"Don't reinvent the wheel" is one. I talk to people who only use game engines to make games. When I tell them that you can make games without one, they always find a way to call me an idiot in an indirect way. :) :) :)

Agreed. Engines are great but sometimes too much. I was looking for ways to replay the last x seconds of video output in Unreal and all they have is a system which reverses and recreates all events in the system. Like, dude, can I not just get access to the framebuffer? There are cases for diy.

you could consider creating courses for udemy, I would buy them.
