Program addresses patients' medical as well as mental and emotional issues

What would it be like to have a psychologist available at your doctor's office? Upstate and other health organizations are integrating primary medical care and behavioral health care. Upstate psychologist Brian Rieger explains how this helps both patients and medical providers, and notes how often a mental component is involved in a medical matter. He’s the director of the Integrated Behavioral Health Care Program at Upstate and an assistant professor in the department of psychiatry.
“The Informed Patient” is a podcast that covers health, science and medicine, featuring experts from Central New York’s only academic medical center. Upstate Medical University has four colleges (Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions and Graduate Studies); a robust research enterprise; and an extensive clinical health care system that extends way beyond Syracuse.
