking and it still beeps. This beeping is driving me nuts!

  • @Nocgirl
    @Nocgirl2 жыл бұрын

    Update on this snapshot- I absolutely hate it. It takes 2-3 weeks to get used too because its very sensitive and beeps all the time. It takes a long time to change driving habits. I am a very good driver I have not had a ticket in 10 years. My first 45 days is a C-. I find myself making more dangerous driving decisions to avoid the beep. First of all some of the beeps are necessary to avoid a collision. When people pull out in front of me I have to do a hard brake. Also I almost always stop at yellow lights because I dont want to risk running a red one .However if this decision is made at the last second it often involves a hard brake so it beeps. So now I am inclined to just run the light instead of attempting to stop. It's almost impossible to go all week without 1-2 hard brakes because other people drive like crap. I posted on a large FB group about this and almost every person said they hated the snapshot and it resulted in a premium increase so if they just want to monitor me so they can raise my rates I am out.

    Omg this is my same exact experience. Funny thing, after the first month I got was less beeps. While I like to believe I got better, part of me thinks it's designed to beep a lot in the beginning and later beep less as a way to potentially earn the company more money. But I'm in the same boat as you. I drive a prius so I hardly ever speed or accelerate fast. I have become confident at running yellow lights when I KNOW I COULD STOP but I knew the device would beep. Progressive be like: "drive safe but consider making traffic violations!" I also have a C- and despite my improvements, I haven't seen it change. If my rate goes up I'm swapping providers. These devices are so bad and promote illegal and unsafe acts. I've never gotten into a wreck but this thing might get me in one. I also haven't had a ticket in a while but this device might makes me get one. Instead, there should be a thing where if you take driving class as a refresher or Defensive Driving, then you should get a really good discount for every few years that you do it. That is how you make and promote good driving. Not by using a device that beeps every time you brake. I usually stop really smoothly but I often start hard and end in a smooth stop vice slamming on the brakes and sending people flying. I never claimed to be a good driver, but this device has certainly taught me new braking methods, which I love, but dear God I might as well get a ticket or caise a wreck so I don't have to get a penalty. Screw this device.

The device they give you is super sensitive to braking and would constantly beep at me. In regards to the present time, I recently I tried getting a quote from progressive. They gave me a quote but then at the checkout I got a message saying something along the lines of "we checked your background with one of our affiliates and found out you are suppose to be charged more for your insurance" Really? This was the last straw for me. Ended up just going with Gieco and didn't have to deal with that kind of drama. Curious if anyone else had to deal with this annoyance by them.

    I have never seen an app monitor the driving habits as bad as the Progressive Snapshot app. Ex: I placed and pressed my phone in the cup holder "tightly". What I've noticed is that it is recording you, as the driver with "phone use" during driving" when I actually drove my vehicle with Google map, or listening to KZread in the background. Unlike like the apps from Geico or Liberty Mutual which did not do this. I am a new insured with Progressive who is trying to maintain my good driving habits through this app and hopefully they won't increase my premium when I renew my policy. I have reported this issues to Progressive twice but they didn't do anything to fix it. My car us equipped with hands free for both incomg and outgoing calls.

