Thanks a lot ! In particular now I've understood the edge scan that is explained bad in the manual, it was sufficient to say that there are additional channels arranged by couples xxA - xxB where A is the lower limit and B the upper limit, xx is the program number automatically associated in scan mode with PROG-XX

Nice video, greetings from Russia I own this scanner device since 2013, figured out how to use the memory banks from the manual, programmed my scan modes through CS-R6 software and the USB cable This way of recording you have shown is gonna be really useful (gettin' my Sony ICD-PX333 tomorrow, already own the jacks cable, btw it works with the computer blue socket for aux audio). Previously I just used a recorder in my Android tablet lying close to the R6 native speaker with the volume turned low. (The results were, uh, not so great) Sorry for my English if it's bad

I put a link in the description of the model recorder I use. I turned on the VOX function (check the manual on how to do this). The cables in the video are from RadioShack.

I have this scanner but find the manual quite complicated to understand. I managed to get my local airport frequencies into the machine, but that was well over a year ago. I now want to add marine frequencies as I live near the coast, but have forgotten how I did it before. Your video is quite detailed but is still not that easy to understand for somebody without any knowledge of radios etc .. what's a bank scan, what's an edge scan . I would like to set it so it scans through a group of about 6 marine frequencies and that's all. If I could have another group of frequencies for the airport that would be good too. No doubt I can add other things at a later date, when I know how to set up 'a group'

I have a ICOM R-10 with Reaction Tune and I use with a Opto Scout frequency counter, the Scout scans superfast and Automatically tunes the ICOM . the R-10 has a AMWS mode that Automatically writes into memory anything the Scout finds. I can then later chose to save or delete items in the Bank I set for AMWS.

Michel Jordan - for the most part Airshow frequencies are published in the united states. you can check the Archives at Monitoring Times and RadioReference com. both are excellent resources. I also use a Opto Scout frequency counter to detect any transmitters in the near field. I have always found the Showboss using a Discrete AM frequency this way. as well as Monitoring the security, the Coast Guard (fleetweek) and workers of the Airshow as the often Give out the Showboss frequency over the Air as well as the Frequency to contact the Pilots.

Thanks for posting! Is the memory writing procedures of the R6 the same as the R5? Just taking an overlook of your video gave me this impression. If so, this is good news. I have problems trying to understand how to write memories, program channels and stuff on my IC-R5. Currently, I am using a Tecsun PL-660 to listen to air band because I found memory writing much more intuitive, but I know my R5 has better reception, image and spurious rejection, not to mention a much smaller size.

I assume this isn't any good for trunked or phase II scanning. That it's not a digital scanner

No, it's a receiver only. You can buy pilot radios that transmit but you may need a license for that if it's handheld. Most radio licenses are bound to the aircraft they are installed in, using one outside the aircraft has different regulations.

I haven't been able to do it with this model. The more expensive models have those additional features, however, this one lacks the bells and whistles.

Yes you can: 1. Press func and band buttons repeatedly 2. Stop pressing you see 'M NAME' on the display How to rename the freq from memory: 1. Choose it 2. Hold the skip button 3. Hold the mode button, rotate the valcoder until you see 'M NAME' 4. For example you have the freq named 'BOB'. In order to rename it, hold the func button and rotate the valcoder (the round thing) to choose the letter you desire 5. To move to the next letter, rotate the round thing while NOT holding the func button 6. Save your result by holding the skip button. Wait for the BE BEEP signal. Congrats now your freq has the name you have chosen