For the hard brakes you need to slow down and coast into your brake like your doing a rolling stop at a stop sign and then hit the brake to complete the stop. Then for fast acceleration that means like from a stop how hard are you hitting the gas. So dont jam the gas from a red light and just let it take a few seconds to get started going. I used to drive limousine and the name of that is smoooooooth. No matter what's going on around me, I had to be as smooth as possible. In case my client was drinking a beverage, I needed to make sure I didn't cause them to spill it or choke on it. The only concern are red lights, not yellow. As long as the front axle crosses the line prior to light turning red, you are in the clear. Shouldn't be breaking that hard to begin with on a yellow, smh. Also, if you start paying attention to the crosswalk signs and the countdowns, you'll know when the lights are about to change. This is how a chauffeur keeps the ride so smooth, because we literally pay attention to every detail along the way. The only thing to possibly cause us to break harder are people breaking too hard ahead of us. I know I can pass this thing. The 2 things I don't like is having my gps tracked and it makes my personal travel like work which will make me not even want to drive if I don't have to, which I'm already kind of like that to begin with so this just took all personal leisurely enjoyment and removed it all completely until this is over. Progressive and all these insurance companies need to do a re-think because I don't appreciate having myself lumped in with a bunch of novice drivers when I hold a class A cdl with an absolutely pristine record and I've operated all sorts of buses, motor coach etc. It's a disrespectful slap in my face to charge more for not having insurance for a spell because I didn't have a personal vehicle for a spell. If I go places with people, nearly everyone always wants me to drive because of my skill level and they literally feel safe enough to sleep without an ounce of worry. I have better than 20/20 vision and notice break lights going on many cars ahead, I even look through vehicles ahead to see these, so I can adjust to these situations. I'm just over bs altogether and want to see if there's a way to create a company only for people like myself who never have accidents. Only things really ever happened, my vehicle was parked, and I was not in it. A truck tried to park next to it and sliced it open like a can opener. The restaurant I was at caught it on camera, thankfully, because the people left and probably wouldn't have paid without the evidence. I'm going to install a camera system for that reason. I don't do anything to anyone at all ever. I even prevent situations from happening because I'm trained to do exactly that, drive for myself and for others. 1,000s of other drivers would have an at fault accident running into me if I wasn't so eloquently skilled. This should earn me the least expensive insurance in the entire country but no. I feel scammed and ripped off even by Progressive. It's only 6 months of being in jail so will have to do, but I'll definitely be looking for a cheaper option or to start a company because I'm over this level nonsense. I have 100s of people co-workers, bosses, and clients who rave on about my skill level. I even have people skills and handled the most challenging vip clients often better than the bosses. They'd put me on gigs with these clients so they wouldn't have to handle them or risk losing their business. I am the ultimate at diffusing upset clients. Had a passenger who was so upset he'd yelled at his company, the destination manager, the boss of the limo company and several others. They patched his call directly to me and after he finished yelling some more, I asked him one question which solved the entire issue and he then Apologized for yelling at me and asked why no one else thought to ask the question I'd asked. In under a minute I got an irate passenger to completely calm down. He had gotten off on the wrong floor of customs inside the Miami Airport and I determined this with my question. He was supposed to follow the ramp to the bottom level inside customs and not exit customs at any other exit. He exited too soon for passengers who were making connecting domestic flights and not for those whom Miami was their final destination. I stayed on the phone with him and he was so sorry he yelled at everyone but especially me. He then called everyone back and told them how I brilliantly determined where he was and that everyone needed to learn from me immediately and he highly recommended this happen immediately. He said he'd spoken to minimally 7 different people over the course of 40 minutes to an hour prior to me and I solved the issue in under a minute. I politely explained the protocol and that these instructions should be explained to every client arriving in Miami through terminal D customs, by everyone involved. Anyway, I'm top notch and I cover everyone else's behinds so I should be paying a fraction of what I am. I find it infuriating to say the least. I can brake at a traffic light that I glide to a stop where there's zero jolting. Most people can't even pinpoint when I actually come to a complete stop because of how flawlessly smooth it I am. Of course it's easy easy to do in the limos and people's private Mercedes etc, it all depends on the vehicle, but I'm one of the most skilled in the entire industry. I've moved on to other things and now pregnant and only want to drive when I must for medical appointments and in case of emergency etc. Other than that, the vehicles going to sit more than getting driven, the next 3 months. Having twins so not going to want to drive more than I must when they're born either. Just hope this device and plan doesn't misjudge my lack of driving or will be even more infuriated.

    Lmao my insurance went up $400 bcuz of this stupid app. And guess why? Bcuz apparently I’m “hard braking” when I’m actually not. Idk of it has to be on low signal areas or maybe my phone is defective.

    So I decided to try snapshot. Started in August 2022 and my first month I learned a lot about myself. I always thought I was pretty ok at braking, but I learned that I may have a heavy foot. That said my first month I earned a C-, this is mostly due to "hard breaking". Since I've gotten my score I have improved but curently see no change in my score. That said, I feel as though the device is EXTREMELY sensitive and, contrary to what they want you to believe, it would cause you to conduct unsafe manues and make unsafe decisions in order to attempt to earn a better score. Another thing to note is that there is no way to find out what your new rate may be based on your current score. With that, if anyone ended up with a C- or lower I would love to know what your rate increase was. My current rate (pre snap shot) is about $750/6mo. I was decided to use the plug in device but now feel I should have opted to try the app. The reason I didn't use the app version was due to my use of Google maps on my phone and listening to podcasts on KZread on my way to work (my phone is "asleep" so I certainly don't watch videos while driving) I was also concerned that making calls via Bluetooth would penalize me. All that said, im due to renew in March when I should learn the results of this awful device. With that, depending on the result I may look into finding a new insurance company if my rate increases a lot. My final thoughts on this product is that it helps you learn a lot about where you perform poorly (in my case braking slowly and "softly") but it doesn't actively reward you for improving or even notify you that you are doing better. I feel that since I have had this device, I have improved my braking habits but I've also made questionable decisions in hopes to not hear that beep. My hope is that progressive takes note of continuous improvement. Something I wish to see changed about the program: 1) actively alert the driver that they have improved or what areas to work on. 2) tell the driver how much their rate may increase based on current habits. 3) change the sensitivity. I personally don't believe it should take a person a long time to stop (I've read the device is rated to beep if you stop faster than 7 sec or something and I've read that people you drive manual get penalized when shifting gears) sure you must stop in a safe manner but I shine they should consider sudden pressure applied (slamming on brakes vice gradual increase in brake). Reguarding my number 3, I usual apply a steady increase in pressure and then let off as needed, but I have learned to slow way down before coming to a hill or moving to the turn lane and I have gotten better at using a consistent pressure which takes me 10+ seconds to stop. With that, I apologize to any drivers that I may have irritated with my developing braking skills and how much I impede them as I slow way down. In conclusion, I hate this thing and feel it makes unsafe situations and results in impeding others travel it also sucks for manual drivers. But, I have learned about my bad habits and have slowly been improving as I train myself in what works best to not hear that beep.
